Great Guy and Great Shop! Butch and his shop is everything you want in a repair shop. Personal one on one, knowledge, care, and love for the product. I can’t say enough about my experience I went in for a simple suspension change and after talking with Butch and realizing we were both on the same page. I had to start the modifying. I first priced it at Simi Harley and Butch was half the price and with Butch you know who works on your bike. That matters to me. You can’t go wrong with Butch working on your bike and he has a cool shop. If there was a bar next door I’d never leave. Take your bike to Butch! That’s it.

Took my old iron head to butch with a charging issue, butch was awesome and super helpful, we went over the options and came up with a great solution that didn’t hit me in the pockets hard. Like most I prefer to all my own work on my bike, but for the hard stuff I’ll take it to butch.

Update — We finally had the engine noise properly diagnosed and repaired on our Sportster. It was simply a loose torque compensator nut and primary chain causing the problem. There was also a loose exhaust heat shield. The actual repair took only 3 hours and the bike is perfect. Unfortunately Butch’s approach to this simple problem, which involved removing the heads and cylinders was completely unnecessary and we now have a cylinder base gasket leak from where he did a shoddy job reassembling everything. Sucks to be us. Out $ 1400 bucks for nothing…

I recently saw a review of this shop and felt I had to share my experience . I have had the same Harley Sportster for 21 years, it has been my daily rider, my head clearer, my favorite place, my confidant and my constant companion for every one of those years. One morning I was headed out of Simi Valley, got about halfway up the hill into the Valley when my bike made a horrible«clunk» and died. I had it brought home, and started tearing the bike down, finding nothing… I then contacted Butch. His first suggestion was to load the bike into my truck and bring it to him so he could have a quick look and listen. I did, he did and he made a few suggestions and would not take a dime for his time. I followed his suggestions and it was to no avail. I brought the bike back, we discussed options and he, being very honest, told me he would not recommend repairing a 20 year old bike, that he would have to charge me to even look at it further as he would have to start tearing it apart. He was very clear about his suggestions, very clear about cost and very clear that this could cost close to running over to Harley and buying a new Sporty. He found the problem within a few days of my dropping the bike, and considering how busy his shop always is, I was shocked at the speed in which he was able to tear the bike down. We were looking at a shattered piston, a bent piston arm, and a bent valve. The cases would need to be split open to remove all debris and he would have to find the cause of the problem… what made the arm bend? We discussed cost, parts, labor, what would have to be done to split the cases, where he had to send it, what was going on with the heads. He was very detailed in what he needed to do and the how the time frame depended on me and my ability to pay. As anyone dealing with the motorcycle industry can tell you, people often have a warped sense of what is happening, what things will cost and how the $ 200 job becomes a $ 2000 dollar job by requesting you add this and that. Time is money, parts cost money, and he reminded me of this each time I suggested we «just do this too». When he turned the bike over to me, he was clear about how to break it in, how to seat the rings, what to do and not to do on what was basically a new engine. I followed his instructions closer than I have any ever given me before or since. In the end, the bike was repaired for the cost quoted, within the time quoted and has had over 50,000 miles put on it in the three years since Butch repaired it without incident other than worn tires and chains. All I can say about Butch’s Custom Cycles and Butch as a person is he and his shop exemplify honesty, integrity, fairness, quality and openness. I have dealt with Butch and his shop exclusively since he rebuilt my bike, have been present when he has been talking to other customers and have found the communication about what was going to happen and what it would cost to be always clear and brought up in the beginning. I cannot recommend this shop enough, the honesty, integrity, knowledge and quality of work is unsurpassed.
