Alcantara Driving School

A while back, I completed the Maryland MVA Approved 36 Hours Driver Education Course from Alcantara Driving School. The only downside I recall is that my batch had just a few people who were predominantly Spanish speakers and the instructions were given in English and Spanish simultaneously (the instructor had alternated every sentence going from English to Spanish). Since I do not understand Spanish, it would have been to my advantage had the instruction been split into two sessions, i.e. first half in English and the latter half in Spanish, or vice versa. I do warn that I completed the course some years back. The experience may be different — the classroom feel might have changed over the years that have passed by in the mean time.
I recently went back to Alcantara Driving School to get additional behind-​the-​wheel driving lessons with a certified instructor. And I must warn again that because the lessons are very affordable (i.e. $ 300 for 10 hours of instructions — the price is significantly lower than other schools within the surrounding area), there is approximately a month long wait. Hector was my behind-​the-​wheel driving instructor. He is very calm, and collected. He consistently pointed out skills that I needed to improve; he also made notes of the skills I had mastered. He took the time to review the lessons he had covered with me. Hector also teaches the 36 Hours Driver Education Course. From what I learned, he makes the classroom experience more interactive — so if you are interested in having a fun learning experience, then definitely inquire and find out if could you attend the class that Hector teaches; the 36 Hours Driver Education Course is taught twice during the day, if I am not mistaken.
Alcantara Driving School is especially a fantastic option if you are not a native English speaker and your primary language is Spanish. Almost all the staff members are bilingual and they are able to communicate both in English and in Spanish. The entire team is really a friendly, helpful bunch. And if you need to take the Driver Skills Test and you do not have a car, Alcantara Driving School can definitely help. As soon as you have your appointment booked with the MVA, notify a staff member. The school can arrange a car for you to use for a fee of $ 100.

Great experience in terms of in-​car driving instruction to prepare for the driving test. I did not take the classroom part here but when I needed more in-​car lessons I went to them as they were very close to me and affordable. The owners son, Mr. Alcantara is a great, patient teacher whom is of great assistance in learning how to handle a car, driving safety and rules and all skills needed to not only pass the driving test but also become a confident, safe and great driver. I highly recommend.
