The staff after being seated was nice and the service was fast but the waiting before seating was ridiculous especially after being seated where there were an abundance of open seats. I think it may had been sort of the bar area. It was where the big screen is. The area was fine and my daughter and I enjoyed it but why did it take 40 min to get there when no one left from there in the time we were waiting. They need a better seating system. Onto the food. The veggie chili was so bland I refused to waste the calorie intake on it. The buffalo cauliflower would have been really good if the cheese inside was cooked more. My daughter who is a chef said her burger was good so I’d give it another try.

This place is such a fun spot in the valley! There’s valet parking in the parking structure behind it, if you don’t find street parking. The beer selection is great! Staff is friendly and they text you when your table is ready if there is a wait. I had the Bangers and Mash and it was delicious! My friend had the Poblano chile dish which was also delicious but spicy if you have a tender tongue. If you work in the area and are looking for a fun lunch place, go here. If you live in the area and want a fun dinner and drink spot, come here!

So I went in tonight for my friends birthday and I have to say the food tasted so much better!!! So I ordered the huntsman burger and that was so delicious. The fries was amazing as well. However why not 5 stars because the drink was still water down. Overall great service and food!!! Love the games

The parking situation does suck, but I am happy to park closeby and walk over than deal with the parking garage. Got here for brunch and this was my first experience eating at a PS while it was not after work/happy hour. The banana bread pudding french toast was easily in top 5 of things I have eaten for for breakfast. It wasn’t too sweet and you get a lot of bang for your buck. Our table also shared the buffalo cauliflower and the bacon/cheddar tots as well. The tots kind of fall apart so be careful! Great service and heated lamps if you sit outside. Can’t wait to come back and try the jidori chicken and waffle.

Hands down one of my favorite places to hangout and eat great food in the valley! Our sever Bojan was wonderful, and hosts are so sweet and so accommodating. I specifically remember one of the hosts Nicole because she was so friendly and sweet and made our wait for a table very pleasant. On top of the wonderful service, the food is absolutely delicious! I had the Jidori Chicken and Waffles and seriously… it was the best thing I’ve ever had for«breakfast». Great atmosphere, great food!

This was our first and last time at Public School. While the food and drinks were great and the service was excellent, the parking garage attendants are very rude and unreasonable. This review is only for the parking garage and its employees. When we arrived at the parking garage, the attendant told us it was 90 minutes free parking. We left the restaurant 92 minutes later and they firmly wanted to charge us $ 1.50 for parking and of course they only accept CASH and don’t have their own ATM! I had to walk across the street to take cash out from the gas stations ATM, the service charge cost more than our parking space. When I returned to the attendant I asked if they normally accept cards or if it’s always cash only. He told me it is always cash only. I politely stated that it would have been nice if the attendant that took our car explained that to us before we went into the restaurant. He laughed at me and pointed to the sign behind his chair that we wouldn’t have seen anyway. I told him we didn’t see any signs and started to walk away when he «the restaurant knows it’s cash only, you can always eat somewhere else» So we will. There are plenty of other great places to eat in the SFV that don’t charge for parking.

Been dying to try this place out & came here for the first time today! Finally! Four stars are for the servers, food and drinks! The guys were really nice & the food was tasty & lovely! The missing star is for the douche bags in the parking lot, which I hate to do because they’re not part of the restaurant, but… the restaurant should know what their customers are dealing with. I came two minutes late to their 90 minutes free lot & didn’t honor my stamped ticket. I asked if they could accept my card for the $ 1.50 and they flat out said NO. ONLYCASHORCHECKS! Who the heck still uses checks!!! I had to walk a few blocks to get them $ 1.50 from an ATM which I had to pay $ 2.50 to use. TWOMINUTES! At least be polite about it! Unless I can park in the street, I’m not coming back here again, which blows gigantic whale penis because I did really enjoy the establishment! But I refuse to park in that structure again.

It sucks that I ‘have’ to choose the one star! This place kinda sucked before tonight. But tonight’s dinner and service confirmed the suck factor! Let’s start with it taking forever to get our drinks. Then the Manhattans we ordered were way too sweet. Over priced and gross. We made the huge mistake and ordered the prefix dinner option. Way bad. The crock of chilli was bleh at best. I had the bison burger, not bad. Was actually decent. My bf had the lamb bolognese. It looked greasy. He said it was kinda gross. Didn’t finish it that’s for sure Then dessert. We both had the stout chocolate cake thingy. So damn DRY and gross! Like eating a spoonful of plain cocoa mix. Felt like it was gonna get stuck in my throat. Tonight’s adventure definitely confirmed my opinion of this place — won’t be back and I look forward to the day it’s gone and replaced.

Our server Bojan(pronounced boy-on) hooked us up tonight! School was out so we came for recess. We had a few well drinks, buffafo cauliflower, naked chicken, quinoa salad minus the chicken, truffle fries, & ahi tuna tacos & speck & eggs. Everything was pretty decent except the tuna tacos… tasted very fishy which was unsuccessfully covered up w/lemon. Bojan took the tacos back & we got mini sliders instead; my personal fav out of everything that we ordered, very tasty & juicy. After we were done we played a lil human sized jenga & darts. Pretty cool spot for cheap HH, will definitely be back!

