Sierra Hair Zone

This review is long overdue. Song is great with color and style. I go see her every time I am in Sierra Vista. The salon is clean and near the mall. The ladies are always very nice and I’m never kept waiting.

It looks like everyone gets Kelsey as a hairstylist. My first encounter with Sierra Hair Zone was not bad. I happened to be in the area and dropped in to make an appointment. Nothing special, just a trim. As with the other reviewer, I was on time and Kelsey was waiting for me and I was able to just sit down. As far as the products used. I am not sure what they were but I did not like them. The goo she put in my hair before I left smelled awful and gave me a headache. That smell was just as putrid the next morning when I washed it out of my hair. I had a request in shaping my hair and although it didn’t look bad, it wasn’t what I wanted. That’s about normal, there has been only one hairstylist that has ever been able to thin out my very thick hair as I requested. Then she did this funky blunt cut at my ends that really didn’t seem to serve a purpose of what I had requested.
One of my family members mentioned that they needed a hair cut and asked who I went to… this is where the beginning of the end starts.
We called to set up an appointment and talked to Song. She was very polite and helpful. She indicated that we would need to call Kelsey’s phone directly to schedule an appointment. No problem… after hanging up, that is what we did. Only, the two times that we had called, she did not answer her phone and our call was transferred to her voice mail. We couldn’t leave a message because her voice mailbox was full and could not accept any more messages. Ok, we thought, she will clear out her mailbox tonight after she discovers that she can’t receive anymore messages. The next Monday and Tuesday, her phone was not answered and her voice mail was still full. Therefore, making an appointment with Kelsey is next to impossible. I decided to physically go in and make an appointment. At this point, I decided to make an appointment with any of the hairstylists since Kelsey seemed unavailable. Well, wouldn’t you know… the place was full. Only, Kelsey’s chair was empty, I am assuming she had the day off or went home early to check her full mailbox of phone messages. This place gives me the feeling of a claustrophobia it was so crowded and cluttered. There were about 4 – 5 individuals being worked on and then an adolescent girl sitting in one of the stylist chairs keeping herself busy with her phone. There was a woman and her daughter sitting where the chairs are located by the window. The waiting area? The place was FULL and I have never felt so invisible in my life. I was ignored by EVERYONE there. I hate to feel ignored and just standing there for five minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge my presence so that I could make and appointment and leave spoke volumes. The waiting area isn’t hidden from the salon chairs and there is no excuse for such bad service. I ended up leaving when I realized no one was going to ask me if I needed assistance. I refuse to fight for an appointment and know there are other places that will be delighted to schedule an appointment, and welcome my entire family as well. I would imagine that accepting phone calls is paramount to this business and somehow Sierra Hair Zone doesn’t get it.
I don’t know how hair salons are run, how the hair stylist gets charged for renting a booth, but it seems to me that there was not one person there not willing to give up their precious time for someone who walks in the door. It is interesting that the, «it’s not my problem» attitude is in full force because each of the stylists are operating as their own separate business entity. It doesn’t work if you are under one roof– one bad experience affects the whole bunch. There is no camaraderie here– in fact I got some very weird vibes (unfriendly) that felt downright uncomfortable. With that being said, it probably might be a good idea pony up the cash to hire an individual who can do receptionist duties, manage appointments, along with other things like keeping the place tidy and uncluttered, shampooing hair etc. These services are not cheap and customers deserve better.
I don’t know… it’s not my business and my family and I will not be back.
I am so over it.

And here’s another bad hair cut review…, I’ve had nothing but bad luck trying to find a stylist that knows what they’re doing in this town! I told Kelsey exactly what I needed her to do to fix up the mess from the 1^st disaster and again, I think she might have been daydreaming about her boyfriend or something because not one thing I told her to do was done. She didn’t cut the top, shape my bangs, taper inwards or even out my uneven layers. This cut was not what I wanted at all! I didn’t cry, but had to come home, take a pair of scissors & fix the pieces of hair she missed! Catch my drift?
