Called last minute. Desperate for some skin TLC. Although they were an hour from closing, they fit me in! Marie gave me the most relaxing facial. My skin looks 100% better and this was step one! I immediate see a difference in brightness and more even tone. Marie is fantastic. She explained the steps. Was gentle –I’ve been to estheticians (sp) who hurt me! I can’t wait to continue seeing my new face friend and see what lays beneath my next facial! Butterfly Effect… perfect. My skin looks better, I feel better, I’m happier with my skin. It’s really a chain reaction of positive effects!

Loved my brow wax service by Michelle! She was very professional and took her time! Very clean facility and relaxing as well! The products they use are also very gentle which is perfect for my sensitive skin.

I’ve gotten my eyebrows waxed by Elle about 3 times now. She’s super gentle and makes getting a clean up quick and painless (yes it’s possible!). Michelle is a perfectionist and is very good at her craft. It’s a cute spot with a really positive vibe. I will definitely be going back!

This salon is cute yet quaint and carries high end organic products. I visit for Michelle who does my eyebrows. She is quick with a great attention to detail.

I love Butterfly Effect. My amazing boyfriend purchased a spa and wellness gift card for me and luckily, Butterfly Effect is on the list of salons that accept them. Making an appointment was a breeze (FYI, you can call or book appointments online), I cannot recall who I spoke with but they were very polite and answered all of my questions.
The salon is so cute, it’s quaint and welcoming. Upon arrival I was greeted by Rita (the owner), she is very sweet, she confirmed the details of my appointment with me, told me who I would be giving me my massage, asked if I would like to use the restroom first and provided ice cold cucumber water while I waited for the masseuse. Shortly thereafter, the masseuse walked out, she introduced herself (her name is Gina), and Rita told me that she hoped I would enjoy myself. Gina spoke with me for a few minutes — she asked about what I do for a living, if I am or if I ever experience any pain in a specific area, and what type of pressure would like during my massage.
I chose the 55 minute Integrated massage which Gina elaborated on the specifics of the massage and then left me for a few minutes so that I could disrobe. The massage was nothing short of AMAZING. Gina is a true professional and takes pride in her work. I will be back to see her again shortly — next time for their 85 minute massage!
I made my 2^nd appointment for eyebrow sculpting. I had been letting my eyebrows grow out for quite sometime (I had a few «mishaps» with eyebrow waxing in the past that left me with little to no eyebrows). I had my appointment with Michelle– another true professional. My eyebrows look fantastic. I came in with uneven, shapeless brows and could not have been happier when I left. She asked what my preferences were and met them. The wax was basically painless, she measured and even taught me how to fill in my brows with a little bit of pencil, powder and highlighter. I am booking my next appointment with Michelle after I write this review. Righ now my big dillema is whether or not I should splurge and if so, am I going to book another massage or try some eyelash extensions for the first time (everybody whom I’ve met there has them and they look beautiful).

I was so glad to hear Allison had joined the Butterfly Effect staff. I’ve been a client of her for years… So glad she is in Sierra Madre… Much closer to my house! I honestly would drive many miles for her wonderful facials and pain free speed waxing. I am definitely a life time client!

I followed Allison over from her last place and instantly I was impressed! Free parking in the lot or on the street. The place is tucked away in the corner. Great ambiance too. Serene, cozy and private. Allison takes care of me just as she always does. I was very apprehensive at first about getting waxed because I’ve had really horrible experiences with other estheticians-​from breakouts to burns. My skin is sensitive so it’ll flare up like crazy and then break out in tiny pimples a couple days later. This has NEVER happened with Allison and now I won’t trust ANYONE else to wax me. She’s very quick and efficient and the experience is relatively painless.
Her facials are also AMAZING. My first facial was with her so I had tons of questions. She made sure to put my mind at ease and explain the process step by step. My skin has never been better since I started seeing Allison!

This review is for Andrea Guerrero… One of the best Brazilian waxes I’ve had!!! Andrea is so pleasant and friendly, she put me right at ease. I knew from the get go she knew what she was doing when I saw that she used only the blue wax. Process was nearly pain free and she did an excellent job de-​fuzzing me. I’ll be a regular of hers from now on.
FYI. The salon is a bit hidden from the street, and it’s a little hard to tell where the parking lot is… but it’s really no biggie. The salon smells wonderful and the front desk girls were very polite and friendly, offering me water is soon as walked in. The salon itself is quite clean, which I find super important. I’ll be returning shortly.

I just love Andrea Guerrero !!! She makes me feel younger. I love my eyelashes! I have not used mascara in 4 months!!!

