A Place For Me Preschool & Childcare

We interviewed a few (ok more like 6) childcare/​preschools prior to going to a place for me. The reason we chose A Place For Me is because of the cozy home type feeling but with a structured safe environment. They are also flexible with our child’s needs when it comes to her eating/​nap schedule which was very important to my husband and I. A Place For Me has been wonderful for my toddler. We have been going since our little one was 5 months old and will continue to go there until she’s done with preschool. The teachers are very kind to all the students and make sure each student individually feels special. Our toddler brings home artwork she is very proud of, is always happy to be dropped off and is in a great mood when we pick her up. Tiffany, Marcie, Nana (Frankie), Debbie and Mindy have all individually made a big impact on our child’s development and encourages her learning and motor skills. When she started walking it was almost as if their own children started walking, they were all so excited and proud of her. As first time parents picking childcare was very scary to us and we didn’t know what to expect, now looking back we couldn’t be more happy with our decision.

I hate to only give 2 stars but childcare is something I hold near and dear to my heart and have very high expectations for any childcare center. I started my 2 children here just part time. The center had just recently opened and seemed wonderful. The owner and director were knowledgable and friendly, the staff seemed caring and responsible. The rates were higher in comparison to other preschools in the area but I was willing to pay higher for better quality. After about a month in care my daughter stopped wanting to go, she would cry and cry and try to run after me when I left. Her previous preschool she never did this (we relocated thus placing her at A Place for Me). Anyway I figured since A Place for Me was new and growing their staff was expanding and there were a lot of new faces and possibly that overwhelmed my daughter. I kept bringing her against her will. She started peeing her pants at school… after over a year accident free. The first time it happened told me the teacher wouldn’t let her go potty because it wasn’t potty time and she couldn’t hold it so had an accident. Her behavior at home worsened and the battle of going to school continued (she was 3)! I started wondering if I had made the right choice in preschools. It wasn’t cheap sending my two here (my son never had a problem was just always sick… and hardly ever got sick before attending). Not really related but we had some financial stuff going on in our personal life and money was a little tight so preschool was a luxury for us. I ended up deciding to pull my kids out after about 10 weeks in care. My plan was to reenroll them once our financial situation changed but once pulling them out I realized it really wasn’t a good match for them. The things my 3.5 year old would say about what her teachers told her «your naughty» «your mean» made me realize she was having accidents and not wanting to go to school because the environment was not emotionally supportive in the way it should be. Having a degree in Child Development I knew my daughter was showing signs of stress but related it to all the changes taking place in the environment not the environment itself (if that makes sense). After leaving my son has hardly gotten sick (even though he is around other kids) and my daughter has settled back into a love for preschool elsewhere. From an academic stand point A Place for Me was great but at an infant/​toddler, preschool level academics is such a small part… the warm, caring, emotional connection was lacking for my children.
