Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft

Three words: Small; requires updating.

Not going to lie — this place is pretty haphazard. They have a small space (for a Jo-Ann’s) and it’s pretty packed. The fabric isn’t well labeled/​poor signage, so I couldn’t find what I was looking for (based on my experience at other Jo-Ann’s and their layouts).
A fabric cutter promptly found the fabric I wanted and was very helpful.
Check out was easy. I appreciate the large parking lot.
But yeah, do not expect the selection you would find at other Jo-Ann’s!

Ok, good location but prices compare to downtown — extremely high!
I bought in downtown same quality, same size fabric for ¼ price!
but overall ok, nothing bad. I used this store only when I have to get something quick

I found the customer service from an employee named: Hip and Happening Hannah to be top notice five star ***** excellent.
Hip and Happening Hannah walked me to the locations where the fabrics I was looking for where located.
Told me and showed me the names of the fabrics and keep a very upbeat pleasant smile on her face and never made me feel rushed in any way.
After Hip and Happening Hannah finished helping me.
She went straight to one of the check out stands to help others who where waiting in line.
This young lady is a giver, and that really impressed me.
Great Job Hip and Happening Hannah, great job by a great lady.

Always a line to checkout or get fabric and never enough staff! I’m currently standing in line here and there are no less than 17 people with one girl to check out!

The cashier Amy is THE BEST. It really helps when the staff is super knowledgable. Love it!

Slow lines. 8 people in front of us. 2 cashiers. 1 was handling a dispute with a client phone-​related so it was only 1 cashier helping out the store. She was super nice and helpful though. Jo-Ann’s could have more helpers. I was so lost looking for a helper, and received no help at all.

Walked in and walked straight out. What a terrible excuse for a craft store. Dismal selection. I have never been to a Jo-Ann’s that only carries a handful of paint selections, not to mention spray paint. Their holiday section was pitiful. I am beyond disappointed. The entire atmosphere was off-​putting. This store is in serious need of a renovation.

The store was extremely understaffed for Halloween season but the few women here were really on top of the place with steady smiles. The two staff members I spoke with were very kind! Nicole and Janice, both very helpful & the woman in the back cutting fabric was kicking ass as well! Give these these ladies some support or a huge raise!

Staff is very friendly, but this store is ALWAYS, ALWAYS understaffed. Cashier lines are always ridiculous! And they have been using the same excuse that someone called in sick… 15 people in line with one cashier at 5:30pm.

Last resort spot. Hope you know what you are looking for and have the time to find it on your own. As for the majority of the staff in many locations, they are worn out housewives who work there for the discount. Change your attitudes and hire employees who are passionate about being crafty.

I’ve been to this joanns a handful of times over the past eight years and every single trip has pissed me off. Today was the absolute last time I will ever set foot in this store. Aside from the fact that the place was actually clean and organized (first time in eight years that I’ve walked in and been like, ‘ok. There is no disarray to make my eye twitch.’), there was one lady who obviously has no clue on how to talk to staff she’s frustrated with in a professional manner. Look — I get it. I run a company and deal with people who didn’t go to Harvard every day. But you don’t talk to them like they’re morons on the sales floor. Take them in the back and do it there. I don’t want to hear you bitching and doing it loudly enough for me to hear throughout half the store.
Went to purchase a few things and wanted to stock up on fabric. Went to grab some scissors and… all are locked up. Who the hell locks up scissors? Never in my life have I been to any store, craft related or not, and seen scissors locked up. What kind of clientele are you soliciting that steals scissors so much you have to lock them up? My god. «Please ask for assistance.» Yea, sure! Let me go find one of the nonexistent employees whose available to assist me. After giving up on the scissors there was no way I was even looking at fabric. Paid for my snaps and left, but not before asking about the scissors. «They’re expensive and people steal them.» Well by that logic shouldn’t everything over $ 15 be locked up? Why don’t you just have someone hold everyone’s hands while they’re shopping to make sure nobody steals? It’s ludicrous.
Went to michaels and bought scissors. Hassle free.

Not the best one to go to. If you think you are going to run in and out, think again. Long lines because it is understaffed. If you think you might have to ask someone a question, think again. You can never find any staff that is not behind the counter (one cutting fabric, and the one person who is working the register). I’ve gone at different times, and it’s always the same.

I don’t think I’d ever visit this place if it wasn’t absolutely necessary. I came in to buy a small amount of fabric and explore a bit since I had never been in a Jo-Ann’s and I was pretty disappointed. Despite being the closest Jo-Ann’s to me it was still pretty out of the way. Upon entering, the store has kind of a dilapidated strip mall feel and it seems like a chore to look for things. Even asking for help finding a specific item, I got a rude, disinterested response from one of the employees. As others have said, the lines are incredibly long and it seems like there’s only ever one cashier attending.
My only pleasant experience was with one of the younger employees who cut my fabric and was overall really nice. It’s pretty sad when I consider Walmart a better alternative to this place since they carry fabric and sewing supplies as well.

