Angel Floors

My house is just over 100 years old and had carpeting on every floor for at least half of the time it’s been standing. I decided to remove all of the carpet to see if the wood floors could be salvaged. In my mind, the second floor of my home would probably need the floors replaced they looked so bad.
I went about the confusing process of getting quotes from a few contractors. One contractor said I needed to replace all the floors upstairs. Another said that they could «fill in gaps» with wood putty and refinish the floors for a price that was out of this world, not even including replacing shoe molding around the floor. I didn’t like those options and held out for a quote from Angel Floors because of the 100% Consumer Checkbook rating AND the rave reviews on Unilocal.I had to wait a couple of weeks for an opening on their schedule for the quote, but I was fortunate to not be in a rush.
When Roxana came to give a quote, I knew that I had found a winner. As soon as she stepped into the house she identified which flooring was original to the house and what was added later. She told me that I had antique pine that could be saved. She explained why I should never go with a contractor that would fill in gaps with putty. She even was knowledgeable about the woodwork of the period my house was built and what the likely species of the wood around the house was. Her knowledge let me know I could trust her with the job. I knew that I may have an extended business trip at the same time as the job, so trust was essential.
The job had to happen a few weeks later as the Angel Floors team is small and in demand, but it was worth the wait. Antique pine floors that have not had any maintenance can splinter badly if not handled properly. I was out of the country while the work happened, but in constant communication with the team. My floors were very neglected and dry, but somehow Angel Floors made it work.
My only regret is that I didn’t take enough before pictures. Everyone who has seen my living room and dining room floors thinks I had new ones installed.
If you have to wait to get Angel Floors, I say wait. You only get wood flooring done every once in a while so you have to live with the results for a long time. You can trust that you’ll like the service and results that Angel Floors provides.
EDITED TO ADD: I had been warned by friends about the dust from floor refinishing. Especially the fact that I was doing the whole house. All I have to say is «What dust?». I went through the trouble of wrapping up my new fridge before they came to work on the floors, but it was unnecessary. I could not tell that someone had been in the house sanding, they were incredibly neat.

We couldn’t be happier with our refinished floors — they look great! Roxana and Tony were very helpful from start to finish, and obviously take great pride in their work. Excellent quality work for a reasonable price — highly recommended.

Angel Floors did a job that was way beyond exceptional. The previous floor company had screwed things up incredibly so Tony was inheriting a difficult job. The sanding and prep that Angel did was exceptional and they were incredibly careful with everything they did. There was initially a sheen issue due to the fact that we were trying to match up with adjacent rooms that were refinished several years before but Tony was incredibly patient in working to get the floors just right. He consistently showed up exactly when he said he would and did exactly what he said he would do. A rarity in the floor business.

Our floors actually look *better than new* —-I knew Angel Floors would do a great job, but we are simply amazed how awesome the floors look.

I’ve had Angel do two large jobs for me. First was refinishing existing hardwood floors in two levels of my house… sanding, staining and 3 finishing coats… result was beautiful. The second was new engineered oak over concrete slab (with existing very old tile)… lots of weird angles, nooks and crannies and they again performed beautifully with an amazing outcome. I would highly recommend them. Quick, professional, courteous and reasonably priced. My highest recommendation.

Just had Angel Floors do a pretty big refinishing job — about $ 5000 — and we could not be happier with the result. Customer service was outstanding — miles better than two other bidders for the job. We came back to our home thrilled with the result — floors look like new. Not a speck of dust anywhere. The company is very responsive in every way. Texted photos of the work in progress, for example. Always prompt getting back on questions. Even came to the house ahead of the job to review the look of oil v. water choice with samples when we were having trouble deciding. This is a small family business that clearly puts customers first and takes pride in their work.

I used Angel Floors to refinish the hardwood floors in my brick colonial house in DC. I was in a difficult situation because I was in California and needed to find a good flooring company from afar. Since I had tenants in the house, I knew I would not be able to have a lot of flooring companies at the house for estimates. I called two flooring companies that had great Unilocal reviews and they never returned my calls. I also called another company and got a very rude person who refused to tell me how much per square foot they charged and when I asked how many jobs they did at the same time told me it was none of my business. I called Angel Floors and was very happy that they were willing to tell me up front how much they charged per square foot (other companies said they couldn’t give me this info and needed to see the floors to give even a ballpark estimate). Roxanna of Angel Floors was very professional and was willing to answer all my questions via email, another big plus since trying to call companies with the three hour time difference is challenging and I like things in writing. It suggests to me that the company is more honest since they are willing to put things in writing. Angel Floors did need to go to my home to give me a firm estimate, but that was after they had answered all my questions and given me a ballpark estimate so I was satisfied that I would be happy to hire them. They refinished the first floor and did a buff and coat, aka screen and coat, of the second floor, a procedure that is a lot less expensive than refinishing that you can do when the floors are still in pretty good condition. The total cost was a little less than $ 3,000 for about 2600 square feet of wood floors and stairs and the floors look great! I was there when they started so I could see that they actually sanded the first floor. Some companies won’t tell you about screening and coating because they can charge more for refinishing and if you aren’t there, they might do a screen and coat but charge you for refinishing. Can be hard for the uninformed consumer to tell the difference. I would definitely hire Angel Floors again. Very trustworthy, honest folks. It is a small family business so their employees have been with them for years. They were quick to provide with receipts for every payment. Excellent company.

Angel Floors personnel were prompt, professional, and polite. They provided excellent service and the parquet floors they refinished look absolutely wonderful. They were reasonably priced. I would hire them again.

Angel Floors refinished my kitchen wood floors. Everything about working with them was a delight. This is the best of a family business: friendly, fair and super competent. They did beautiful work on my floors, were very careful and neat in my house and charged a reasonable price. I would highly recommend them.
