Village Wine Cellar Wine Bar and Bistro

So much potential, but lackluster in so many areas. Staff is nice, but not warm and welcoming. When you walk in, they barely acknowledge you, even though the place was almost empty. Wine is decent but pricey for Pennsylvania wine, and the food is really poor quality. The cheese plate was ok, but all other dishes were not good or fresh. Presentation is totally lacking and it took forever to get a few appetizers. Ridiculously long. It would have been okay had the food been worth it, but it was not at all worth the wait. The shrimp wrapped in prosciutto was watery, obviously previously frozen, and wrapped in limp, barely crisped prosciutto. It was served with wasabi (???) Not sure why, but a terrible combination. Baked potato skins were ok, but no presentation, and looked bland and lonely on the platter. Throw some scallions on for garnish or anything green to make it look more appetizing. Hard to mess them up and with enough sour cream they were edible. Saw a couple next to me get the chicken dish. Literally a piece of golden colored chicken served on a white plate with mashed potatoes. Presentation was zero and it looked so unappealing. Not sure there is anyone with real culinary, or even basic cooking experience running the kitchen. On the plus side, the duo singing Christmas carols was exceptional. They put a jazzy spin on the old classics and really livened up the place. It was the only plus, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. I would go back for a drink, but definitely would eat elsewhere. It’s a cute place, cozy and quaint. But unless they change up the food and the chef, and go up a few notches on the welcoming meter, there are better places to spend your money.

DO NOT GO FOR TAPAS. The drinks were good, the meal was okay. Service was incredibly slow and the appetizers were terrible. I would not go back

I can’t say I am surprised by the other reviews. Tapas items were fine but not great. The provided pita were actually flat bread crackers and not nearly enough for the items the accompanied. Asked for more and received regular crackers (you know, Carr brand). Shrimp was waterlogged so it must have been the frozen kind thawed out. Salads lacked toppings considering $ 12 price tag.
Wine was really good, although I felt the sangria was a measly pour and much more economical to get an actual glass of wine.
Really wanted to love this place. Really didn’t. It could be something special but it needs a little more work.

I’ve been to two separate wine tastings at this place. Both hosted by the owner. The owner really is not overly friendly. The most recent wine tasting was 7 wines instead of the promised 8 and the owner kept our $ 100 deposit (doesn’t «deposit» usually mean you get it back?). Also, she rushed us out before the place was even closed. None of us will be back and we will be telling our friends not to bother as well.

First and last stop on our Winetober festival outing. Their blush they offer is very good ! Sweet, yet not overly sweet. After making our rounds through the festival, we decided to eat here too before leaving, and what a great decision that was.
The food is very reasonably priced! A cheese board for $ 12??? Yes please! And you pick from a wide selection of cheeses, meats and accompaniments.
With each dish on the menu, a wine suggestion is offered. How great is that? They also have some off menu items (with good reason, probably doesn’t pair well with wine.) We ordered a cheesesteak for only $ 3.50. Not the best I’ve ever had, but at $ 3.50 it was well worth it.
I had the lobster ravioli, which was decent. For $ 16, you get 4 pieces. So if that’s not going to fill you up, order something in addition. My friend ordered the filet, which came out just ok the second time. We had to send the first one back because it was pretty much medium well when we ordered medium rare. Waitress was completely understanding and even offered to send it back. It was cooked accurately the second time, but I don’t remember how well the flavor was. The chef himself came out to make sure it was cooked to our liking.
We had to ask for water twice from our waitress, but not a big deal. It was very busy being Winetober fest, and our waitress was very nice and sweet.
This place is well out of my way, so I wouldn’t go out of my way for it. But next time I’m in the area, I would definitely drop by to enjoy a bottle of vino and the cheese board.