I bought a Groupon for eyebrow and Brazilian waxing service with Andrea Guerrero at Butterfly Effect Day Spa. The spa is nice and welcoming and parking is great. Andrea has a wonderful friendly way about her and did an excellent job with my eyebrows. She explained the important basics of eyebrow shaping and I’m sure that will continue to be helpful.
Why only 2 stars? The Brazilian wax. Once I got home and showered it was apparent just how much hair still remained. I’m not sure whether she was rushed because she had another client waiting, but the results were disappointing. After all the time and pain, I kind of wanted to be smooth as I’ve been after wax services I’ve had at other salons.
I would definitely return for my eyebrows. Never again for a bikini wax.

Extraordinary spa!” Extremely relaxing atmosphere, finest organic skincare products and everyone is SO polite. Rita’s facial is not rushed, she makes one feel completely restored and renewed. Gina’s massage is heavenly and very healing.
Teas, treats and soothing music all make this experience as fine as any Four Season or Ritz Carlton I’ve ever been to. The front desk rep, Elkie is as sweet and welcoming as can be! They even have a monthly membership club so you can save a few bucks.
The owner supports her local community and always has a smile to share. Can’t say enough positive things about how great I feel when I leave this spa!

I saw a Groupon for this place a while back and thought, ‘why not?’ Well, apparently it should have been a not.
First of all I booked an appointment for 4:30 pm on a Friday that their receptionist messed up on. When my mom and I arrived, we were rushed through our services like it was our fault. They were never available to do a manicure or pedicure when I called so I had to pick a day that wasn’t even convenient for us.
I don’t know about you but I go to get a pedicure and manicure to relax and that’s so challenging to do when the technicians do not stop talking for the entire appointment, especially rude comments about the local Vietnamese places.
While the pedicure was nice and the woman was great, the woman who did the manicure did not shut up about her boyfriend and her two other jobs at an office and a bowling alley bar. Seriously lady, I do not care about your other jobs. She also complained about the local Vietnamese places and the bad jobs they did, which was so ironic considering the manicure she did was awful! The nail wasn’t buffed and so the polish didn’t go on smoothly and it had chipped within an hour of leaving. She was constantly talking and then when I asked her to fix the polish, she just said «shit» and said she didn’t have time. She blamed it on the polish and was just so rude and obnoxious the whole time. I ended up having to go to my local ’ Vietnamese’ place, where I have never once had bad service, to get it fixed.
I really regret giving this place my money and if this review helps someone else from making the same mistake, great. I would not recommend this place if you want a relaxing experience. You can get much better service at a cheaper price someplace else.

Absolutely HORRIBLE.
I had been growing out my eyebrows for over a month so I can get them fixed. I found this place on groupon and decided to get their $ 15 special on a «eyebrow design».
When I arrived to the place, the lady at the front desk was very helpful, but when the other lady came to do my eyebrows, she could have AT LEAST faked a genuine smile, but she had a disgusted look on her face as if she did not want to serve me.
The room was relaxing, that was a plus.
NEGATIVE: This was no «eyebrow DESIGN» she said she was only going to clean up my eyebrows. WOW.
To top it all off. My eyebrows are COMPLETELY UNEVEN. I was so dissatisfied with the service, I said they were fine just so I could get out of there. I did NOT want her touching my eyebrows again.
I got much better results at my cheap salon in Highland Park for HALF the price of this crappy job.
I never post reviews on Unilocal,but I am just so angry with the results and as I was looking at my eyebrows in the mirror, I just had to post this review.
My eyebrows now look like UNSHAPED BUSHES on my face. I am so unhappy. And I am NEVER coming back to this place, and I advice others to not get their eyebrows done here unless they want messed up eyebrows. You’re better off at a hole-​in-​the-​wall salon.

I came here two weeks ago for a facial and massage. The spa is clean and Elkie the receptionist was super nice when she greeted me. They have tea and cake in their waiting area.
Gina was my massage therapist and she was great! Before we started she asked me where I would like for her to focus. She also asked me what kind of work I do and when she learned I type a lot she made sure to focus on my hands and fingers. I enjoyed her massage alot and she even brought an extra heater when I told her I was cold.
Salua did my facial. The facial wasn’t bad but I wish she had spent some time analyzing my skin and making suggestions. I felt like she just jumped in which made me a little uncomfortable. I have acne prone skin and it can be sensitive to certain products. They use Eminence products, one of the few my skin actually enjoys. She did make my skin glow and I received several compliments. Like I said, the only thing was that I felt there was a bit of a lack in communication.
The paraffin treatment was great and left my hands feeling very soft. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back.
Also, my mom went today on my recommendation and she had Mari do her facial and LOVED it so maybe I’ll try her out next time. Overall, they have 2 very happy customers in our house and I would definitely recommend them.

