Cleverdog Grooming & Day Care For Dogs

Took my dog for grooming and nail clipping. They did a great job. He’s clean and shiny! And the dog was super happy — not scared at all. The staff was friendly and helpful. I heard about Clever Dog from Washingtonian Magazine. I was worried about the low Unilocal reviews. But this place was good.

Clever Dogs staff is reliable, friendly and caring. I had two emergency surgeries last winter and the owner and staff of Clever Dog opened their doors at a moments notice to care for my two dogs while I had surgery and was recovering. My dogs had been there before and they had not forgotten them. I knew they were in good hands!

Our dog trainer recommended Clever Dogs mainly because of Donna. I scheduled a grooming only to find out that Donna is hardly there anymore. Anyway, I dropped off my 10 month old poodle and asked them to keep his hair on the longer side. When I picked him up I was shocked that he had a very short cut and it was super, super expensive. He was there for over 5 hours and obviously had nothing to drink and had not been taken out to go to the bathroom. The cut was not horrible, it just was not what I asked for. I will seek out a place that is not so expensive.

We have been taking our dog to Cleverdog for years mainly because our old groomer started working there. She is recently retired and we had another groomer and the poor dog had the worst haircut of his life. Tanya was recommended by the owner, did a poor job, and no one seemed to care. The cuts have been getting more and more expensive reach time he goes and now the quality isn’t even tolerable. We will be looking for another groomer in the area.

Just started taking my dogs here and I’m very happy with them. Everyone is really nice and make you feel comfortable leaving your pups. I have a puppy and a very large mastiff. The puppy is all about people loving her and rubbing her tummy. The mastiff is all about hiding in the furthest corner and doesn’t want anyone to touch him. He seriously is the cowardly lion. They allow me to put him in the kennel myself, which is HUGE for me. Because he’s totally got a fight or flight attitude. If you keep coming at him and he has no more room to back up then he bites and at 140lbs you don’t want that thing to bite you. They are patient with him and me and I so appreciate that. The fact that they let me walk around without a second thought made me feel good because they obviously have nothing to hide.
One other great thing I liked. They let me walk my puppy in with the other dogs. Then the young lady had to take care of something real quick so she left me there briefly. (its wide open so its not like I was alone). All the dogs just swarmed me. I tried to pet them all but it was really funny to me. I liked that. The openness was comforting.
The only reason I didn’t give the 5 stars was because I thought the grooming price was a little pricey. But I’ve never had my dogs groomed before so I don’t know what the going rate was.

I’m updating to 5 stars. I’m still taking my Lab here and they are really seriously great!!! I’m so satisfied with them. I never have to call ahead to leave my dog overnight. If I drop her off and later decide I really don’t feel like getting her that evening… no problem they will keep her for the night and feed her. Such a blessing really!

This is a great grooming salon. They have nice open doors that are open right to the outside when the weather permits and they take the dogs for walks outside several times. They are very nice to all the dogs and my dog really seems to love it. Their prices are very reasonable and they do a fantastic job.

I LOVE Cleverdog! We took our previous dog, a soft coated Wheaten Terrier, there for the 12 years of his life. Now we take are going on two years of taking our miniature poodle there. I love the environment there — I find it always a happy and cheerful place to leave my dog. And best of all am always thrilled with how they come out looking. Donna — the owner — is a hoot! I love going there. I ofter wish I could just hang out to be a part of the scene!

I was so upset when I picked up my dog today, that I was almost in tears! I asked for a trim and for his coat to be left long. I informed them that his paws were matted and could be shorn shorter. When I picked him up, my Lhasa Apso’s coat had been totally shaved off! All of it. No communication about the reason behind it except «the groomer made a mistake.» It’s awful. We were scheduled to have family pics on our beach vacation and I may just have to cancel now. They also apparently didn’t give him water all day… he drank three large bowls (he usually drinks one a day) the moment he walked through the door. This was out second time here… the first was just okay but after this one, they won’t be seeing my dog again.

I have taken my two standard poodles to Cleverdog for 18 years and they do a wonderful job for a reasonable amount of money. Donna Cleverdon is also a dog trainer. Not only have my poodles received excellent grooming but they have also received excellent training in the process.

Very expensive and did a terrible grooming job.

«@ Bonnie B. commenter» If you are going to have a dog then understand that colitis has nothing to do with the business and it’s not their fault. Why should they refund you because your dog is stressed? I can’t believe you gave them one star for something that is your dogs own fault and that many dogs face. We have two mini-​dachshunds and have encountered colitis. Some breeds gets stressed easily at random times. Maybe you shouldn’t be a dog owner if you can’t handle that it may have more emotions than a teddy bear.

I have been taking my lil’ pup here once a week for about 5 monthes and have no complaints. Everyone knows your dog’s name and they are all very very nice.

+webcam so you can watch your dog play and know that they are being treated well throughout the day.
+grooming (although I have not used it)
+boarding services with dog runs in the evening and day care during the day.
+Good prices! Especially if you buy your visits in a pack.

) reminded me of the fact that I spend more each month getting the freakin dog groomed than i do on my own haircuts, skin care, etc etc.
(Skincare — does a bar of Irish Spring count as a skincare expense?).
And this is where we spend the $.
We have a Keeshond, and she is a beautiful dog with long hair, which amazingly does not shed. In the summer she needs a lot of grooming to remove the undercoat — the experts say never ever shave the dog or cut the hair. And I have to say, when her hair is groomed it is the softest most huggable, cutest thing in the world. Well, maybe a close # 2 to Soccerballgirl.
If you have the skills and about 5 hours to spare you can do it yourself — otherwise we drop the dog off here and they do a fine job.

I took my dog here to get groomed and I will NEVER let her or any other dog near the place. The groomer cut the dog in a variety of places and then had the nerve to charge $ 80 dollars when the price I was given was $ 45 dollars — the dog weighs 40 lbs.
When I spoke with the owner she claimed the dog was difficult and the cuts were minor!
