Nice place but not the best for appraisals. I was charged $ 200 to appraise my engagement ring, and it was way undervalued. He also contradicted what he told me about the stone from a previous visit. He then said it was white gold when it was platinum because he didn’t actually test the metal (until I asked him to) during this expensive appraisal. I went home to do some research and read that appraisals are highly subjective and not at all regulated so I took it for an appraisal at another upscale jeweler (in Sacramento after I got married). They charged me $ 60, cleaned it better than I had ever seen it and appraised it for $ 4000 more (consistent with what other jewelers had estimated the value to be). I’m so glad I took it for a second opinion at a fraction of the appraisal cost. Now my insurance on the ring reflects the actual value. I just wish I could get my $ 200 back.

I have done business with Houston Jewelers since 1997. They have helped me with family jewelry, my silver place settings, and all sorts of repairs. They are genuinely nice people and helpful. Sherman Oaks ought to be proud to have such a fine business in the neighborhood!
