We believe that God, in his immeasurable love, has called us:
To love and serve Christ.
To love and serve one another in Christ.
To love and serve the world for Christ.
Come join us to glorify God in worship, serve God in mission, and grow in discipleship. We’d love to meet you!
St. Mark’s Episcopal is the Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Louisiana, and the sponsoring parish of St. Mark’s Episcopal School.
We are located at the corner of Kings Highway and Fairfield.
History
Established in 1850.
St. Marks’ Episcopal Church is the oldest religious body in the city of Shreveport. Founded during the Episcopate of the first Bishop of Louisiana, the Rt. Reverend Leonidas Polk. Bishop Polk held the first Christian service in Shreveport amid the very vocal and almost physical protests of a somewhat bawdy populace of 1839.
The first St. Mark’s Church stood at the intersection of Fannin and Market Streets. Its construction began in 1859, and it was formally consecrated in 1877.
In 1990 St. Mark’s became the Episcopal Cathedral of the Diocese of Western Louisiana.
St. Mark’s celebrated 150 years of history in 1991. Today it is a large majestic cathedral where ministry and mission are carried out by many faithful and committed believers. We are a place for worship and ministry — a place for fellowship, opportunity and spiritual growth.
