Looks like a total dive — because it is! However, this has to be one of the best places in LA for Seafood Gumbo! Not the best of settings, seems a bit grungy, but wow is the gumbo ever amazing! 1 star for the facility and 5 stars for the gumbo.

HUGEPORTIONS. A dive but we were here for food and weren’t buying the place. You can pick up prepared food or purchase fresh by the #. Couldn’t finish the $ 1015 jumbo shrimp with Cajun fries, coleslaw(or potato or green salad). Hubby had $ 1012″ long fresh catfish Po’boy. Looked like a service station previously but it works.

As with all other Unilocalers I was also skeptical of the outside. But I trusted the reviews glad I did. Cons: I will say first of all do NOT order corn dogs. I know, I know, not a place to order corn dogs but I had two kids with me and that’s what they wanted so I agreed. Horrid little things, the corn dogs not thThey were almost black. Neither child could even get a bite they were so hard. I tried to cut them up and the meat inside was greenish. Ew. We tossed those and the kids ate fries Pros: Everything else. Hubby and I both had the Shrimp platter. It was beautiful and lots of food. We seriously could have split one plate and we are big eaters. The shrimp were hot, fat and salty. Perfect. Nice light batter. The fries were fries. But good and fresh. Cole slaw was good with a bit of tangy. Potato salad was good but hubby was too excited about the shrimp. The buttered rolls were surprisingly yummy. I could have eaten a few of those but I had to share with my kids as they lunch was already in the trash. We got a large gumbo on advice of fellow Unilocalers to take home and eat tomorrow. I was say that I am particularly picky about my gumbo. I had some once as a child that I have never been able to duplicate or find again. It seems everywhere I go they are brown flavored water. This however was something special. It had the flavor and texture I have been searching for. It is thick but not overly so. Full of sausage, shrimp and I think chicken. I decided to taste it even though I was already stuffed. It was so amazing. I saw what I thought was a crab claw and sure enough I pulled out a half a crab. Oh how awesome. I sat and picked that thing apart. Nice surprise. I made hubby go back in and get another 32 oz container. I would have purchased a whole stock pot of it had hubby not given me the eye. Hubby also got a meat pie and he really liked it. So all of that to say DON’T get the corn dogs, get shrimp and gumbo. Gets lots of gumbo.

Great grab and go meal. To-go containers were stuffed full. Shrimp po-boy was loaded up with shrimp and hard to hold. Really enjoyable meal. Gumbo was packed nicely with rice and some crackers. All that was a little hot sauce – I should have added some at the restaurant before I left. It also has a nicely attached fish market that looked well stocked. Judging by the number of patrons, this place is known for its fish.

Amazing. Don’t let the cover fool you, the book is delicious! Awesome gumbo; half a crab sitting in the small gumbo, stacked with sausage, was a big delight to my fam. I got the softshell poboy and it was giant and delicious. Their french bread is also way banging.

I’m a local, born and raised in Slidell and this is hands down the BEST place for crawfish; They are always hot and seasoned to perfection. The shrimp sandwiches and poboys are the best in town. They toast the sandwich bun with butter and the shrimp are amazingly crisp and keep you craving more.

Absolutely great food! Don’t let the size or appearance of this restaurant fool you. The fried shrimp poor boy, boiled shrimp and boiled crawfish are great! As great as everything else was, the gumbo was«off the chart» good. I would definitely recommend eating here! And if I lived in the area, I would be a regular.

Best Po’boy that I’ve ever had. Be prepared though, those red beans and rice will do things to your body…

I got 5lbs crawfish && a 12 inch poboy both hot and fresh! Loved how they give/weigh crawfish, other places it’s nothing but water or they give me mainly heads definitely coming back here.

It’s about 2 miles off I10, decided to stop by on my way back to the ATL from New Orleans. The poboys are huge. I had the shrimp one. Only ate half of it there and was full, the other half five hours later. I had the gumbo to, pretty good tasting. Ended up buying things out of the freezer, shrimp gumbo crabs.

This is a small mom and pop shop. The crawfish were bold and flavorful, they also have po boys, oysters and many other menu items. If you haven’t been here before there is a small dining area with about 3 tables and picnic tables out front. $ 3.99 per lb for boiled crawfish $ 2.99 for live. The shrimp was very tasty and flavorful. They do have royal reds but you have to buy them raw for cooking at home. I will be back for sure when I am back this way to try out the other menu items. The staff were very down to earth and friendly. Before I sat at one of the three tables the guy behind the counter came to spray and clean my already clean table. I would have felt very comfortable at the table anyway but I appreciate his diligence.

Outstanding food and service. Live in Arkansas but come to area several times a year for food. This place is now in my top 5. If you like small, authentic spots, this place will impress

We ordered the sea food platter. Turned out a humongous portion of fish, shrimp oyester and crab. Was enough for two of us. Great prices, friendly owner behind the counter.

Excellent service and low prices. However very low quality seafood. Boiled shrimp was seasoned oddly. Poboy was overstuffed and piping hot. However, the oysters were old, the shrimp had a lot of Tripoly, and they were fried in old grease. I won’t be back. Sorry.

How to eat in Louisiana. Can’t beat the products of on-site owners. Fast, well priced and good. We need to come back and try something from the prepared food line.

Overstuffed po-boys just as advertised. This was a great place to stop on our drive into New Orleans. I had the footlong shrimp and it was fantastic. My vegetarian wife had the French fry po-boy and said it was very good. My daughter got the large cup of red beans and rice and they were some of the best I’ve had. As much as I loved the shrimp po-boy, I wish I would have brought the oyster. I might try to plan our trip home with the oyster. I’d also like to buy more red beans and pick up some of the gumbo to shove in our cooler and enjoy back in Tennesee. Update-we came back four days later, on our way out of town, and fantastic again. I had the oyster po-boy this time. I bought the large seafood gumbo for the cooler and can’t wait to dig in this weekend.

Agreed with everyone else. This place is a true mom and pop shop. Affordable and delicious! We had the seafood gumbo, crawfish, corn, and shrimp po boy. They were ALL tasty! The owner is super sweet too! Go go go!

Best meal out of roughly dozen restaurants I have visited in the New Orleans area over the past couple years. Combination seafood market and restaurant, the quality of the seafood really shows. Seems like a friendly family operation. Seafood gumbo is the best gumbo I have had in the LA hands down. Medium(16oz) is a large bowl anywhere else and is a meal on itself. Not being content to try just one thing I got the soft shell crab on a bun. It is one large crab on a bun, freshly fried and super tasty. Best food bargain in the New Orleans area and possibly worth the drive to Slidell though I combined it with a swamp tour…
