Apex Appliance Service

I was having trouble finding a replacement bulb for the surface light on my old GE stove. I called Apex and he knew exactly what I needed and had one in stock. I drove over and picked it up and it’s working great. Very pleasant transaction. Making a note of the name so I know where to go next time I need help!

This is really a 2.5 star review. I eventually rounded down based on realizing I have hard feelings about our transaction.
The pros:
They came when they said they would.
I am confident the repair person knew what he was doing.
My dryer and fridge seem to be working as designed
The cons:
It took about a week to get an appointment.
I don’t mind providing a card in advance, but they couldn’t give me any indication of how much the work would cost
The service person couldn’t tell me, when he was done, how much I had spent. I had to wait for the bill. This is a bullshit process for many obvious reasons.
It was really pretty expensive. It took 90 minutes start to finish — most of that was him using a steamer to unfreeze a sheet of ice. They replaced a six inch piece of tubing and a plastic pulley that they probably paid five dollars for. My bill was 261.33 before tax. They charged me 21.38 for a pulley I probably could have gotten at Lowes RETAIL for next to free.
Service call was 89.95. Labor was 100.00. Additional service (basically another labor charge) was 50.00 and that pulley for 21.38. 240.00 for 90 minutes labor?
Sorry — that is a pretty unreasonable deal. Probably this is why they would not tell me in advance how much the repairs would cost.
Lots of options out there. I will use someone else next time. I try to give my money to small businesses — maybe that is a mistake in this instance.

Morals. Important but often missing nowadays. But this place still has them. I called around today for a certain rare refrigerator part and everyone I called said, «Nope, but we can order one in». Days before Christmas and food getting warm this was not gonna work, had to find one. Called these guys and they said they also did not have one. Right when I was ready to hear him say he could order one, he nicely said that his competitor down the street probably has one, AND GAVE ME HIS NUMBER ! I will always look to these guys first from now on… because of their morals.

We really appreciate Apex. They point us in the right direction with all of our DIY repairs (stove, refrigerator, dryer, and more…). The price is reasonable, and they have saved us $$ several times by pointing us toward generic alternatives to the name-​brand parts.

Dishwasher was having some issues and I found this place local to me on Unilocal.They had a technician come out and take a look. He figured out it was the instrument panel and ordered a replacement, when it came it they scheduled another appointment to do the swap. Their prices were good and they got the part for cheaper than I could find it online. Next time an appliance goes out I’ll be contacting them.

Apex Appliance is awesome. I had an exhaust fan motor go out over the stove, probably original to the house in 1955. None of the box stores had anything like it, and upgrading would have required demolition and remodel to install an expensive hood. Apex had the proper motor on their shelves, so I was able to fix the problem and save the remodel for when a remodel is actually desired. Thanks, Apex.

Our oven baking element went out Friday night. So I called one of the big box store’s to get a replacement. I remember when that was an option. They informed me that they no longer carried them but that a store down the road probably did, but they were not open on the weekend. So Monday I called and they had the part and would hold it for me. Picked it up and got some good advice on how to proceed with the replacement. It was information that I was aware of but they took their time just in case. Got home and had it in and working after less than 15minutes.

Fast and efficient repairs. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for.

After calling 6+ repair companies and maintenance contractors about my malfunctioning dryer, I was thrilled to finally speak to some knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The guy I spoke with diagnosed the problem from my over-​the-​phone description, gave me a fair and complete estimate and helped find a two hour service window that met my needs. His rep would come to my home with the parts he anticipated would be needed for the repair. This experience was head and shoulders about others I spoke to that said «they could probably come out at X time» or «well, I’ll have to come out and see it and then I might need to order parts and come back on another day». The repair was going to be expensive, and I needed to think about whether it made sense to replace the entire inexpensive quality, stackable 7-​year old unit or take my chances that the dryer repair would be the only fix needed for a long time.
I called back a few days later to inquire about used/​reconditioned units and had a very positive experience with the guy I spoke with in sales. He had a stackable that he was reconditioning and could delivery it the following week.
In the end, my landlord decided to purchase a new stackable W/​D instead of repairing the old one (so Apex did not do the repair or sell me a used unit), but I wouldn’t hesitate to refer Apex to other people with appliance repair needs. Even when I cancelled the repair appointment, they were friendly and helpful on the phone.

They didn’t have the part I needed in stock, but such great service from Bob in the parts department! Apex is definitely aptly named; they are now at the top of my list next time I have an appliance need.

Great customer service, Valdo especially and excellent technicians. Have used these guys many times.

Hmmmm… who knew this place was so close to my house? Not me. I used to have a regular place I went to for parts but they closed. The bigger chains may have products but their sales folks tend to be less than knowledgeable. I did a handy dandy search on Unilocal and Apex came up and of course, it was located in a strip mall that I go by constantly and is next to a number of businesses that I frequent. Duh!
I had some electrical problems last week. In fact, most of my block did and there was some talk about some kind of massive surge that impacted nearly everyone in single family dwellings. In my case, my dryer broke. Luckily, it was just a fuse. Just a fuse? My partner insisted that we go to another store first. Fine. When we got there not only did they not have the part, but they recommended Apex. Boom. I got to give the whole «I told you that Unilocal is where it’s at» speech. Again.
I found the staff members helpful, friendly, and likable. My partner engaged the sales person in a conversation about what happened and I liked that he attempted to very softly, help to verify that was the problem by asking questions. He wasn’t being pushy, bossy, or condescending but seemed genuinely concerned that it was accurately diagnosed so that we bought the right part. It was exactly what we needed. Quite the gem of a place hiding in plain sight in my neighborhood. I love!

