Edward Adams House B&B

Our stay with Nancy at the Edward Adams House couldn’t have made our little trip to Silverton more perfect. It was absolutely precious. I am a hotel snob and I’ll be the first to admit it. I like new, updated, luxury accommodations, and WOW this completely surpassed my expectations. Husband did GOOD.
We were the only ones staying in the house that night and Nancy sweetly greeted us with excitement and enthusiasm upon our arrival. She showed us around and had homemade chocolate chip macaroons waiting for us (delish btw).
She told us her background, about her late husband, and about Elvis! My husband played some records in the music room as we got ready to head out to dinner. Our room was comfortable and the bathroom pretty and quaint.
The next morning, she delivered tea to our room as we got ready for breakfast — which was all HOMEMADE and DELICIOUS!
She had a beautiful spread of homemade blueberry muffins (from her friends garden), homemade granola, yogurt, fresh fruit, and smoothies. We had GREAT conversation with Nancy and got to learn about her life and her children. She is an absolute GEM and we look forward to our next visit with her at the Edward Adams House.

We were delighted by our stay with Nancy in Silverton – this beautifully restored Edwardian home was spotlessly clean and filled with delights. A lovely garden, a music room, our in-​room fainting couch, homemade granola and banana bread for breakfast, and delicious port and fresh cookies before bed! Silverton itself is a storied town (Wiki it before you come), the gateway to many beautiful hikes, parks, and acres of Christmas tree farms. Nancy is knowledgeable and helpful about both the house and the area, and we very much enjoyed her cooking and hospitality. The only literal glitch was spotty network, but the house is so charming and restful we were happy to put our devices down and enjoy the impeccable atmosphere.
Definitely would stay again and I’ve never had a better chocolate chip macaroon in my life (they were even gluten-​free)!

The Edward Adams House B & B in Silverton was a pleasant surprise. We bypassed Portland, and this is where we stayed instead. The owner is a classically-​trained violinist, and played in the Los Angeles area for many years. The house has been lovingly and knowledgeably restored, and is pleasant, clean, and delightful. We received a coffee tray in front of our door in the morning, and chocolate cherry liqueur when we got in in the evenings. Breakfast was home-​made baked oatmeal, quiche, and granola with yogurt (one each day). We liked it so much that we stayed an extra day. Silverton and the Oregon Garden were also charming.

— A warm and friendly hostess
The only negative was that the WiFi connection from Sara Jane’s room was poor.
It’s a positive in my mind, but be aware that the rooms do not have televisions.
This is (in my mind) the quintessential bed and breakfast, in a lovely little town that values visitors.
I can’t wait to go back to Edward Adams.

We are not typically B’n’B types, but this was one of the most wonderful experience we’ve had at ANY get away lodging adventure out! We’ll be returning, for sure.

~The coffee delivered our room in the morning (NICE touch!).
~The wonderful jetted tub in our octagonal bathroom (extra perk, we stayed during a full moon so the bathroom was lit up so beautifully with all those incredible windows!). It was stunning!
~The wardrobe to put our clothes/​shoes/​bathroom stuff away so we could breathe and relax in an uncluttered room and bathroom.
~Very clean and neat– I’m not a fan of Victorian era décor, but obviously she tried to keep things historically accurate and THAT was appreciated as I do love history. She kept it to the time period, but so simple and quiet that we were not overwhelmed with lace and flowers. THANK YOU!
~Breakfast was simple and delicious. She even served homemade granola and scones. The serve wear caught my eye and made the food more beautiful as well. Her presentation was appealing.
~The host, Nancy, is a great story teller and wonderful resource for local must sees as well as very knowledgeable about the community. She is also not overly chatty. I think she’s developed a good sense of who wants to chat and who wants to be on their way. We were probably a bit of both but in the end she is such a fascinating person you want to talk more with her!
~Conveniently located — we walked into downtown for our dinner one evening.
~Bathrobes! :) I love it when there are bathrobes. The website didn’t mention it at all, but they were a nice surprise and made our stay even better.
~The Wifi was strong. That’s a big deal to us young’ns. :)
~She had light snacks available downstairs at all times. Very nice!

~Not much, if anything!
~We found the keys a bit hard to use, but that’s because they’re SO unique and again, accurate for the time period… it’s actually kind of cool! I was more impressed with them than annoyed.
~A note on Elenor’s Room (
). We didn’t read the description well before booking and was surprised when we found a European style bath/​shower (which means it was a tub with a handheld shower only). It was a bit awkward to figure out without spraying water everywhere, but we got the hang of it by the next morning. :) I didn’t mind it as much as my husband but I think he would prefer a different room the next time we come. Bottom line, it was not a distraction from our relaxation. I would definitely advise older people who have a hard time with large movements to not stay in this room. It might be a bit of a difficulty to climb in and out.

