Fairfield Inn by Marriott

Brand new hotel with a Dwell designesque look. I almost never stay at Fairfield inn but this one is beautifully detailed clean and modern. The walk in shower is huge. Bed comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. The hotel is located on the outskirts of The first and oldest settlement under the Louisiana Purchase, Natchitoches, LA

First time at this Fairfield and thought it’d be a good idea after reading a few of the reviews. Turned out I was wrong.
Bed was hard and very uncomfortable, especially for a Marriott. Room smelled like mold and the air conditioner was noisy. Doesn’t look updated to some of the other Fairfield Marriotts I’ve stayed in.

Stayed here during family reunion. Very helpful and friendly staff. Room was clean, decent amenities (comp. breakfast, pool…) and there’s a Walmart right across the street! My only issue is the CURTAIN situation.
The heavy curtain does not close; therefore the parking lot lights, car headlights, etc. shine through all night long. And while dressing, I’m pretty sure that since I can see out the sheer curtain that people walking by can see in. Just weird?!
* Suggestion: please install blinds or curtains that cover the window

Contrary to prior reviews, I really enjoyed my 2-​night stay here at the Fairfield. This location is far from old or having outdated furniture/​amenities. Sorry haters, I just didn’t see it here. The room was very comfortable, and the amenities (both pool & exercise room) met my expectations. The continental breakfast of waffles, eggs, biscuits & gravy + cereal choices were sufficient, and the coffee stayed fairly fresh for the entirety of the day when I was in and out of the hotel.
If I had any complaints, it would be the close proximity this Fairfield is to WalMart. That can be a good or bad thing. The good is the convenience of walking to Walmart to get anything that you need, yet bad when it comes down to the traffic that ensues during busy days. Gotta pick your poison with this one. There is a Murphy Gas right in the front of the hotel, which is actually a very good convenience for the weary traveler. There is also a Cracker Barrel that is two blocks away, as well as Nicky’s Mexican Cantina (one block) for those that want food within walking distance. In addition, this Fairfield seems to be a popular stayover for airline employees and those travelers that are experiencing extended layovers.
The management & staff of this location are very accommodating when it comes to special requests, and I didn’t have any issues. I normally stay at the Residence Inn off of Monkhouse Drive (sold out this week), yet I could stay here again without any worries.

Worst nights sleep since rocket attacks in Afghanistan. Let that one sink in for a minute. In short, I can hear the highway as if I were laying in the center lane trying to sleep. I thought the window might be open or cracked, but no luck in trying to shut it. On top of that, there is no such thing as a thick set of blinds to pull across the window and instead you battle the bright lights of your parking lot all night long. Don’t bother turning on your lights at 2 in the morning when you wake up, you can see just fine by the outside lights.
The secondary issues with this hotel are trivial to not being able to sleep all night. Walked into the room and immediately noticed the mirror set on a crooked angle– I think that just speaks to the attention to detail that’s seriously lacking. The shower isn’t «grimy» necessarily, but it’s so old that most definitely needs to be replaced. Everything else in the room also needs to be updated and replaced before I ever give this place a second thought.
And finally– for anybody who is traveling and wants to get on the road, the breakfast here doesn’t start until 7…

If you are accustomed to the quality of Fairfield Inn/​Marriott properties, you will wonder what happened at this property! I am a loyal Marriott customer and frequently stay at Fairfield Inn when traveling on business. I recently stayed at this location while traveling back from vacation. I honestly cannot believe Marriott allows this place to bear it’s name! It is an older property that appears not to have been updated. EVER! The furniture in our room was old, cheap, and had stains all over it. The carpeting was disgusting. The whole place was dirty. Had it not been the middle of the night when we checked in, we would never have stayed here. The one positive experience we had was with the friendly staff. This is the reason for two stars instead of one. However, I would never stay here again and would not recommend it to others either.

Staff at hotel were friendly and made us feel welcome. The room was clean even though there are signs of wear and tear. On the downside, there were:
1) The bathroom sink plunger was broken.
2) There were no cups for water in the gym.
3) There were no towels in the gym.
We rate this hotel C– because downside items were controllable by the management.

