Ars Viva was established in 1995 as a musical organization committed to performances characterized by variety and uncompromising standards of artistic excellence with special outreach to the elderly, the disadvantaged and the physically challenged.
The artistic goal of Ars Viva is to present outstanding concerts that reveal classical music as a living and lively art. The orchestra has always comprised many of the most accomplished musicians in the Chicago region, including members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Ars Viva brings classical music alive with programs of artistic vitality and freshness. From its founding, Ars Viva has focused on performing interesting repertoire encompassing all musical periods, especially new or seldom-heard works. Programs may include less-frequently-performed selections by familiar composers, new works by living composers, beloved favorites, or spectacular virtuoso numbers. The Music Director speaks directly to the audience about the music they are about to hear, adding educational and human interest to each concert.
Every concert features Music for Life – A Family Concert Experience. Children ages 4 – 11 are invited to experience a live symphony orchestra. They hear an age appropriate amount of the concert before going to class with instructors from the Music Institute of Chicago. The children’s tickets and class are free with an adult ticket.
