We also offer programs specifically designed to prepare students for adjudication examinations associated with The Carnegie Hall and Royal Conservatory Achievement Program and we are proud to be an official regional testing center.
History
Established in 2003.
Washington Academy of Music was founded by Rick Cox upon his retirement from the U.S. Navy Music Program where he served as a staff guitarist for 24 years.
Starting with 10 guitar students, some of whom are still on the school’s roster, the school has grown steadily and now has an active roster of over 200 student musicians.

Rick C.
Business Owner
Rick has been a professional guitarist for over forty years. He began performing in public at age 10 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy Music Program for 24 years as a staff guitarist performing in contemporary ensembles and as a classical guitar soloist.
He has performed throughout the Middle East, Africa, South America, Canada and the United States both as a classical guitar soloist and in contemporary and jazz ensembles. His guitar artistry provided him the opportunity to represent the United States at U. S. State Department sponsored diplomatic functions and recitals hosting Presidents, high-level dignitaries and their guests from the United States and abroad.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy Music Program he founded Washington Academy of Music and The Spirit Ridge Group, Inc.