Aside from it taking 30 minutes for me just to get here, the time I spent inside was well worth it.
When I first got in, I was greeted by the receptionist (Elkie, i think), Rita the owner and the lady who did my facial, Angela. They knew I was on a time crunch (I went on my lunch break –_​-​) and immediately started my service.
The room was sooo cute!!! Very cute and relaxing. Wasn’t too hot or cold. It was perfect. During my facial, I also got messaged, which is a first for me but I AM NOT complaining since I am a big fan of massages!
The products they used smells so good and its also organic which is a plus.
Angela was very sweet, we talked a bit and I told her I might fall asleep and as soon as I was relaxed, she stopped talking and just let me be.
Dozed off for a couple minutes. I must admit — Best way to spend my lunch hour :)
I would definitely come back, but not on my lunch so I can do a full hour :)

I came here because I bought a $ 30 Groupon for a facial. Originally $ 70 when I bought the Groupon but they hiked the price to $ 80 when I went for my visit. I also added a massage for 30% off if booked on the same day.
Arranging the appointment was a little crazy because their business hours close early (6PM during the week and they are closed Sundays and Mondays). Availability was also limited because the Groupon was expiring soon. My first scheduled appointment had to be rescheduled because the aesthetician got sick. I spoke with Elkie (sp?) a couple times and she was very friend and tried to accommodate me on the day I wanted to go.
I finally went this past Friday and had a refreshing and relaxing experience. I got there early and I was offered tea, they also had cookies in the waiting area. A little after my appointment time I was greeted by Rita who did my facial. The facials here are custom depending on your skin type and they use all organic products. Rita was never harsh during the facial, even through the extractions. She doesn’t use an extraction tool which make it all the more painful. After that was over she used a couple scrubs and lotions that had wonderful scents. It was very calming and I even fell asleep for a couple of minutes.
She woke me up when it was done and told me Gina my masseuse would be in soon and that I needed to just remove my top. I thought that was a little strange for a massage but I did it anyway. Gina was great throughout the massage and she worked on all the knots I had on my back. One complaint I had was that Gina’s shoes made some noise on the hardwood floors while she was moving around. Then after that I started to hear the ticking of the clock and it wouldn’t go away! Even the soothing music they played couldn’t drown out the ticking. The only good thing was that I noticed it when my massage was almost done. It definitely would have ruined the massage if I heard it from the beginning.
Overall I had a good experience. They also didn’t push their product on me before I left, always a good sign. Total spent minus tip was $ 86. Even though they raised the prices that was still a good deal. If I lived closer I’d come back.
FYI: This area is a dead zone for AT&T!

Butterfly Effect is the place to go if you want quality facials & massages at amazing pricing. I’m a very experienced spa-​goer and I purposely book business meetings in San Gabriel Valley just so I have an excuse to come in for a treatment.
I come monthly for lash extensions, which are really natural-​looking. They never look clumpy or over the top, but are really worth it for those who have pathetically stumpy lashes like I do it. They make a huge difference in emphasizing my eyes in pictures.
I’ve splurged on the occassional facial, and recently a massage. They seem to only hire very good people because every service has been high-​quality and comparable to the fancy spas.
The spa has a very inviting, tranquil vibe to it… exactly what you’d expect when you’re going for pampering. Nice environment, great customer service, excellent prices… there’s no reason to go anywhere else.

WOW. This place rocks. I got a great deal from Groupon for a facial and decided to add on a massage (it’s 30% off if you book another service on the same day, so the massage was $ 49).
Rita did my facial and it was awesome. She was really sweet and thorough. She did some much needed extractions (ouch) and my face felt amazing after.
Kim was my massage therapist and she was SO sweet. I was already pretty relaxed from my facial and with Kim’s magic hands, I was asleep within the first 20 – 30 minutes. I tried so hard to stay awake to enjoy the massage but I just knocked out. I loved that I was able to stay in the same room for both services and the bed was nice and warm the entire time.
I love this place! I wish I had more money so I could visit more often. I will be definitely saving up for a massage or facial in the future.
They have «membership plan» thingy where it’s $ 59 per month for 1 facial or 1 massage. I’m not sure if you have to pay up front for a year or what. But it sounds fantastical.
