This is a really cool place to eat, is very cheap and the food is amazing you have a big variety of options and the food is healthy. The taste is amazing and the place is comfortable and the music got you on the Greek mood! Food for less than 15 dls per person.

I looooove Big Greek. The first time I had Big Greek was at the Rockville location and I can vividly remember the delicious pita and those amazing Greek fries! So, I was so geeked when I started working just a short walk away from the SS location. I have enjoyed everything I’ve ordered from here, most especially the salads! I’ve tried the grilled chicken, gyro and falafel greek salads and they are all super delicious. The portions are large, especially the gyro salad, so you might even be able to share it with a friend, if you’re generous :) I actually gave half of my gyro meat and my pita(it comes with the salad, so yummy!) to a friend and she was able to create her own meal from it. And, we were both satisfied; can’t complain about that. Oh, and I cannot forget $ 5 Wednesdays… gyros are just $ 5(a very filling $ 5) Those are usually the busy days, so be prepared to wait for a few extra minutes. But, it will definitely be worth the wait and you’ll be full!

Yes — THIS is the Greek place you’re looking for on Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring, I promise! There is no going back anywhere else after you eat at the BGC(warning: they’re apparently not open on Sundays)! My only regret is not living or working closer to BGC, but it’s definitely worth the trip! The location and parking are downtown and convenient — and the café itself is super-casual, with a really straightforward menu and friendly staff. Both cash and credit cards are accepted. There is ample seating inside the smallish space, but it would be easy to do takeaway from here if you prefer. You place your order at the counter, pay, then find a table. Your food will be brought to you when it’s ready. How easy is that? I went for the gyro salad — what a smart choice — my $ 10 lunch was much more than I could eat. It was slice upon slice of fresh-shaved gyro meat atop crisp, fresh greens, with ample tasty feta, and all of the usual accoutrements one expects with a salad from a Greek place. Cucumbers, tomatoes, warm and soft pita, and delicious tzatiki sauce! I spotted the freshly-made baklava on display, and upon spying the oozing honeyed goodness, i purchased a large-sized square to go. Upon bringing it home to my Greek and very-critical-of-baklava hubby, he proclaimed it to be the best he had ever had. Now that is saying something! I hope that I have more trips out to downtown Silver Spring(good thing I have a bestie who lives out that way), because I’m definitely going to need some more Big Greek Café in my life!

Our go to on those lazy dinner days, especially on Wednesdays($ 5 gyros), for reasonably priced food for the quality and quantity. Favorites on the menu: gyro with extra tzatziki sauce(sliced pork/lamb in pita bread with onions and tomatoes), Greek fries(Crispy fries topped with feta and herbs), baklava cheesecake(beautiful marriage of the two), and falafel salad. A deal for two is definitely the big Greek platter which comes with a gyro, pork & chicken souvlaki(similar to kabobs), and one side for about $ 15 which is enough for dinner for me and my boyfriend. I do prefer this location over the Rockville location, since it’s not as crowded and has better and plentiful parking during busy hours. Also dine in when possible as I’ve noticed they tend to give you more when dining in. If you don’t wanna wait you can call ahead to pick up, but usually they are pretty quick.

Great Food. Dont get it confused with The Greek Place(the big greek is far better). Always good food and pretty cheap. Try the fiesty feta appetizer.

I stopped by here last week for carryout based on the reviews and the fact that Wednesday is $ 5 gyro day. As all the previous reviews mention, the food was great and the portions are huge. The gyro tasted fresh with the right amount of sauce, and the fries were very crisp, even after the car ride home. I only wish there was more feta aside from the cube that comes with the order. You definitely do get a great value if you grab a gyro on Wednesdays. Although I got take-out, service was great and friendly. I’d recommend picking up dessert. The display case suckered me in and I tried the Napoleon. The taste was great with the right amount of sweetness and richness. If I am back in Silver Spring, I would make another visit to this place.

Love this place. I really like this $ 13 special they have where you can get this Greek lasagna thing(it has a name I keep forgetting) with green beans and a Greek salad. The lasagna is like 2 – 3 meals for me so I can really stretch my $$. I call it my «comfort loaf» I wish they had Coke Zero and delivered :-).

Very simple place in the heart of Silver Springs. Very small inside and not the cleanest. On the day I visited it felt like it was 150 degrees in the store. The food in your normal fast food Gyro’s and salads. Great flavor for the price. Give it a try. Gyro was graded at 7⁄10 and the salad 8⁄10. Very large portions.

I’ve been here maybe 3 – 4 times but for some reason, I haven’t written a review for it! It’s a really cute place with maybe only 7 – 8 tables. You order at the front and they bring it to your table when it’s ready. I’ve ordered the gyro, the the shrimp souvlaki sandwich and both are delicious! They definitely don’t skimp out on the shrimps! There were probably 5 – 6 jumbo shrimps in my sandwich. The only thing I can really«pick» on is the fact that there was so much diced onions in my souvlaki that it covered up the tastiness of the rest of the dish. Otherwise though, it was really good. Their fries are also really good. Chrunchy and well seasoned. Not too salty, but definitely still tasty! I would definitely come back here to try their other dishes!