I needed a refrigerator repair to come take a look at my fridge. I used Unilocal to find a repair place close to me with good reviews and Apex came up. I called and explained my problem and asked if it was fixable. They guy on the phone told me what he thinks the problem is and explained the repair as well as the cost, then he also gave me worst-​case scenario. I was able to get an appointment first thing the next morning.
They guy that showed up arrived early and even called ahead. He was polite and wasted no time finding the problem and fixing it. When he was done he explained everything that he had done. He told me to call back if I have any more problems.

We used Apex a few times and the service techs are fine. The customer service department, however, is really lacking. Communication is not clear and requests are not followed though with consistently. Also, the guy in charge of the department calls repeatedly with different quotes because he made an error and needs to correct himself.
The main thing that I really did not like is that they ask for credit card numbers and then they store this information in their system long term and then run it through without checking. I found this out by accident when I asked for a paper bill to be mailed to me. Instead, I get a phone call saying that «your credit card expired for some reason.» That reason is probably due to the fact that I used their services almost three years prior and they had my credit card info in their system all that time. When I called them out on it, the customer service rep totally changed the subject and then reprimanded me for daring to request a paper bill.
This is not a service that neither I nor most others use on a regular basis so they have absolutely no reason to store our info for years on end. I will be looking for someone else in the future who is more flexible with their payment procedures.

The guy told me it would take two days before they could get to me. Ok, fine. He took down my name, address, etc then said he needed a credit card number. When I asked why, he said, «That’s the way we do business.» I found someone else who came out that same evening and fixed the problem. No credit card required.

Very satisfied with the repair service performed on the dishwasher and washer/​dryer in my Belltown condo. The service was friendly, professional, and on-​time for both visits (first visit to diagnose problems, second to bring parts and perform repairs). For my washer/​dryer, they were able to get some parts that are no longer made (and I had previously searched for online). After the first visit, I was called and given the exact total cost for the parts and repairs. The service guy did a great job and fixed a couple problems I didn’t even ask about. My appliances are working great now.

Add another satisfied customer. I was looking for a part for a dishwasher — only Apex could get me the part on the same day and they went out of their way to call me back with a cheaper option. Special cheers to Valdo for taking the extra time and effort to provide great service!

I didn’t expect to find so many glowing reviews. even though they deserve it. I thought I’d discovered this place all by myself!
After an exhaustive internet search for a small shelf support peg for my Whirlpool refrigerator, I finally ordered one from a NY parts house. They were the least expensive in the range of $ 17 – 27 for this little screw-​like piece of plastic. It seemed particularly absurd that this little piece was so expensive, but without it, the refrigerator bin was useless. Then I decided to renew my search for a local source.
I had actually dreamed about how to replace the part, which had proved reluctant to separate from the refrigerator liner wall.
Somehow, after rejecting other expensive options, the bread crumbs led me to Apex and I gave them a call. By the time I hung up, the salesperson and I were laughing together as he tried to get the exact specifications from me. Same price, but no wait. They put one on hold and I drove up to the shop.
I tried to figure out which guy had talked to me on the phone, as I had really appreciated his patience and humor. Meanwhile, someone looked up my order, glanced at the invoice and said: «That’s ridiculous!» I knew he was referring to the price when he said he wanted to look through the parts to see if he had something else. He commented that Whirlpool used to be a great company to deal with, but in his eyes they had fallen from grace.
In a minute or 2, he came back to the counter, compared his new find with the Whirlpool part (they are identical) and said: «How about $ 5.95?»
They have earned my undying loyalty.

At 3:00 today —
I called and talked to Jim to find out getting repair for my Maytag washer — the service guy, Jim, on the phone asked if I knew the model # to see if parts were still available for washer which is now defunct by co. Maytag that was bought by Whirlpool. He helped me troubleshoot after hearing my problem with the washer — «syphoning and hose problem to trigger the «syphon switch»?
I thought the phone service was very helpful… now I need to do my part.
1) He gave me estimate of «possible» fix if replacing the timer was truly the problem… they’d have to come out and look … $ 150 for the part??? don’t know if that included service.
2) OR do I need to call a plumber and get the right hoses (corrugated OR rubber) we want rubber! … for the water release hoses… probably need the plumber to come and clean out my pipes!
I’m glad he was helping me on the phone before having to call them out to find out the problem and being charged… I call this good pre-​service.
3) OR I’ll see if I want to buy a new one or fix this 15 yr. old washer.

UPDATE 4:30 p.m. -
After running different programs on the washer and describing my problem, I’ve decided to use Jim’s recommendation and call Raymark (plumber) to come out and trouble shoot the «rinse /​syphon» drain problem.
IF this is the solution — then I say KUDOS to JIM for GREAT SERVICE! I will definitely use them again.

The owner, Bob and the other two men I dealt with through the course of ordering my part for my range were all helpful and courteous. When I called in (twice) to talk to someone about the part I would need, I was helped and felt like I was valued as a customer.
I explained to the man on the phone that I intended to install the part myself and he didn’t pressure me to buy their service. When I picked up the part, one of the men told me I could call the shop if I had trouble installing it myself. Very nice of them!
The price for the part was comparable to online prices and the part came in same-​day which was a BIG BONUS!
Tip: The electronic parts are non-​returnable once they have been installed. If the part you order is packaged incorrectly they will exchange for the correct part. If you give them the model # and part # there is no reason you should receive an incorrect part.
Thanks Apex for making my oven part shopping as painless as could be! I’ll keep you in mind for the next time I need a part or service. The employees were very friendly and I appreciated their customer service.