My husband and I have been wanting to try this place out for awhile and we finally got the chance to. First off the bat, totally LA hipster, we loved the ambiance of the place. I think the whole school theme is pretty clever, actually. The wait on a Saturday night was 45 minutes, which I think is pretty good for a Saturday night. It was less if we wanted to sit outside, but it was chilly, so I opted for inside. The game was on inside near the bar so that was a plus while we were waiting. When we sat down, we were greeted immediately(plus), got our waters-2 glasses and a carafe right away(plus), and were able to put our order in(plus). I also ordered a diet coke. Drew came by and brought me a small glass(seriously a sipping glass) with an 8-ounce bottle of diet coke(negative). WTH? No refills, they charge by bottle. Seriously, what the heck? I like my diet coke and my refills! Not happy about that. We ordered the cauliflower for appetizers and it was good. It’s rolled around in some cheese and and bread crumbs and fried. There was also buffalo sauce and bleu cheese dips. We enjoyed it. My husband got the bangers and mash, he said it was good and filling. I got the Lamb Burger and it was delicious. It had brie, arugula and a tomato-cranberry jam. The flavors complimented well. Side of brown bag fries to complete the meal. The food was great, but nothing to run home about, or nothing that I would picture craving later on. Our waiter was attentive at first, but that’s it. Whenever we were looking for him, we would always find him talking to the same group of girls at another table. It was frustrating. The glasses aren’t big and the carafe is not that big either, we needed a lot of water! I would go back, bc I would like to try the happy hour and some of the beers. And like I said the ambiance is fun. Maybe this time we will sit at the bar so we won’t be forgotten.

Unfortunately every time I’m here and taste a beer on tap… It immediately runs out. NoOoOoO :( However that just means I have great taste and choose all the popular ones! Kidding. The cutting board is a wonderful starter for your meal with the chef’s selection of meats and cheeses, most likely meaning that this varies from time to time. Bacon cheddar tots — ugh, I’m getting hungry just thinking about these crisp little beauties. The wonderful sriracha ketchup on the side adds to the flavor! The C.C.B. is an amazing burger that is literally bursting — and bursting with flavor. It’s quite the messy eat but well worth it. I love the clever menu design — a composition notebook. The name for a pitcher of beer to share? Study group. Public School knows how to play tribute to their name without going too over the top and also offers games such as darts and giant jenga. So have a drink or maybe a whole study group and play some jenga and see how that pans out!

We ended up here for a friend’s birthday brunch to celebrate in style by feasting on some great entrées. I’ve been here before and my first experience wasn’t that great so I decided to give it another shot first. Service was ridiculous last time and they crammed 12 of us in the little patio area where we had to eat on our laps around a fire pit. Things have changed since then and this time around we actually had the opportunity of enjoying our food at a table. It was like the first time because I didn’t even get to see a menu last time, and man do I wish I did. The menus are cool! They are like the school notepads and scantrons we use to have in school. We all went off the brunch menu and I decided to go with: THECHICKENSAUSAGEANDCHEDDARGRITS– two fried eggs, blistered tomatoes, grilled corn, bacon, greens and beer-blanc sauce. I really enjoyed this meal. The sausage was tasty plus when mixed with the bacon, it was a meat lovers dream. The greats were a different texture than I’m use to. It almost seamed as if they fried the outer layer of the grits making is a grits patty. Overall, I enjoyed it and would definitely order it again. STUFFEDFRENCHTOASTOFTHEDAY — French toasted covered in chocolate and syrup. My fiancé ordered this, as usual. Anytime she can satisfy her sweet tooth craving she is going for it. She was actually pretty dissatisfied with ordering it because it was too sweet. I had a bite and it was good, but I also found it to be too sweet at the time. It tasted better without the chocolate, for me. JUSTABOUTBOTTEMLESSMIMOSA — I guess the concept for this is you get two small carafes full of mimosas, thus making it «almost bottemless» and it worked because everyone at the table was definitely satisfied with the amount. In conclusion, would I ever come back or recommend this place to anyone? Besides the annoying $ 4 parking next door that is CASHONLY, of course! The food was good, service was good and the place has a fun, cool atmosphere. OOOO 4 out of 5 Afros

2015 Unilocal100CHALLENGE — 098⁄100 Came here once with an old coworker when I used to work nearby. I had been wanting to try Public School for awhile, and then they conveniently opened one in the 818! We came around 2:30pm on a weekday and the place was pretty empty. We got seated immediately, which was great since we only have an hour lunch. We ordered the following: BACONCHEDDARTOTS — with sriracha ketchup: Probably the best thing we had that day. Loved the bacon inside the cheddar tots. They were a little salty, but still very good! Would recommend. SPECK&EGGS — deviled eggs, crispy prosciutto: Pretty good, but not the best I’ve ever had. The prosciutto added a nice crunch. BANGERS&MASH — two grilled chicken & herb sausages, bacon brussel mash, caramelized onion au jus: I was excited about this because I had Bangers & Mash several times when I visited London… but unfortunately this just wasn’t good! The sausages were almost overly seasoned, and the bacon brussel mash had too much brussels for my taste. I took a few bites and ended up sending it back… which I NEVER do. I felt bad but I just couldn’t get myself to finish it. BBQBISONBURGER — grass fed, whiskey bbq sauce, emmental, pepper bacon mushroom topping: I replaced my Bangers & Mash with this and unfortunately I didn’t think it was that great either… although I don’t remember the last time I had a bison burger, so maybe that’s why. I do remember there being an overwhelming amount of bbq sauce, which made it very messy. Overall, the only thing that really stood out to me was the bacon cheddar tots. I’d be willing to try other items again, but I was pretty disappointed in most of the things I tried on my initial visit.

