Dr. Camps Pediatric Dental Center

We have been going here for almost six years & every time we walk in the staff at the desk always have a smile. The hygienists are amazing with my daughter & talk her through the cleaning. Dr. Acosta, Dr. Gavin & Dr. Sarraf have great bedside manner & have always made her feel at ease.

I came to this dentist expecting good things based on the Unilocal reviews however left disappointed and have not been back. I took my 4 ½ year old here for an annual check up knowing that he had a cavity between his two front teeth. His last dentist said that because he was older that we would just wait until they fell out on their own. The dentist who saw us here wanted to take a very aggressive treatment plan and do a double root canal. On both front teeth! Mind you these are baby teeth. The dentist said that they had to fill them or else the root would absorb incorrectly (!). She also said she found 4 other tiny cavities in the x-​ray. Which made no sense to me since I work in a medical profession and my son goes to the dentist regularly.
My son and I were then shuttled to the business office where they went over the cost of all of the work he would need to get done. They wanted to bill my insurance thousands of dollars and have me take my child to the hospital to be put under general anesthesia. They made sure to tell me that I had good insurance and most of it would be covered. Insanity. I smiled and nodded and left there in a hurry.
I later took my son to a different dentist who shook his head when I told him that they wanted to do a double root canal on his front teeth. He wiggled them and said they were loose and it would make no sense to fill them. He also didn’t find any of the other cavities.
I would definitely not recommend this practice. It seems they are only after $$$, and take needlessly aggressive treatment plans.

I’ve gone to this place since I was a 5 yr old little girl and have continued to stay with them at the age of 21. It’s a very friendly place towards children. Also this place will not make you change dentists as you reach the age of 21. My baby brother is a patient here also. He hardly dreads the dentist and would always happily arrive with a big cheesy grin.

love how professional they are with my kids and the care they give is amazing they are so friendly, my girls loves to visit the dentist because they love them.

I love this place have been bringing my kids here since small, and the atmosphere, the people is very great especially when kids are kind of scared on swing the dentist I defit would recommend my family friends here, practice I give a 100 ;)

Have been coming to Dr. Camps Ped Dental Center for years now, its a very clean, very child friendly environment. Waiting room is chock full of things to keep kids busy while they wait (TV, books, computers with games, toys, etc). Sometimes we’ve had to wait extremely long, sometimes we are called back before our butts fully hit the chair.
It does have a bit of a factory feel to you, but it is efficient in moving and seeing a lot of patients around at once. All the hygienists have been great with my now 11 year old son, Dentists are kind, we’ve had some fillings, a tooth pulled, and many many cleanings done and have never been handled with anything less than gentle care.
My one complaint is the front desk operations, they aren’t always the friendliest, its sometimes hard to get an appt and they literally harass you to ensure you’re coming in. Our last visit they called me three times in 24 hours to confirm the appt. Also, God forbid you have an emergency and have to reschedule at the last minute, visit before last I had car problems the morning of and I was asked «well when will you get your car fixed? Can you come this afternoon? «
Laughable.
But overall the treatment and care we get from the back office overshadows the front desk annoyances. Wouldn’t take my son anywhere else.

I just took my toddler to Dr. Camps office and was greeted by a lovely staff member as soon as we walked in! The staff is so incredibly friendly and the office is very child oriented. We waited for only about 5 minutes (we were early) and then were seated right away with Dr. Saffar. She was so welcoming and so was Ferne, her assistant. My son was a bit nervous and they could see this so they started right in with helping him select a toothbrush, which he loved and then showing him around the room. They described to him what each instrument was and what they would be using it for.
He loved it! They were very gentle and answered all of my mommy questions such as «what kind of toothpaste should I be using?» I will always come here for my son. It just doesn’t get any better than this!

This practice may not be the place to go for a dental emergency, based on the reviews, but let me write from the perspective of a father of a 3 year old who has been to Dr. Camps for her first visit ever to a dentist; I can think of no other dental practice that I would recommend. The staff, from the front desk personnel to the doctors, are 100% committed to providing a trauma free experience for a child. This can set the stage for a lifetime of being phobic free of dental procedures. When we were leaving my daughter asked me when could we go back?

Staff is super friendly no complaints there but waiting 28 minutes to be seen is too darn long for me. I rushed to make it ontime but next appointment in 6 months I’ll take my merry olé time and they better see me.

