Antique Engine Rebuilding & Parts

I recently purchased a 1931 Ford Model A Tudor which I am driving daily. The car was restored by the owner and his son and son in law, all of who did a nice job. Driving it daily and driving it to shows are different things, and a few odds and ends have crept up. I have purchased some replacement parts as well as safety upgrades (LED replacement lights, etc) from Antique and will be back for more as needed. The owner was very patient with me, took time out from his work to show me around his store and engine building facilities, and answer my long list of Model A questions (I am an early Ford newbie, having always owned air cooled VWS). As a small business owner myself, I know how little time there often is for free technical info, but he provided it and some very nice parts at reasonable cost.
I am considering a more freeway capable engine, and if I decide to go that route, I am definitely going to have Antique do the build.

In August, I had to replace the engine in my model A. I purchased the engine from Antique Engine Rebuilding, and they sent me a new engine, which lasted all of 200 miles before a 4 – 5 inch crack was revealed in the block causing radiator fluid to spray all over the street as I drove.
I was shocked to discover that the crack had been repaired with solder and then painted over!
Thankfully, it was under warranty, so I had them ship me a new engine. When it arrived, we inspected it, and found 3 more cracks in the block each with similar solder repairs, and some along sealing surfaces that would have compromised the seals.
I am asking for a refund, which he’s willing to provide if I send him both the engine blocks I have. He’s already sold my old engine, so I can’t get that back. This leaves me stranded without a core to exchange or rebuild.
