Specialties

Nova Graphic Services specializes in typesetting and graphic design for all types of printing and advertising. From business cards, logo design, complex forms, brochures, stationery systems, catalogues, sell sheets, newsletters — we do it all. We also offer printing for your projects, including full color CMYK, spot colors, black & white, multi-​page booklets and NCR multi-​pg forms. In addition we create and produce large-​format signs, banners and posters for trade show or in-​store display. Our fine art division, Nova Art Services, works with artists and photographers to create fine art giclee reproductions of originals on canvas, watercolor paper and photo paper. We offer one-​on-​one personalized service and enjoy using our experience and expertise to make our customers look good.

History

Established in 1986.

Owner and Creative Director, Valerie L. Johnson, has a B.A. in fine art from Scripps College, Claremont, CA. She began learning the graphic design and production side of art at a weekly newspaper in New Jersey. Some time after being named art director of the newspaper, she moved to a new position at a large commercial printer. At the Interstate Printing, Valerie learned computer-​based typesetting and also studied design and typography in New York. She was named Interstate’s first woman manager, overseeing the typesetting and production department staff. After re-​locating to her hometown of Long Beach, CA, she started Nova Graphic Services.

Business Owner

Long Beach, CA native Valerie Johnson attended L.B. Jordan High School and received her B.A. in Fine Art (drawing and painting) from Scripps College, Claremont, CA. She has had additional instruction in scientific illustration at U.C. Berkeley, typography and design in New York, and has a Certification in Writing and Editing Business Publications from Kean University in New Jersey.