I’ve come here a few times now. The food is always consistent. It’s a very fun spot if you want to chill and watch games or play games! The service is good. Our waitress was extremely friendly and kept checking on us throughout the 2.5 hours we were here. My favorite drink here is the Moscow mule, it’s not too sweet. I’m not a beer drinker but my bf loves the golden monkey beer there. We usually always order the bacon cheddar tots, Mac and cheese and pizza! The bacon cheddar tots are nice and crispy and perfectly sized, they’re not too small. The Mac and cheese is amazing its topped with potato chips which adds a nice crunch. Yesterday we ordered the pepperoni jalapeño pizza which was nice and thin crust but crispy! I definitely recommend coming here if you’re looking for a chill place to hangout and enjoy drinks and good food!

After hearing the rave reviews about this place for so long I decided to give it a try. I was no disappointed! It is located north of Ventura Blvd on Sepulveda. My significant other and I ordered the buffalo cauliflower and Mac and cheese with chorizo as appetizers. We were not disappointed! The cauliflower is encrusted and accompanied with blue cheese and buffalo sauce. The Mac and cheese needed more cheese flavor but it was good. It also came with potato chips on top. We ordered a salad as well that came in a humongous salad bowl! It had a good combination of greens and chicken. I also had a Guavaladajara, a cocktail, which tasted like guava!!! So delish! Our waiter was great and very attentive. Definitely coming back!

My husband and I have been wanting to check this place out for a while. We finally paid it a visit Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. Heads up — valet parking only but its just $ 4(cash only)! we were seated right away and I immediately took notice to 2 things: 1. its loud as hell in there and 2. the place is decorated so cute! They definitely run wtih the school theme with letterman jackets hanging on hooks, gloves, scientific periodic table on the walls — really cute! The only reason this spot isn’t getting 4 stars is the service — it was really lacking. Once we were seated it took a while before someone came by and acknowledged us. The waiter was really friendly, dont get me wrong but it was slow to get going. We put in our orders for the bacon cheddar tots, the CCB(hand held Cobb) for myself and the Bison burger for my husband. We both got the kale & brussel sprouts slaw on the side. The tots were great, although I wish there were a few more of them. The sirracha ketchup on the side was great and spicy but not too spicy. Around this time our waiter went on his break and we never received any kind of service after that. He introduced us to the gentelman who would be taking care of his in his absence but he was never around. So much so that i saw someone have to walk up to him to flag him down to pay. I ended up asking the person expiditing the food for my check. Really crappy service on that end. Back to the food… my husband has had the bison burger before and loved it, this time was no different. I thought the slaw on the side could use some extra seasoning or flavor. It was a little too basic. My burger was great. The chicken wasn’t so finely ground into the patty. The toppings were great — just like a hand held cobb salad! Loved it! Only downer to it was that the egg on top was over cooked and not the runny egg I was expecting — so that was a bummer. So Overall — excellent food, unfortunate service.

I had and amazing opportunity to go to Public School 818 the other night. I couldn’t decide on what to eat so I got an assortment of delicious yummies. For starters, I ordered the ahi tacos, and the calamari. For my entrée, I ordered the huntsman with the kale slaw. I have to say it is one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The ahi tacos were flavorful, and the right balance of flavors. The calamari was crispy and full of flavor. The huntsman was so good. The burger came with huntsman cheese, which was a combination of cheddar and a hint of blue cheese. The burger practically melted in my mouth. The kale slaw was the right balance of dressing and blue cheese. It was very light and airy. What I really enjoyed was the fresh ingredients, and that everything was made to order. Also the environment makes you reminisce of your old school days as well. It is a very unique interior with a friendly staff. Definitely going again.

This place gets packed on the weekends! But for good reason. The décor/theme is great. They do a great job sticking with the«classroom» theme and the atmosphere is fun. The food is great. My favorite is the cauliflower dish. Or if you go during happy hour«recess» the PB&J sliders are the bomb! Finding street parking can be tricky so I would just use the lot that’s next to the restaurant.

This is the fourth Public School in LA I have patronized. I have been to the first in DTLA, the one in Culver City, the one in Westlake Village, and now this one in the Valley. I must start by saying as this restaurant has expanded across greater LA, the quality has not suffered. The menu’s are largely seasonal, and the beer selection is unbeatable. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and this location had food just as delicious as the other locations. Whoever is expanding this group of restaurants, I must say: bravo. Please keep up the good work if you continue to expand.