This place is reasonable. Clean rooms, good staff. The only thing I would like to see them do is upgrade the fitness room with some weights, and replace that outdated equipment…

Like the other reviewer — it’s much like every other Fairfield Inn (which I appreciate). Our room did smell a bit musty (it’s Shreveport people — humid as hell), but other than that, the rooms were very clean. Beds were more comfortable than usual and when I asked for an extra blanket I was accommodated. I hate that unless you stay in a Marriott Hotel, you don’t get the good thick comforters like in a Hilton property.
Didn’t have breakfast, but overall our experience was nice. Only complaint — only 1 elevator to use. It’s ok, we used the stairs.

I’m really not a fan. I stayed here a week. The first night they put me in a room that smelled like smoke. I waited to switch rooms because their computer system wasn’t working properly. I switched the next day and when I got into bed I found out that the sheet were ripped by the elastic an do not stay on the bed. It was an uncomfortable night. That was the end of the room change issues. My other issues are smaller, but inconvenient after you come home from work. The maid would not clean my ice bucket. I would have to dump out the water and go back downstairs to get a new bag. Some might call whining, but it is a convenience I am paying for. Aside from that the bathroom had little flecks of back stuff around the edges. Just a note. I didn’t really care enough to being it up. Just one more thing that just wasn’t done right.

Overall, this Fairfield Inn isn’t much different than many other Fairfields around the country. They all follow a standard routine – located along or near an interstate or busy highway, similar rooms and design, flat screen TVs, Books of Mormon accompanying the Gideon bible in each room. It works. I wouldn’t stay at any Fairfield looking for something spectacular, but you can get reliable, clean rooms and service at most of their hotels.
The Shreveport Fairfield was pretty nice; I was given a room with handicapped facilities as there were few other rooms available when I dropped by. The facilities looked good, as well.
I do have a few minor nitpicks with this particular hotel. First, the railings in the bathroom showed their age – this wasn’t a problem for me, but it could be a potential issue if a handicapped person visits. Second, I found the continental breakfast to be lacking; granted, it has been a few years since I’ve stayed at a Marriott hotel, but compared to other hotels of similar caliber (such as Holiday Inn Express), it is a bit mediocre. Another reviewer mentioned a tip jar in the dining room – I did notice this, but it didn’t bother me, although, in retrospect, it is a bit weird to have one. Third, while I was able to cancel/​alter my reservation after I didn’t need to stay at the hotel for as long as I initially thought, it was a bit harder to do it at this Fairfield, although many other Fairfields and other hotels give you until about 5 or 6 PM to cancel. It could have been a bigger problem, but, luckily, it wasn’t.

The pricing was fine the room was fairly clean but overall not satisfied. It was the little things and maybe I am a bit picky But… I don’t like the body hair of others in my shower or on my toilet when I check in. This was twice… we had to stay here for both parts of the trip.
The windows were super thin. They «upgraded» and remodeled in 2008 but I believe they saved money on the windows. I could hear every car and every noise outside the room. This makes it really hard when travelling with a 3 year old and an infant. They hear everything, or so it seems.
Another thing that bothered me was the Tip jar at the breakast bar. I travel quite a bit and prefer to use Marriot Hotels also search out Hotels who serve breakfast. That is an incentive for me to use their services. I haven’t seen a tip jar at any other location I have stayed at. I found this tacky and unproffessional. Especially when this particular breakfast bar served pre-​made food. Rolls, bagels, cereal, frozen breakfast sandwhiches. There were boiled eggs and biscuits so maybe that counts for a tip. But McDonals does that and they don’t have a tip jar. Unless you count the box for Jerry’s kids?
Overall the people were nice (little interaction) but I am not a fan of this location. The beds were just «ok» with matching pillows.

Price good, noisy people & maids, bad coffee, poor beds. No return for us.

Ok place to stay. They even have free breakfast… continental style.

This is a clean and fine hotel to stay in while on a road trip. The beds are big and compfy. The Bathroom is small and actually the worst part of the stay. The front desk gal was nice and the location is nice being near a cracker barrel, Mexican food, and a WalMart. I’ve stayed here 4 times before.