I like this store… Has a pretty good selection and customer service. I’ve always been able to find what I need, prices are good and I’m usually in-​and-​out quickly.
I mean, I’m not a crafty person nor a seamstress, so I may not be the best person to listen to. But for «regular, non crafty» people like me, this store carries most of what you’ll need. Again, prices are decent, and I’m an avid online shopper — I’ve found the prices to be even better than my fav sites.
On the other side, customer service is a pretty general thing… no need to be an expert to know when you’re treated well and when you’re not. My experience here has been good; they don’t need to be my best friend, just help me find what I need… Amd they do that, usually with a cordial tone. That’s more than enough for me ;)

I feel bad giving this place a 2 star review. I’ve been here multiple times and it never seems to get any better from where it’s at.
CONS:
~There’s never enough employees. (EXTREMELY LONG LINES)
~They need to place the fabric back on the shelves.
~The jewelry section is always lacking in stock. (if someone buys it all then I get it but it shouldn’t be near empty every visit I make. and that’s like once every two weeks.)
~Not enough space
~Disorganization of the seasonal area
~Not enough lighting in the back area of the store
~Limited on stock
PROS:
~The have patterns (Michael levine’s is a pain in the ass)
~Parking lot doesn’t cost you (like fabric district)
~Open normal store hours (9 – 9)
~Mailer coupons are nice on the items you can use
~Employees will scan your phone for your coupons
~The employees that work there are friendly (the ones I’ve met are super duper friendly)
~Extra viking machine lady works there as a representative of Viking machines.
I wish they were able to find more employees and break down the wall from the old Blockbuster. If they were able to use that space this JoAnns would be a great place to shop at. (It gets super creepy in the back ribbon area).

I’ve been standing in line for almost a half hour, and I’m still in line, to get one lousy piece of fabric cut. I went and asked management for an extra cutting employee (who happens to be a little old Korean woman who is verrry slow), but they didn’t do anything. I’m in a hurry, I have somewhere to be!
Don’t be an idiot and understaff your store on a Saturday afternoon!
And DON’T BE AN IDIOT AND SHOP HERE!
And after writing that, I’m STILL in line.

This place is taking a nose dive, and I’m watching it happen! :-0
I love yarn. I know that’s weird, but you’re going to have to bear with me here… So, I’ve been gathering up skeins of yarn and crocheting with them for awhile now, a little over a year. I love love LOVE making loops and then pulling loops through loops and listening to a documentary about killer whales and drinking a cocktail and ending up with a scarf.
Yay!
I’ve been spending a lot of time playing with different projects, and trying not to spend crazy money on this hobby, so Jo-​Ann in Sherman Oaks is a pretty sweet deal for me most of the time, with all the coupons and the convenient location near a Starbucks. Unfortunately, it seems like every time I go there and buy a skein of something, then go home and use it and go back for more they’re out of the color/​texture/​weight I was working with!
It’s very frustrating to buy four skeins of something to make a sweater only to realize you need four more skeins, and then go back to the shop and find that they don’t have it in stock… and then you need to go on Amazon and buy it from some weird guy who accidentally ships you one skein after you pay for six. F#CK! I’m never going to finish this sweater.
Anyways, the staff is usually pretty nice to me, because the majority of the patrons there are just as Andrew H has so beautifully characterized. I empathize with them, after all, they are spending entire shifts providing poor customer service while holding sharp implements!
I’ve worked retail enough to see the problems:
— their inventory levels are low, (so people yell at them all day that they’re out of yarn, or class 55 bobbins or WTF ever)
— they are barely staffing the store (they can’t make payroll for more than five employees at a time, so there’s two on register max, and two at the cutting table, plus someone is on lunch and there is a vendor near the expensive sewing machines who probably can’t help customers)
–the business model is utterly dependent on holidays and promotions (I lurve my coupons and don’t pay $ 8 a skein, that’s for damn sure)
Now, I’ve definitely seen my share of crazy Jo-Ann’s employee yielding the scissors at the table, and really, there should be no excuse for bad service… but I can identify with what’s going on here. This little, out of the way location has no space for classes, and isn’t doing well financially due to the changed needs of the average consumer, who is more likely to throw away a shirt and buy a new one for $ 10 at Target than spend $ 3 on a button they’d sew in themselves… the employees are unhappy because they probably can’t make you happy, so Jo-Ann’s can’t make you happy!
I do hope they turn it around, because I do like having them in the neighborhood!

Line is a mile long and 7 days before Christmas they have one person at the counter.
The staff who cuts the bolts of fabrics is straight up SURLY. If I ever gave that kind of attitude when I was waitressing, I would’ve been fired on the spot.
Seriously? 1 dude at the counter and 30 people in line.
The women who do the fabric cutting in the back need to be re-​trained in the customer service skills department.
With today’s online shopping convenience, it’s amazing these guys are still in business.
I love their fabrics there and use the fleece for my dog & kitty blankets.
Here’s what happened:
I asked the girl if she could cut the fabrics twice, for two separate yards. «We don’t do that.» She said. They don’t look you in the eye and aren’t friendly.
So I got another bolt of the exact same fabric and asked her to cut a yard off that one so I could have two separate pieces.
They need to retrain their staff for customer service skills and there was one guy at the counter and literally 30 people in line 7 days before Christmas.

Kinda ghetto/​run down. Parking situation also sucks. The spots are diagonal and the aisles are narrow and it just takes forever to get through. The actual store is old, run down, and super messy. My co-​worker and I came here to find some art supplies. They had a pretty decent selection of Christmas decorations, and most, if not all, were on discount. I did, however, noticed that if the items WEREN’T on discount, they would have been TOTALLY overpriced at full price.
I didn’t get to check out the fabric/​material, but it looked like they had a pretty good selection throughout the entire store.