Do not confuse this place with the other Greek place down the street. This is the one you want to go to. Gyro salad is so tasty that it makes you feel a little better about ordering a salad when you really want something else. The Greek fries are so good, the feta and sauces. Yum. But what is ridiculous is the baklava cheesecake. We went to Urban Butcher across the street for my husbands birthday. Spent what would have been 10 meals here, but then came here for dessert. The cheesecake made up for everything else. And the cashier(forgive me for not remembering your name!!!) is so fun, I honestly look forward to catching up with her when we go. Great local food.

The gyro is one of the best I’ve had in the area. It’s flavorful and fresh, and its meat is tender and juicy. The side salad is has a good crunch and lightness to it that complements the heavy and packed gyro. I always expect nice, crispy yet soft fries from Greek restaurants, and these definitely did not disappoint.

Another of my «soul food» haunts when I am at home! Love their falafel and the chicken wrap. The place is clean and the taste consistent. Of and of course the infamously famous Big Greek Fries — Totally legit. To be honest, I have to force myself to not order these — I tend to wolf them down pretty quick, lol! And now for the debate between the Big Greek Café and the Greek Place. I have eaten at both places. My comparison of the Chicken Souvlaki I think BGC wins hands down! That being said — I havent tried other stuff at TGP — they might do better with other things! But when the cravings hit, I make a beeline for the BGC without a thought — it is VERY satisfying and pretty economical — usually 2 meals for me in one sandwich. no complains!

This is a casual place, good for takeout. There is a distinct flavor of BGC. The feta and pepper seems present in every dish, with olives appearing everywhere. If you are a fan of that, like I am, you will enjoy Big Greek Café. I love getting takeout from here once a week. The portions are generous and the food is filling. The appetizer spanikopita is quite large with a dense spinach filling. The salads are just what you would expect, with fresh ingredients and nicely grilled fish or shrimp available. The salad comes with bread, tsatsiki and a thick and rich Greek dressing. The feta-fries are a guilty pleasure.

Big Greek French Fries is a must-have additional side to any order(you should probably get a gyro platter as a first timer).

Big Portion Greek Comfort Food! It’s hard to go wrong here. Even amongst the abundance of great cultural dining options in Downtown Silver Spring, Big Greek Café holds its own as a consistent and dependably awesome choice. Having gone here for the past 5 years, I’ve tried almost everything on the menu. That being said, my first tip would be to check the specials board first — always worth it. Top to bottom, the static menu is excellent, but I ALWAYS go for any roasted chicken specials they run. Here’s some other notes and tips: *The butteriest pita bread in the game *Homemade, meaty, delicious dolmades *Roasted potatoes side — incredible *Crazy fries — beer battered and covered in feta… sooo good *Top notch tzatziki and cucumber sauces, awesome salad dressing *BAKLAVACHEESECAKE(new) — as good as it sounds and you’d imagine Prices are pretty reasonable, especially when taking into account the huge portions. So bring an appetite, dining partners, and leave with takeout boxes to savor it all over again.

Three words — $ 5 gyro Wednesday’s!(They sell it all day Wednesday). It’s conveniently located across the street from my apartment in downtown silver spring so we decided to go for gyro Wednesday’s! Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I feel like most places skimp out on protein for their specials but that is not the case here. The gyro was huge and was filled with plenty of meat. I barely finished the whole gyro, but it was delicious! Also got a side of their Greek fries which has feta crumbles and herbs sprinkled on top — sooo yummy. I would definitely come back to try the other dishes here!

Promise me something. When you go to the Big Greek Café, you will order the«big Greek» fries. As many Unilocalers have mentioned, these are other-worldly fries showered with feta, olive oil, and oregano, and served with tzatziki. They are so good that you might surrender whatever else you have ordered and just eat handfuls of these things. If you want to balance out those«big» fries with something healthy, aim for the Greek salad — it’s enormous(I ended up taking about ¾ of mine home) and it’s a delicious mix of lettuce, tomatoes, olives, red onion, cucumbers, feta(more feta!), red peppers, and, yes, capers! The atmosphere is pretty chill — you order at the counter, have a seat, and someone will bring you your food — and the music is loud and fun. This is my newest Silver Spring spot!

Had the gyro twice and their baklava. My first time experiencing Big Greek Café, it was a solid 4 stars. Great service, great gyro pita wrap. The dressing was fantastic and there was just the right amount of onions and tomato. The Greek fries were awesome with feta and parsley; made hot, fresh, and crispy! I highly recommend their chicken souvlaki as well. So juicy and delicious! The baklava was good, but not the best I’ve ever had. The baklava cheesecake was a sweet delight if you like cheesecake! It was a little too heavy for me. Overall a great place to grab a quick bite of Greek. Cheap, lots of variety on the menu, casual dining. There is street parking, but difficult to find during lunch. Will try again for other options when I’m in the area!
