This place is not what it was when it first opened. It’s too bad.

Live a block away from this place and ate there on 3 separate occasions. The décor is just awful, second only to the food. The first was shortly after they opened. It was satisfactory food, but when the check came I felt like I needed to report a rape. It was overpriced and not half as good as the fatburger I could have ordered there 6 months prior. The second time was a few months later. I went back for two reasons: as i said it is a block away from my house and I was NOT paying. I ordered some kind of burger with chiles on it and when it came it looked pretty appetizing. Then I actually took a bite, it was disgusting. I didn’t want to cause a fuss so i just ate the fries and took the burger home, where I discarded it upon arrival. My third and final visit was conceived out of(again)proximity and sheer hunger. I played it safe and got a cheeseburger. This, of course, was to no avail. To best understand the quality of burger that this place is slopping out just look up Eddie Murphy’s House Burger sketch on youtube. It is an inconsistent, poorly made, sandwich. Not to mention that the french fry portions are becoming less and less the longer that place stays in business. The fry portions must be linked with customer satisfaction. There wont be a fourth time. skip it.

Doesn’t look like much on the outside, but I was pleasantly surprised with the food there. I’ve already been back several times. The menu has something for everyone – I really like the cobb salad and the mediterranean wrap. The homemade chips are really really good. My husband really liked the other unique side dishes. The staff is really nice too. Seems like people are catching on to this«hidden» restaurant — -the last couple of times I’ve been there, it’s been packed! Skip the mediocre diners and come here for really good food!

4 Stars Navigation told me this was a Fatburger, so I was disappointed at first and passed it up. couldn’t find anything else, so I decided to give it a shot anyway. Damn!!! this burger was better than fatburger!!! I ordered the«Just a burger» and had them cut the patty to ¼ lb. instead of the regular size. Also ordered fries and chili as sides. The burger was really the best I’ve had in SoCal so far. Fries were ok, too much seasoning for me, and the chili was just ok. Service was great too, and it seemed like the server was really proud of the food they served. I’ll definitely be back to try«Da Bomb»(«Simi’s Largest Burger») sometime soon.

This a throw back diner style place with old Coca Cola memorabilia type stuff around. They actually have Coke in a bottle if your willing to pay a premium price for it. Its not very big; probably seats about 50 – 60. I have eaten here twice, and both times it was almost very good. Both times I ordered a burger and both times they completely over cooked it and the same for the others in my party. Its really too bad because you can tell that it would have been good had it not been well done. I like my burgers a little pink and juicy, they were well done and dry. The sad part is they ask you how you want it cooked. The first time I asked for medium I got well done. The second time I went for medium-rare and still got well done. Everything else was great. My cowboy burger(like a western bacon cheeseburger at Carl’s) had fresh produce, quality large bun, great sides with lots of choices. I tried the cole slaw(it was good but not great) and the onion rings which they say are homemade but it was hard to tell because they too were very brown and over cooked. I also tried the battered garlic fries, they were very tasty but you guessed it, dark brown and in my opinion, over cooked. The homemade Parmesan potato chips were very good! The burger I got the second time was the chili size. The chili was excellent. Good flavor and no beans. My daughter got the fish sandwich that was pretty good and my son got the corn dog which was as good as every other corn dog you have ever had. One cool thing about the kids meal is carrots are a side option. I did see an order of nachos at a neighboring table that looked very good, and they were huge! The service was ok but not outstanding. We actually got better service the time the restaurant was full vs. the trip when they were half full. I would say there prices are adequate, you enough food for what you pay for. Each entrée comes with 2 sides. Some of the sides are a little extra like the battered garlic fries I tried. I think both of the burgers I tried were $ 9.95 and the kids meals were $ 4.95. I will probably try this place again(mainly because its connected to a Dairy Queen on the other side of there wall and I stop there from time to time for my ice cream Blizzard fix), but if they don’t do a better job cooking their burgers I’ll start going elsewhere.

As far as décor goes, this place is pretty kitschy. Not nearly as covered from ceiling to floor in knick knacks like a johnny rockets or some other 50’s era chain. This place tries. That’s a good thing. Bad thing: long wait times. I dunno if it’s the recession and an inability to pay employees, we had to wait a long time for our food. The one guy who served us was really chipper, cheerful, and easy-going, but prompt and attentive, he wasn’t. The food was decent, 3.5 stars, but the wait and the speed knocked it down the rest of the way — for having only 4 – 5 tables occupied, you’d think that they’d have filled our order quicker.

Decided to give this place a shot because I saw their ad in my gym. It looked cool and we don’t have very many«diners» in Simi. Well, a friend and I went in, seated ourselves, and were not even acknowledged for a good 10 minutes. I got up and got a menu MYSELF, and looked at it for another 10 minutes. Still no acknowledgment. So after 20 minutes of just sitting in a half-empty restaurant, we got up and left. I can honestly say that this place was the only restaurant that I’ve actually left because the service was so poor(or in reality, nonexistent). I think there were 3 other parties there, so it definitely was not busy.

The service is really quite bad. We have been there a few more times and the last time was it. No more. The the wait staff(what there is of it) are unable to wait more than 2 tables at a time. Our party of 3 had our food brought out dish by dish several minutes apart. The buns on our burgers were cold, and my hamburger was still raw in the middle, Raw not rare. Too bad, I really wanted to love this place. BUt not an enjoyable meal with such bad service.

We wanted to try this new place in town. The 50s diner style was fun, but the best part were the people who worked there. The owner came around and talked to us, even brought us some of his ‘kick-ass’ Bar-B-Que sauce for our fries. The wait staff kept our drinks full and the food was great! I had a patty melt that was delicious with very good onion rings, and my wife had a mushroom burger with chili cheese fries. Everything we tasted was good. They got one part of the order wrong(Cheddar instead of Swiss cheese on my wife’s burger) but all in all it was a positive experience. Definitely a place I would recommend

Formerly Fatburger, formerly Burgers Etc… Scheck and Shay’s is nice little 50’s style burger joint in the middle of Simi Valley. Hopefully this place doesn’t go the way of the restaurants it replaced. I was alone and hungry last night and fancied some Fish and Chips, but on the drive around the corner I noticed this place was half full and changed my mind. I’m always up for some chilli cheese fries tbh. Anyway the interior isn’t much different from before. They still have the counter where you can sit and watch your food being prepared. The owners were very nice and actually thanked me for stopping in before I had even looked at the menu. I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and chili cheese fries, no drink. The total came to $ 8.65 which is okay. I didn’t order a drink as I was taking it home to consume with a couple of beers. While I was waiting for my order I couldn’t help but notice that the owners would walk from table to table chatting with customers and refilling their drinks from the soda fountain for them. This might annoy some people, but I thought it was a nice touch. The food was cooked to order so it took a few minutes, they brought my order over, thanked me again and I went home. The food was pretty good, the sandwich was a decent size not massive, but not so small that a guy would want to make a pig of himself and order two. The chili on the fires was great, very meaty and not a thick gravy like at Tommy’s. It also came with a small container of coleslaw which was welcome bonus. I will definetely go back to Scheck and Shay’s and fully recommend it to the burger lovers out there in Simi-land.
