Yay! I’m a fan. Sum’s is a great order in/take out Chinese food place. It’s not glitzy or fancy, but they give lots of yummy food for a great price.

Sums has a very extensive menu I love the variety. This time around I had the Mongolian beef. Taste was great just enough spicy not to take over the flavor. And good portion size for the money. Highly recommend

I love this place. The food is really good and the specials are nicely priced they fill up the food not like some places that give you very small amount. Here they put a good portion and the cashiers are very nice. For takeout Chinese food this is my favorite place to go. :)

Horrible! Kept telling them«No MSG. I’m allergic.» The food was loaded with it. Had to go to the hospital. I asked for«black bean garlic sauce» and a large order. What they gave me was some brown sauce — NO black beans or garlic & three quarters of a large container. The food was bad — tasteless. They did NOT follow instructions. Total waste of food and money. Spend your money at a good restaurant — not at this dump.

Very simple restaurant, not alot of seating, and no public restroom, but good food. The food is consistent and inexpensive. I just moved to Skokie and this is my new restaurant.

Fantastic. We walked in, placed an order, sat down. After a while the food was ready. Place was steady busy. Took it home, was delicious. They even added extra egg rolls due to the wait, and honestly the wait wasn’t bad at all.

I love Sum’s for their large portions and low prices, but their delivery service is crap. Our office ordered three dinner specials at 3:30pm, and we received it at about 5:20pm. We expect our orders to take about 30 to 45 minutes for cooking and delivery, but anything over an hour is bad news(especially because I make the commute from Sum’s in 10 minutes). We may be the last on the list of deliveries, but dang, they can do better. We’ll stick to local pickup, and pay the intern the $ 15 tip to make the round trip. Outside of delivery, their food is great. It is very typical Chinese takeout with big portions and low prices. Check them out.

I had lunch here and ordered the chicken egg foo young which came with 2 patties in gravy along with a heaping serving of chicken fried rice and an egg roll and can of pop for just $ 5.75. The egg foo young was really good along with the gravy which had a decent flavor and not overly greasy. The eggroll was actually the standout and not the requisite eggroll that sat for hours under a heat lamp. It too was flavorful, crisp, and had a moist and delicious filling of cabbage and meat. The chicken fried rice was ok but certainly above par with other take out joints. Service was friendly and prompt. To «Sum» it up: I’d definitely order from here again!

No big on Chinese fm food but this small place has prb some of the best. 8 yrs ago this place had the best fried rice ever, since then I heard they got a new chef and the food hasn’t been the same. But I heard the chef returned and the quality n consistency of the food is back again! This place actually makes their food«spicy» when u ask and its not white people friendly«spicy» it’s legit! Prices are great and portions are pretty large. My Chinese food go to.

We’ve been ordering from Sum’s for close to 10 years, and during that time it’s changed hands several times, with the quality varying dramatically from very good to so bad we just wrote them off for a while. As of this writing they’ve got some pretty good people running it and the food is good, standard carry-out fare with occasional flashes of brilliance. It still seems to depend on who’s manning the woks, but their portions are huge, their service fast, and the Dinner for Two will easily feed 4 – 6 for about $ 25. You’re probably not going to swoon in gustatory ecstasy with Sum’s, but they do the job. It’s good to have them back.

For a take-out restaurant, I love this place. The food is always fresh, and the portions quite large. Great crab rangoon! Is it the best Chinese ever? Of course not. But if you want delicious, fresh food at a great price, then look no further. Moo Goo Gai Pan is my favorite.

This chinese food was ok. I ordered beef fried rice and beef egg foo young. The rice didn’t have mixed veggies in it, which I liked. The beef was tender. The egg foo youngs gravy was good, just couldve been a little thicker and fried a little darker for my taste. It wasn’t bad. Typical chinese fast food.

Sum’s is a typical storefront chop suey joint. They have a surprisingly extensive menu and some very reasonable lunch specials. We tried the Mongolian Beef, Kang Pao Chicken and the Beef Lo Mein. The lunch specials are huge. They came with soup and an egg roll as well. The soups were not very good, but the egg rolls were decent enough and the entrees were good enough for a cheap lunch. They are located across the street from the Sara Lee Outlet Store. When I go back to SLOS, I would certainly consider picking up lunch again. I literally made 3 meals out of one $ 5 lunch. Can’t beat that!!! I also like that the kitchen is open. I watched my food being prepared. Kind of a fun free floor show!

Really, five stars, people? Do you guys TASTE what you’re eating, or do you simply put the fork in your mouth and after that it’s all good? We decided to try Sum’s after we were bored with out usual Chinese places. We ordered two items, the Seasame Chicken and the General’s Chicken. The Seasame Chicken can be descirbed in two words: sweet mush. Very little seasoning whatsoever. The menu calls it hot and sweet. It was sweet, but the only person who would even consider that even mild in the hotness department would have had to only eaten hospital food for the last five years. Seriously bland. The General’s Chicken was better; it actually had some flavor. Not a ton, and was nowhere near what I’d call hot(or even mild); this dish is suitable to feed those suffering from chemical burns. The breading wasn’t crisp, and felt more like eating dumplings. Much more disconcerting than the complete lack of spices was the chicken’s texture for both dishes. The General’s chicken is breaded, and it was impossible to tell where the breading ended and where the chicken began. At first I thought that maybe I had a dough ball, that there was no chicken at all… …so I performed an autopsy on one of my chicken chunks. To my surprise, there WAS meat inside. I don’t know how, but the meat was literally soft and spongy! Seriously, there is more tooth feel from a McDonalds chicken nugget; THAT’S how soft the meat was. The seasame chicken was exactly the same way, so it wasn’t just that one dish. I guess the best thing you can say about this place is if every other restaurant in the area closed down, you could eat their food and not get sick. You probably wouldn’t enjoy it much, but you won’t be running to the bathroom every twenty minutes, either. (Seriously, five stars, people? As in chinese food doesn’t *get* any better than this!?? WTF!!)
