Hair On the Avenue

I was recently married and had a wonderful bridal experience at Hair on the Avenue. Debbie and her team did an excellent job styling all of my bridesmaids hair and make-​up. My hair was also done at the salon and I absolutely loved it! The entire process was very organized and well-​planned. It made for an easy, fun-​filled morning at HOTA! I would recommend the salon for an bridal party!

This is my second review because I love getting my brisa gels done by Rachelle! Although I don’t have much time to spare, I love that she cares enough about the health of my nails to not use tools like dremmels to file my nails. She comes up with fun frenches for me because I need to go extra weeks sometimes with my busy schedule. My nails last and get great comments everywhere I go. I would rather spend money for quality then be cheap and risk my nails so I will continue to go to HOTA!

what a great experience! I asked for a color that was «bold, yet still professional» and received exactly that! hairstylist was great; receptionist was great (I even got to drink some coffee); and shampoo-​massage was AMAZING. the best part was that it was the same price as my old salon, and I got a discount for referring a friend. I will definitely be back in a month for a touch up /​trim

I booked Hair on the Avenue for my bridal party hair appointments for my wedding in July. Debbie and her team were wonderful! They were excellent at communicating with me leading up to the day, and everyone’s hair looked awesome. Justina, who did my hair, was AMAZING and eager to make sure that I had exactly what I wanted. All of my girls were done in plenty of time, which has not been the case for any other wedding I’ve been involved in. They wanted to make sure that my special day was perfect, and I give Hair on the Avenue two thumbs up!

I wont be going back to this salon. I went quite a few times and beware prices do radically change even when seeing the same stylist! When Amanda did leave i was left booked in with the owner who first pointed out what a bad job Amanda had done with my dye job (i had brown underneath blonde) it was very uneven she said… So i put my trust in her and she advised she would fix it. Needless to say when i got home i notice that i still had this brown streak (thanks!!) you may wonder why i did not inspect my hair? To be honest i was desperate to get out after i ask her how much a cut was from her and she replies ‘you couldn’t afford me!!’ I found this to be arrogant and rude! Sorry but this place is a dime a dozen. Ive been to many salons in Europe and USA that are alot better and would laugh at the prices and expertise which is obviously not up to par.

I went to Hair on the Avenue for several years to get my gel nails done. While staff is friendly and I liked my technician, I always felt that despite the fact that tip is included, they were extremely overpriced and it took SO DARN long. I can’t spend 95 minutes (more if I have to wait which was usually the case) every other week getting my nails done! They file by hand, which in addition to taking a long time, means you’re breathing nail dust for that long. My new salon (which charges WAY less) uses a dremel tool to file and I am in and out in 30 minutes! Some people may enjoy the leisurely appt, but I personally love being able to count on getting right in and out. Also, I really hated the fact that they charged more if you came every 3 or 4 weeks for a fill, instead of the 2 wks that they obviously prefer… which didn’t matter because my nails rarely lasted that long without lifting. I also gave a gift certificate to HOTA to a friend for a manicure and she was unimpressed and blown away by how expensive they were.

Hair on the Ave. has gone down hill. I had been going here for a while simply because, let’s face it finding a descent stylist in Berks county can be quite a challenge. Recently, I was very disappointed with the customer service and overall bad business practices I’ve encountered. I thought I found a stylist I liked, so I tried to have patience with this place and just giving it chance after chance. You don’t tip the stylists here, which is fine except they turn around and charge you outrageous $$$$ for the services rendered. This would be OK if the stylist would consistenly charge the same amount. Prices for a cut/​color seem to randomly change here. I could understand this if I was seeing different hair stylist every time I went in, but that just wasn’t the case. Initially I had seen a few different stylist. I would say about 5 different stylists until I finally found one I liked, but did eventually find someone I liked. It is my understanding that depending on ‘level of experience’ they charge more/​less, but when you see the same stylist and they charge you $ 45 for a cut one visit and $ 60 the next (and that does NOT include a blowout)…well that’s just bad business practice. Trying to even get an appointment with the stylist is at times challenging, to say the least. Apparently, if you don’t book 4 – 6 weeks out you can’t even get in and if you try to call and change your appointment (even with ample notice, I’m talking like 2 weeks), they will be unable to accommodate you. Receptionists have bad attitudes, not friendly or customer service oriented AT ALL. This place really needs to have a serious sit down with staff and check some people on their attitudes. No matter how busy you may be value your clientele. The only reason your business is able to exist is because of the customer. Here today, gone tomorrow. It’s just that simple. Disappointed. Very very disappointed.

I will be back to this place! Very friendly staff. Amanda was super sweet and knew exactly what I wanted and needed! The location is lacking a bit of an upgrade but the no tipping policy makes up for it! I even got a thank you card with coupons delivered to my house! What a service! Definitely recommend it if you are from the area or driving by!

I love this place! I travel almost an hour to get there to have my hair done. The reception staff is warm and welcoming as soon as you walk in the door. The owners, Deb and Dave are super sweet too. The stylists are VERY well trained and do a phenomenal job. There is more expertise here than I have ever seen anywhere. No wonder they were voted one of the top salons in the country and the #1 Salon in Reading six years in a row!
