A Brief History of the Silverdale Branch Library

Silverdale has had a library since 1945 when the county library district was formed. The library was originally housed in a Sunday School room in the Methodist Church and staffed by volunteers. In 1946, the Silverdale Library Committee remodeled an Army surplus building for use as the local library. The building size was 16’x16’.

In 1955, the Kitsap County Library and the Bremerton City Library merged to form Kitsap Regional Library. Eveyln Bowen was the first Library Director. Kitsap Regional Library provided staff and books to the branch library, but the community provided and maintained the building.

A Small Library in Old Town Silverdale. I’m sure they hear it a lot, but it’s just too small to hang out long, But for what they do have it’s sure does great, Good selection of books for the size, Nice DVD Collection (Classic & New Stuff), Music on CD, Computers with Internet Access. The staff has always been very friendly and helpful !!
Good on Kitsap for keeping this one going. I know the plans for a new library has been unveiled and even a Spot of land off Bucklin Hill. All they need is Millions of Dollars to get going on it. I for one anticipate that very much, From what I’ve seen and a friendly staff it will become my favorite Location

I attempted to bring my son here for their toddler storytime since we’re new to the area and looking for kid-​friendly things to do. We nearly missed the class due to me «only» being 15 minutes early and having to drive around the block umpteen times to find a single parking space. The parking lot here is incredibly small, and people can’t even pull in while others are attempting to pull out. Once I did find a parking space (about a block down from the library) and got inside, the only words that came to mind were «cramped», «old», and «underfunded».
The children’s room was large enough to accomodate the toddlers and their mothers, but tiny compared to other libraries I have visited. I saw no tables or chairs for kids to play and read, just empty floor space.
I can’t say anything about the book selection, because we decided to just leave and call it a bust.
Hoping the other libraries in the area are better, and this isn’t the «norm» for Kitsap. We will definitely never be back to this location.

In the depth of this Washington community lies this community center. A successful library is more than a room full of book. It’s a community centre which brings together a nexus of knowledge, information, clases, co-​operation and kind people. Based on these criteria, I would call this library very good. Though, I did find that it lacked slightly in areas to study. There are probably about 3 tables in the entire library and one of them doesn’t have an outlet next to it. Also the library doesn’t have recycling. The library has the fingerprints of being underfunded, but still struggling to go on in an environment which could do more.

I’m sorry, but quaint isn’t how I would describe the Silverdale library.
Squished, painful parking lot, and underfunded is more like it. It’s too bad that Silverdale’s library is a pitiful sibling of its Poulsbo sister. What more can be said regarding the stark difference between the two (book options, computers, library classes, artwork, parking, building size, layout, gardens, bathrooms…) other than I am very, very disappointed.

Try to not be mislead by it’s small building — the Silverdale library can sure pack a punch! It has a very cute area for children readers and the DVD’s are the best. If I can’t find a new release that I like, then they’re sure to have a documentary or a TV series that I’d love to check out. Also, like any other one of KRL’s libraries there’s always free wifi! Another thing that should be mentioned is that there’s only one bathroom per gender, and you need to pick the key up at the front desk. A plus for those who like their privacy and a minus for those who can’t wait!
The very large drawback is how small this library is. There’s barely any parking and it’s pretty cramped when you’re looking for games or CD’s in the drawers and people are trying to get around you. But either way, this library is quaint and simple and absolutely worth anyone’s time!