I filled out all the needed information ahead of time to be seen at my schedule time but that didn’t help. I still had to wait 28 minutes w/​o any apologies for their tardiness when i got called back to the room

Dr. Camps and staff are awesome! The staff is always friendly, the greetings are warm and full of smiles. It’s super convenient and there’s free and ample parking. The environment is CLEAN both at in the waiting area and in the back.
I have three children. This is the ONLY dentist that will see the three of my children on the same day. So, yes it is a busy place, but I am a busy Mom.
Also, my daughter is Intellectually Disabled. It was always difficult for her have comfort and allow a Assistant, Hygienist or Dentist to work on her. But at Dr. Camps all of that is in the past. Her anxiety and fears are no more.
My kids are always excited to go to Dr. Camps. When have you ever heard of that! So don’t hesitate to make your appointment.

My family has been going to Dr. Camps for about 7 years but we have now left the practice. In the spring, my 6 year old son fell, knocking out one tooth, pushing a second back into his gum and toward the rear of his mouth, and lacerating his gums seriously. I called the office to request an emergency visit and was told by the doctor to give my son some Motrin and to call back on Monday (it was a Saturday afternoon). This recommendation was despite the fact that I explained that he had knocked out on tooth and that one was pushed back and toward the rear of his mouth. I also noted the fact that his upper gum looked very, very bad.
As the doctor spoke to me, I heard children playing in what seemed an outdoor environment in the background. The next day, that same doctor called me to follow-​up and confirmed that she was out at a playground with her children at the time that I called.
After being turned down by Dr. Camps practice (our practice for years), I took my son to Children’s Hospital in DC. We were there all evening, getting back home around 1am. My son had to have a tooth pulled and his gum massaged back into place. He also received a prescription for codeine. When the doctor from Dr. Camps followed up with me on Sunday, I told her how displeased I was by her treatment of the situation. She was polite and apologetic, which I appreciated. Nevertheless, I was beyond disappointed by the ordeal my son suffered and knew that we would have to find a new practice. I wouldn’t recommend the practice to anyone. We should’ve been seen immediately… but the office dropped the ball in the worst way. Let the patient’s parents beware.

This place is great. Great environment and super nice people. I would recommend them to anyone.

Every time I have gone to this practice — we have been subjected to great and friendly service that is always time.
They have a great area and the employees make my daughter feel friendly. You do see rotating dentists but everyone I have seen is awesome.
They were able fit us in for an emergency appointment which is always greatly appreciated.
We will continue to go back.

Back for the semi-​annual visit. They’re running behind schedule again! Practices that keep patients waiting more than 5 minutes are terrible. They will cancel and reschedule your visit, but make no apologies when they’re 20 minutes behind. Will be looking at a different provider. Not recommended at all.

My current dentist cares for my smile, and has been providing care to my kids since they had teeth. Even so, he referred my youngest to Camps to fill one cavity. That took 2 visits, one for a consultation and another to just do the work. The staff was prompt and courteous. They provided the necessary treatment, but told me my son had 10 small cavities in between 3 pairs of mollars. I was in shock, especially since his current dentist filled one cavity and applied a sealant to help prevent future cavities just a few months prior. Further, the Camps treatment plan would require 3 visits, and an out of pocket cost to me of about $ 1K. Well, I went back and paid about $ 300 to fill 2 cavities (Mind you, I have dental insurance). In the meantime, my child went back for his regular checkup with his primary dentist on ⁴⁄₁. At checkout at that time, the hygenist told me that my son has what… NO cavities. I was shocked yet again. My other child had an appointment today, so I asked my primary dentist to verify if my youngest child had cavities as Camp reported. Guess what? He found NO cavities. Needless to say, I have cancelled my next appointment with Camp, and plan to never return.

Yes, there is a factory feel to this office, but it is clean, quick and all the staff I have been with are fully aware of the difficulties kids have with dental visits. My children respond well to seeing the other kids in the dental chairs; seeings that its normal, everyone does this. From a parents perspective, our appointment have ALWAYS been on time, which is miracle at any healthcare provider office.