~Old houses have thin walls. This isn’t anything we were surprised by and simply one of those things that makes staying in BnB’s less desirable to us. We had quiet neighbors so it wasn’t that big of a deal, but I was worried they might have heard me playing music from my ipod. I like to soak in the tub with some relaxing tunes but even at my lowest volume I questioned what they could hear. …along with that: No Noisy Sex! Keep it down!
~I would really like to just sleep in in the morning rather than tidy myself up to come down to breakfast. It was 8:30am which isn’t that big of a deal to most people, but when you have a toddler at home, it’s an incredible luxury to just STAY in bed in the morning. Nancy, the host is quite accommodating, though. I think if we had simply requested a later breakfast she likely would have been fine with that. We’re not very well versed on BnB’s so it felt awkward to ask. All the guests have to pretty much agree on a time that works for everyone. The second morning I didn’t bother to take my bath before I went down. :) I just came down in my exercise clothes and no shoes. No harm done.
~If you are an introvert, you should hope you don’t have a chatty house mate. :) Or, learn how to politely excuse yourself. I’m still working on that skill. If you’re an extrovert, you might meet some new friends!
~No TV. This is normal and intentional. Enjoy it! :)

Nancy makes her B&B as near perfect as makes no difference, for people like the reviewers above, my companion and me. I would reach so far as to say she has decorated it in the style of Bach’s Goldberg Variations, elegant to a fault, spare where it need be, a complete expression of transcendent artistic expression. Outside, deer lay under the fruit trees and even people on the sidewalk across the street smiled and greeted us.
In addition to the LP and CD classical music libraries, the front room where the Steinway resides has reams of sheet music.
It really may be the most enchanting, beautiful place I’ve ever stayed.

Like many first-​tier B&Bs, the Adams House has charming rooms, polished hardwood floors, an exquisite outdoor garden and pagoda, and sumptuous breakfasts, along with evening snacks and silver tray coffee and tea service in the morning. It’s a historic landmark house in a picturesque mid-​Willamette Valley location East of Salem and within easy striking distance of the Cascade Mountains as well as many of Oregon’s prime winery destinations. It’s not even that far to the coast, for that matter, or to marvelous state parks like Silver Falls, one of Oregon’s most popular for locals and outside visitors alike. The downtown is quaint, walkable, and classy, with excellent shopping, coffee, and dining out options (esp. the Silver Grille). And of course the owner, Nancy K., is approachable, animated, and articulate, making you feel smarter and more sophisticated simply by being in her presence.
The rooms upstairs (there are 3) have distinctive flair and unique features: Sara Jane’s room has a wonderful Victorian «fainting couch,» which is comfortable enough to fall asleep on (trust me on this). Eleanor’s room has an octagonal turret in the tiled bathroom which lets light pour in and reflect off the pale white walls and porcelain surfaces. If you haven’t taken an actual reclining bath in a long while, this is your chance.
But for all these amenities — and they are indeed impressive — the most remarkable feature of Adams House is the library and LP record collection, which Nancy has meticulously organized in one of the second floor rooms and made available for guest use. I spent several hours perusing the book shelves on my first visit, reading, browsing, and jotting down titles and authors of interest. It was like being in a bookstore.
On my second visit, I ventured into the music collection, starting with a beautiful recording from 1955 of Glenn Gould’s «Goldberg Variations» by J.S. Bach. Inspired by the experience, I went back to the shelves and located a recording from the 1980s by a Czech pianist of Beethoven’s «Diabelli Variations.» By the time I was done listening, breakfast was ready. What a nice way to start the morning, don’t you think?
Visiting Silverton and staying at Adams House is not so much «stepping back» in time as it is «stepping sideways» in time: moving horizontally away from the routines of your regular days and nights and experiencing, however briefly, an alternative universe: one in which music still plays on records, books still are written on paper, and tea is still served on silver in fine china. It’s easy to appreciate — and hard to leave behind when you return to the road. I doubt that you will be disappointed by your initial visit. You’ll likely return in the future, just to make sure that it wasn’t just a dream, after all.

Wonderful bed and breakfast! We really enjoyed our visit, the room was very clean and comfortable and our private bathroom was beautiful. We loved that it wasn’t overdone with decorations and heavy furniture like some bed and breakfasts. The breakfast was delicious and Nancy was very welcoming and helpful.

We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Edward Adams House. Nancy was delightful — as sweet as could be. She had fresh shortbread, still warm from the oven, waiting for us when we arrived. She gave great suggestions for places around town to visit or eat at. And then fresh coffee waiting at our door first thing in the morning. What a wonderful way to start the day! Breakfast was delicious — a nice change from other B&B’s we have stayed at where they served a really heavy breakfast. Nancy served a fabulous soufflé, fresh fruit & blueberry muffins. Perfect start to the day. We are already looking forward to our next stay!

We stayed with Nancy at Edward Adams House on a business trip– we had two rooms both with with their own bathrooms (mine had a jet tub) —
What was so wonderful about this place is no drippy silly dried flowers and dumb props– instead nice white bedding, nice soft pillows, fluffy white towels… Quiet at night.
The ultimate topper was breakfast… Good strong coffee in a silver coffee pot– fresh homemade bread and berries and a soufflé (yes a soufflé!) that was so, so perfect– really the finest I’ve ever tasted (and I’ve actually tasted a few!) the herbs just flavoring and scenting just perfection…
We will be staying here again!

My husband and I stayed at the Edward Adams House B&B for two nights and every moment was perfect. The restored Victorian is clean, warm and friendly. Hostess Nancy made wonderful cookies and was always available to answer questions. The Steinway piano is a plus for musicians, and music lovers will also appreciate the quiet hideaway filled with classical and jazz records. Walking distance to downtown Silverton was a great benefit. All in all, a great vacation spot.

I’ve stayed at the Edward Adams House twice since it reopened and have greatly enjoyed myself both times. The food is wonderful and the house has great ambiance and Victorian charm. Nancy is super friendly and gave great restaurant and sight seeing recommendations. I’ll be back!
