Vehicle Emission Testing Stations

One stop gets it all done! They accept debit and credit unlike DMV and usually takes 15 minutes or less and your good to go for a couple years. Fill out your renewal form before you get there. If you have an address change you will have to stop at DMV. I accidentally left my ID there one time and DEQ was prompt to call my home and let me know.

Quickly made it through the line and the service was amazing! This was our first time using this DEQ and Hillsboro can definitely learn from them!!!

A five star experience at the DEQ? Yes, it’s true! I visited mid-​morning on a Wednesday (after once again turning at the DMV by mistake, despite Siri’s protests. Note: they are not at the same location). The vehicle line moved so quickly that I barely had a chance to dig my insurance card out of the glove box. I was immediately directed to the waiting area by one attendant while another scanned my car’s VIN. Inside, I was greeted by a friendly clerk, who let me know that my car had passed the test and rung me up while I was still getting my credit card out to pay. I’d say six minutes total time from the front gate to the exit. Impressive and appreciated!

I love this place, so much easier and cheaper than getting a smog check back in Cali. They are really nice and they work pretty fast too, easy!

Both Sherry and Shelly were very helpful and super friendly. Four lines and four technicians make this less than pleasurable experience quick and relatively painless. Requirements being requirements, I would recommend this location simply for the wonderful people working here.

They now tell you to which lane to go when you drive in, so there’s no more pick-​a-​lane mystery segment to the brief and nearly painless chore of getting your car approved here.

Fast, Friendly, and Efficient.
The DMV should really learn something from these people. So, yeah it’s a place I am totally required to go and seek a service from. You would think they wouldn’t care about providing good friendly service since they have a monopoly. They smile and offer you advice and point you in the right direction. If there’s a form you might need they let you know.
If we’re still required to have Emission tests in four years, I know this place will provide the same friendly experience. I really don’t know how some cars are legally on the road today. So many old cars and trucks are spewing horrible exhaust. I know some counties don’t require people to get emission tests. Whatever man. Nothing makes sense to me regarding state and county laws.
Now if the DEQ would just hand out ice cream cones. .. .. .

They are closed on Mondays! So came here on a Tuesday and surprised that I waited in line for 30 minutes. As soon as it was my turn, it took 5 minutes and I was on my way. Fast service but not the line of people waiting.

No Lines today.
Very friendly folks, hardly a line when I tackle this chore every two years.
DEQ/​DMV regis. getting more and more expensive every year. Oh well.

It’s the DEQ. not much to say. T he staff is friendly, the lines only kind of suck. but it doesn’t smell have the faint smell of pee like the DMV.

No one ever gets excited about the DMV, but knowing that I can get my vehicle registration needs and DEQ testing taken care of at this one location in Sherwood makes the experience a little less dreaded. I have gone through the process here twice and I can say that the lines are always short and the staff is friendly and efficient. Plus, this location is easy to enter and exit and I would guess that it is a bit less busy than other DEQ locations in the metro area. I’m glad this one is only 15 minutes from my house!
Also, they are open late on Wednesdays if you can’t make it during the regular hours.

My car passed the DEQ test. I didn’t care about waiting in line in the warm sun and rolling at a snails pace.

This place is easy to get in and out with a several drive-​thru lanes. The process was quick and easy, I was done in 5 minutes for the DEQ test and fee, plus paying for my registration renewal.

It’s pretty easy to get in and out of this testing center and it’s easy to get to if you live in SW Portland, which is why I go here.
I recommend calling ahead, though. I went last Friday during the hours they stated they were open bu they were closed for an employee training day. This was not listed on DEQ’s website for their holiday and special closures. I don’t drive much and it seems to defeat the purpose of driving all the way to Sherwood just to turn around and go back home with nothing to show for it.
So I went again yesterday.
I bought my car used three years ago and the first time I went through the DEQ their machine couldn’t read the emissions. It’s a 2001 VW Cabrio and is a relatively clean car for not being a hybrid or electric. Still, they refused to pass me without their machine. Per their suggestion, I went to a mechanic who told me they had no clue. Panicked, I called the previous owners who told me to pull the fuse for the stereo. I did and everything went smoothly.
So yesterday, I came prepared. I removed the fuse before I came to the testing center. But they couldn’t get a reading. They were scoffing at my after market stereo. They told me that they couldn’t help and when I asked what I should do I was told to take it to a mechanic or pull the harness from my radio out. Then a guy said I might try it with the fuse in there so I put the fuse back in. Even though it took me less than a minute, they were annoyed I didn’t go to the back of the line and were rude for the rest of the transaction.
Mission accomplished, I have new shiny pink ’13 tags… I just wish the closure had been listed under «closures» on the site and that they hadn’t gotten annoyed with me. They are probably graded on efficiency, how many vehicles they get through there, not how many that pass… and the way it’s set up one car can end up blocking two bays if they have to use different handheld meters. Still.

DEQ Vehicle Emission Testing Station in Sherwood has a great staff. They make the process easy and I can pay for my registration renewal as well; this is a great bonus. I support the monitoring of our vehicle emissions and making everyone comply with the practice. Keep up the good work everyone!