Dr. Camps Pediatric Dental Center is essentially a factory — it efficiently moves kids through a common teeth cleaning space at a breathless pace. You will never see the same dentist or oral hygienist twice. I’m not sure if that’s indicative of staffing turnover, or indicative of a large staff. I have met Dr. Camps on only one occasion (not as a dentist, but more as a benevolent overseer), and he was a genial guy.
First and foremost, this place is a business operation, not a dental care facility. Most of the time the customer service is pretty good, but you don’t get much of a personal touch, and no one in the office knows (or particularly cares about) your individual kids.
My experience with the office staff has been mixed — and I had several encounters with a scheduler that were genuinely awful, and what I imagine it’s like to deal with aggressive bill collectors (except in my case, my bills were paid up).
First, I was forced to pre-​pay for a dental procedure. The office repeatedly called me to tell me that I had an «outstanding balance.» It’s not a balance if services have not yet been performed, it’s a pre-​payment. They made me feel as though I was somehow delinquent in my financial obligations to the dental care center and hounded me weeks in advance of the procedure for payment.
Second, I was forced to cancel the procedure twice due to extenuating circumstances at work (I have a new job and was not able to get the time off to go to the half-​day appointment, even though it had previously been approved by management). On the second cancellation, I gave them 48 hours notice, but was lectured that 10 days was required for cancellation. It was also strongly implied that my cancellation was resulting in other children not being able to receive the dental care they need. I felt bad enough that I had to cancel my daughters’ fillings, but now I’m somehow also responsible for the health of other peoples’ children? I offered to let them keep the prepayment and call it even, but I was told it wasn’t about the money, but was about the health of children. The scheduler was condescending, rude and unprofessional. I rarely erupt in my conversations with people providing services, but I lost my temper with her — I felt like I was being bullied to uphold the appointment, even though going would put my job (and continued health insurance access) in some jeopardy.
Eventually, I was handed over to a manager who adeptly handled the situation, but the damage was done. I expect some degree of flexibility from health care providers, and generally 48 hours is more than adequate to cancel an appointment or procedure.
My children aren’t just patients at the center — I’m also a paying customer. As such, I expect to be treated with respect and courtesy. This didn’t happen in this case until I lost my temper. I expect more out of a dental center that is receiving considerable money both from my insurance company and from my own pocket.

We first came to Dr. Camps as an emergency patient. My son had run into a pole at school and cracked his tooth (perm) in half. Dr. Fields was the attending dentist that day. The staff was amazing. Dr. Fields was able to re-​attach the tooth and 6 years and 3 stages of braces later the tooth continues to be healthy.
My first impressions of the office continue to be how child centered everything is. The bright colors, friendly staff and the fun season decorations are a plus. I have always felt (and my kids, too) welcomed and comfortable. The new office is amazing!!!

Agree with the previous post MIC g. It was a little chaotic. But I have to say they were great with my daughter. She has never had a successful dental visit unitl she went to Dr. Camps.
She had a full exam including x rays and they were patient with her and tried different approaches.
I think the open office let her see that it was ok that other kids were getting an exam too.

you could feel the chaos in air and they way it hit your senses as you walked into the office of pugnacious colors over top a blinding whiteness and the child noises are all around you like a flock of birds locked in an office floor that it can’t find its’ way out of. the mind was all akimbo and you held on to that tiny hand just tight enough not to crush it, so as not to transfer any hint of fear into the tiny mind that holds dinosaurs of imagination. then there’s that voice.

she docks you over to her screen of blips, graphs and numbers and smiles at you as if there was no swarm of white jacketed woman blasting about like mortar and shrapnel. she takes your information and tells you to take a seat over by the little people hopping around like frogs and mercifully, a few minutes your name is called and you take that tiny hand down the path, through the forest of tubes, crooked machines, elongated chairs that mock you, bent metal arms with cartoons for a face and try not to get run over by one of the white jacketed people darting by you like antelope. the woman with the black wire wrapped around her head takes to an elongated chair where your tiny one jumps in with more aplomb than naivety. the gloved lady comes over for inspection, smiles, puts on a mask, then shines a bright light into your lying one’s eyes and sticks tubes in her mouth. she puts pink gobs on your little one’s teeth and scrubs while she instructs you upon the correct procedure of teeth scrubing.
done.not a tear or tremble.
the white jacketed man comes over for final inspection. next there will have to be pictures. you hear screams down the hall. the little ears don’t notice. white jackets buzz back and forth. you nod your head, then a pretty voiced jacket takes your little one to get a sticker and bag of goodies. you look over it all as you walk out of the forest and you think you’ve seen this place before… in a dream or a movie, but this ain’t brazil.
you dock yourself at the computer again and you get handed a card. you will be back again in 6 months.

dr. camps is efficient, quick, friendly, but (call me old fashioned) i don’t like the feeling i have been pulled over to the pit stop like a nascar race, swarmed by the crew and then sent on my way. a little too factory-​esque
