Chilkat Guides has been guiding on Alaska Rivers since 1978. Our daily shore excursions, tours, and adventures depart daily throughout the summer in Haines and Skagway, Alaska. Our expert guides bring the highest level of safety and local knowledge to every trip.

The wildlife viewing opportunities from our rafts is truly incredible. The Chilkat Bald Eagle preserve hosts the highest concentration of Bald Eagles in North America.

We also lead exceptional wilderness rafting expeditions on the Tatshenshini, Alsek and Kongakut rivers. Come explore some of the wildest and most scenic areas of Alaska.

Had an amazing hike and float trip. So much fun and tons of stuff to see. The hike at first is a bit steep but we had a woman in her 70’s on our tour and she kept up. Would highly recommend.

We (myself and 8 family/​friends I was on a Princess Cruise with) did the Chilkoot Trail Hike & Float Trip, and love, love, LOVED it! It was awesome that it was a small group, so it was just us the whole time. Kane was an awesome tour guide and really tailored the trip to us on the fly.
The drive to the trail was gorgeous. He pulled over so we could take a picture, and he told us some history along the way.
I wasn’t expecting the hike up & down to be as intense as it was (I mean, we were on cruise with most 50+ year olds), but it was very doable if you’re used to hiking. Of course the flat terrain was easy. Kane was honest about what he knew and didn’t know, and helped us pick some berries to eat while we hiked. The group I was with is normally pretty active so the hike didn’t take us long so he was able to show us a beaver dam too.
The float trip was really just that: a float trip. There was no white water whatsoever and he did all of the steering, but you’re still outfitted with boots & a life vest, and he gave us a safety talk about the raft (he gave us one before hiking too). Again because we were making good time, Kane beached us so he could talk about the surroundings.
At the end of the tour they gave us a cookie, water, and a warm beverage. Then he drove us back to town, offering to drop us off wherever we wanted to go next.
