I have been a member of Planet Fitness and Anytime Fitness. This has to be one of the dirtiest gyms I’ve worked out in. Never seen anyone mopping or cleaning the locker room. Leaky roof and potholes in the parking lot. I’ve also seen management arguing with members.

I have been going to this gym for 4 years. 3 different owners have had this gym during that time. It is by far better now than it has been any other time. Over all This gym is for serious fitness, they won’t serve you pizza on any day or leave tootsie rolls nearby. They have a well trained staff that prides themselves in being professional and upbeat. They make rounds through the gym to be sure everyone is safe and comfortable in their surroundings. I really appreciate the effort they take to make me(a woman) feel safe while lifting in a weight room full of men. This gym stands above all the competition in this area by far. Reasonable prices, excellent childcare, perfect location, well trained staff, various classes, clean equipment and bathrooms, tanning bed, protein shake bar, brand new cardio equipment, a weight room with more than you can ask for, and most of all a friendly comfortable atmosphere.

I live in Austin and come to Shreveport a handful of times a year to see family and friends. I had to find a side gym for when I’m here to not lose my gym momentum. After trying others the last two years, I’ve been hitting Plex when I’m in town. I drive past other gyms to get to Plex. There’s a wide variety of weights, machines and cardio. If this gym was in Austin, it would be my gym. The staff is great. They have personality. Not just with me, but others I’ve seen coming in. To top off it all, the smoothies. The smoothies are really good.

Since I started coming back to Plex, I love it. It’s under new ownership and they have fixed the cardio equipment, got new treadmills, a summit which I love love love, got new tanning beds too. They also redid the lockers rooms with brand new carpet and sauna works great! On free weights side they have everything and more u possibly could need. Everybody is very friendly there too. Never have to wait on a machine.

If you are into lifting free weights, that part of the gym isn’t bad. The weights haven’t been updated in awhile, but it has everything you need and more. When I go into a gym, I judge it by how many squat racks they have. If a gym only has one squat rack, I know it’s a joke. The Plex has 2, plus a power rack, that’s usually always set up for squats. So, 3 squat racks = a winner. The Plex also has a pretty cool area for crossfit-type training. Kettlebells, ropes, heavy bags, jungle gym bars, medicine balls, turf to do sprints on, etc. Awesome little area that hardly ever gets used, oddly enough. The locker rooms are pretty bad. They clearly haven’t been updated in a decade or more. The sauna in the men’s locker room works sometimes, sometimes it doesn’t. In 6 months, I have never seen the steam room work once. They have 1 tanning bed in the men’s locker room, and the glass on the machine is broken up by your face. The bathroom has 2 urinals. 1 of them has been«out of order» for the entire 6 months I’ve been a member. It’s comical that it still hasn’t been repaired. The cardio section is badly outdated. Those machines are dinosaurs. The exercise bikes look like they’re from the 1990’s. The cybex machines in that area are also probably from the 1990’s as well. And about 80% of them have the pins missing. So if a few machines are in use, you need to wait till someone finishes, so you can steal the pin from their machine. Why they haven’t supplied new pins is puzzling. What can they cost, $ 5 each? They have a juice bar, which has some pretty awesome tasting protein shakes. $ 5 for all of them. Way better value than Smoothie King. And they taste better too. The staff is all really nice. All in all, it’s a gym that badly needs to be updated. They have ancient equipment, but it gets the job done, if you aren’t picky. The $ 14.99 per month price is one of the lowest I have ever seen, outside of a planet fitness(which are THE worst gyms in the history of mankind). It’s well worth the $ 14.99 price to be a member of The Plex, which is why I still continue to be a member. I’m not at all impressed with the Anytime Fitness gyms in the area, so I will continue to stick with Plex, and hope they fix/update their stuff soon. The gym itself is probably a 2 star gym, but the very nice staff and amazingly low price boost it up a bit.
