Kindred Nursing & Rehabilitation

Arden is a great place due in large part to its outstanding administrator Ken Bloomstein. I worked with him for five years at another facility when he was the administrator there. He was one of the best leaders I have ever worked for. He cared about the patients, the staff and the facility often donating his own time and materials to improve the surroundings. He picked me and other employees up several times in a snowstorm so we could safely get to and from work. I am sure the staff at Arden appreciates his style and it is reflected in how they take care of the patients.

Waking up from a three week coma after a brain aneurysm and stroke, the neurologists and doctors at the hospital were concerned that I be placed in a facility that had the highest standards of care. They wanted my remarkable progress to continue and for physical and cognitive therapy rehabilitation to be incorporated into my daily routine. They placed me at Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation — Arden on Aurora Ave.
There, I received friendly, focused primary care from a staff of nurses, aides and rehab therapists that quickly had me up and back on my feet in three short weeks. From the nurses, who handle your overall medical care, to the friendly, fun yet respectful aides, who handle your day to day care to the outstanding physical, speech, cognitive and other therapists, who work on getting you back to operating in the real world, the staff is unrivaled. The social workers listen and allow you independence in alignment with your overall care plan.
It was my first experience at a nursing and rehabilitation center and to this day, I still return to visit friends made in my time there and to welcome new faces. I would want my relatives to live there.

My fiancé was involved in a very serious motorcycle accident and was relocated here after being in ICU at Harborview. We spent many months together at Arden. The care and specialization in Physical Therapy that Arden has was important for his full recovery. Every CNA and RN there was caring, hard working, and most of all made us both feel comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation. I would spend many of my nights next to him in a room at Arden and would even wake up to my own cup of coffee even though I was not a patient. They even let me have my own bed. They also cared strongly about our privacy. The occupational and physical therapists made it all possible for my fiancé to come back home. Although he is still on the path to recovery, we feel blessed that Arden was there to help him come this far. Thank you to everyone at Arden who helped us during the worst part of our lives.

When my mom, who suffers from severe dementia, broke her hip in her ADF & had partial replacement surgery, I was overwhelmed at the thought of placing her in any large skilled nursing facility. I spent hours upon hours reading reviews, hoping to find something, anything but the generic Medicare reviews for SkNF and rehabs. Something from a daughter or son, or any family member who could reassure me in my grief & fear that my mom would be safe and well cared for, away from the horror stories & stereotypes you hear about nursing homes. I didn’t find much, which is why I am writing this review for the next loved one to find if they’re unfortunate enough to need this kind of care.
The building is older, but very clean. Lovely courtyards. No funny «nursing home» smells or bad energy whatsoever. The important part is that the majority of the staff is top-​notch, from reception to nurses & aides & the director, and the therapies are wonderful — PT, OT, Speech Therapy, etc. I was there daily visiting my mom (still am), and the care she has received is so excellent that I felt safe and relieved enough to move her into the long term wing as it became necessary.
It doesn’t remove any of the sadness and heartbreak of the situation, but for anyone who is looking for a SkNF for their family member, the fear at leaving them at someone else’s mercy when they cannot care for themselves and aren’t oriented is the worst feeling in the world. I am very relieved & pleased at the care my mom receives at Arden.
Most of the staff has been there for many years, and it’s a family-​like atmosphere. Not only is the therapy high quality, but they get all of the long term patients up & out to participate in activities & socialization — no laying in bed in the rooms unless it’s medically necessary.
Since my mom arrived there from her ADF, her health has actually improved from before she broke her hip! She has put on weight, her color is good and her attitude is so much more positive. NOTHING is going to seem like the same kind of care that you can give yourself, but when your parents’ needs become such that you need a facility, Arden can be trusted and applauded to come darn close.
