My wife and I used The Maplesden Group for our first home purchase and we are completely satisfied. Their customer service is top-​notch. We worked with Elliot Barber, and he responded promptly to questions no matter how trivial, and guided us through the home-​buying process step-​by-​step. Not only did he help with the contract, but he got us a great deal, found an excellent title company, and even gave us a nice gift once we finally closed on the house. We were referred to the Maplesden Group by a family member who has known David Maplesden for years. We started out at the Long and Foster offices in Takoma Park – the neighborhood we wanted to look in. From our first meeting, we knew that David and Elliot would be a good fit. We spent an hour going through our wants and needs for our ideal home, and then ended with a discussion of viable properties, micro-​neighborhoods we might want to consider, and our timeline for purchasing a home. Elliot and David have worked in DC and Maryland for years and their knowledge of the area and even smaller neighborhoods is second to none.
In the DMV area, it’s hard not to think the odds are stacked against first time homebuyers. For those just starting out, particularly those of us who have spent years choking down outrageous rents, homeownership often seems like a dream come true – assuming you can find something that’s affordable, in a good location, etc. etc. With David and Elliot, we not only found our ideal first home at a reasonable price, but we did it in less than 60 days from start to finish.
What struck us most about David and Elliot was their willingness to give honest advice throughout the home-​buying process. Whenever we met to discuss our needs and wants in a first home, or whenever we found a listing that we thought looked promising, they were able to tell us when they thought it looked like good fit to pursue, as well as when there were red flags (such as a noisy street or poor construction). In fact, the townhouse we decided on was not something we had initially envisioned, but it turned out to be exactly what we wanted once we saw it, and we couldn’t be happier with our decision. As we worked primarily with Elliot, we can attest that he was always patient despite our millions of questions, and always prompt in his responses. He took us step by step through the whole process, from our initial meeting to our closing date. We never once felt overwhelmed or pressured, only that we were in good hands with people who had our best interests at heart. It was a great learning opportunity and experience for us, and we couldn’t recommend David and Elliot highly enough. Not to mention we’re happily moved in only two months after we started looking!

We cannot say enough good things about Elliot! This was our first time buying a home, and we were looking in the Silver Spring/​Takoma Park area. Elliot immediately «got» what kind of home we were looking for, and helped us find an amazing house in Silver Spring and in a relatively quick amount of time. He was extremely patient with all of our questions and walked us through the process. Most importantly, he helped us put together an offer that was attractive to the sellers and he gave us excellent advice throughout the process. My husband and I had the usual first time homebuyer jitters and misconceptions about buying a house and what the DC-​area market had to offer. David and Elliot worked with our (sometimes difficult) schedule to give us a focused, personalized presentation on what to expect. It wasn’t a sales pitch, but an honest overview of what was out there, what we could expect, both the good and the bad.
When we felt comfortable, Elliot took us around and showed us properties. He used what we gave him as feedback on what we liked and didn’t like to recommend additional properties in the area we liked. On our first day of showings, Elliot found us our house.
After we decided on a house, Elliot walked us through contract, inspection, negotiations with the seller, and closing. We were always told what to expect, a range of outcomes, and given expert advice on what to do when we weren’t sure what we should do.
On final walk through, David covered for Elliot who had come down with a bad cold. The sellers had neglected to conduct some of the agreed-​upon repairs, and David gave them hell (in the most professional way possible). He got us additional concessions on our way to closing and made us feel like this wasn’t an attempt to claim a quick commission, but that they actually cared about us and our huge investment.
Both Elliot and David made efforts to get us integrated in our community, sharing information about community groups matching our interests. Both continue to check up on us long after closing and move in.
