Handy J Car Wash

Now what do I do with the prepaid car wash coupons that I’ve paid for? Yikes. Totally ripped off after all of these years.

Stuck with a booklet of 10 car washes — which I bought merely 6 weeks ago. There is no way to contact them to try and get any of the money back. I have been a loyal customer for years and often put up with sub-​par cleanings merely to support the business. Terrible way to treat their customers.

I am sick to learn they are permanently closed! The only car wash I ever used in LA! I don’t know where to go now.

I am not sure when they went out of business but they are gone. I went by today at 3PM to get my car washed and the space is «for rent.» Honestly, I always thought they did a nice job whenever I went there.

I don’t understand how people don’t rate this higher. The people here are nice and they do a better job than any of the other local car washes IMO. My wife and I bring our cars in once a week and we’ve never been disappointed.

Went for a car wash this morning, waited a long time, when I finally got my car it seems like I washed it myself. I don’t expect miracles but at least a decent car wash. When I asked to speak with a manager I was informed that there was no manager on site. No one wanted to help me, no one care, and no one moved a finger to make a happy customer go away. I spend a lot of money for a decent car wash but instead I got nothing, so I had to go ahead and clean the car myself. Very bad because I used to go to the same car wash in Marina del Rey and the attention toward the costumer is completely different. Spent money for nothing and sweat on top of it by cleaning it myself. Very bad service, very bad attention to customers, and waiting time it’s long. Not recommending this place anymore

I have been a loyal customer of Handy J for more than a decade. Sadly I must report that the quality of the work which is so labor dependent has gone from stellar and wonderful to sub par and below average.
Yesterday I had my car washed and there were only 5 men working.
One person actually washed my car. When my car was washed the manager dried it off and then it waited 15 minutes for someone to be free.
Handy J could be great again if the absentee owner took pride in his award winning business.
If you look at the faded Handy J sign it represents the lack of pride and desire for profit over passion that is Handy J now .
Somehow Handy J keeps getting listed in Los Angeles Magazine best of LA. Please write the magazine to get Handy J removed I did!

This used to be the gold standard. You would drive out of your way to get your car washed here. It always turned out great. I don’t know what the secret sauce was but it’s gone now.
Always some problem with something carelessly left uncleaned or not vacuumed. Rushed, sloppy, just average, no reason to drive out of your way. Just recently I told them not to remove my mats and to just vacuum around them. Instead they ripped them out and tore the Velcro fastener. Brain dead. Once a car wash oasis in the Valley but no longer. Don’t know exactly what has changed, but they are living off their reputation now, just fumes.

I’m only giving a two star because the guys who washed my car were nice and my car looked decent. The guy who took my money was a super douch. I have no problem talking politics. But when he initiated politics and began to tell me that people in the Middle East need to get bombed and how Iranians (which I am) are disgusting and need to die. The manager was very nice when I complained. I told him that I was stunned at his statements. While I was trying to drive away, the cashier came up to me and said that because I’m a customer that he is apologizing. «Let’s agree to disagree» he said. Let’s agree that my country needs to be bombed. Right! Never going back

I got a full interior cleaning and free exterior wash for only $ 60! They said it would take about 1.5 hours and I got it back in only an hour. My car has never been this clean lol I’m super stoked and my car is definitely ready to sell. Great job, guys!

Got my car and there was a black mark that was not there before, asked them to get manager and the guy ignored me and walked away. Will never go back

I have had my car washed here several times and its hit or miss in terms of the quality of the work done. However I was willing to deal with that but today was the last straw. Less than a year ago I took my car there for a wash and they broke my key, its a Lexus key, well I had to pay for it myself, they used pliers to turn the remaining key in my ignition so that I could drive directly to the key shop. So I stayed away from there for a while, then I started going back every now and then, and generally always warn them to be sure to turn the key gently, well two weeks ago when I told the guy who took my car wash order, he put a tape on the key, I thought perhaps he did that to remind others to be careful with the key (they are in a rush so they tend to be rough with jumping in and getting the next car taken care of) everything went fine and my key was in tact when I got it.
Today however when they gave me my key it was broken, the manager Hugo I believe his name is, was so rude to me, I have never had anyone treat me this way as a customer. He kept telling me that my key was broken a long time ago, so basically I was lying, I was just in shock that he would accuse me of pretending that they broke my key. I was so upset, and I told him that I would never come back there again and he told me not to come back. Now I am a very easy going person and give a lot of leeway so I just could not believe this. I did receive a refund for the car wash but more than anything what bothers me is the way I was treated. And the person who put the tape on my key a few weeks ago did not want to admit it… not sure if his pay would have been docked so perhaps thats why. But I was made out to be a liar.
I had to leave from there straight to the key shop again and have another key made. That guy Hugo should never be the manager, he has zero customer service skills, I don’t ever want to see anyone fired but this guy deserved to be fired at least from being the manager. There are a lot of high end cars coming through there and my feeling is that he would never have treated one of those customers that way. So very unfortunate that we treat each other this way, very unfortunate.
This is the first time that I have ever complained on any company on Unilocal.This is how upset I was. Well I wont ever go back there.

This is isn’t the greatest carwash in town, but for the price it’s pretty damn good. The people are always nice to me and they usually get the job done quickly.
Fair job, fair price.

I asked the guy who writes up the order to provide a price for a hand wax and clay. He said 60.00 but tried to up sell to a waxing machine for 100. I told him no just the wax. While paying I confirmed with the guy in the booth that the $ 60 included the Clay and he said no that would be $ 100 but I told him I already been quoted $ 60 and the guy argued with me and finally went outside to confront the gentleman who wrote up the order and after they conferred the guy in the booth continue to argue and finally relented and confirmed I would get the Clay. Upon my return I asked the gentleman who had worked on the car whether it had been clayed and he said no just waxed.
When I went back to talk to the guy in the booth I got the runaround and he told me the car had been clayed. This is BS. Don’t go here unless you like being ripped off and mistreated. I would give this place a zero if I could.
Never again.

I have mixed feelings about this car wash. I go here on a regular basis just because I receive coupons in the mail and live just across the street, so it’s convenient.
The people are usually friendly. However, they rarely do a good job. EVERY time I still have dirt stuck here and there. Sometimes it’s so blatantly obvious that I have to point it out before I drive off. One time I had a lot of dust on the backseat from transporting something, and when it was «ready» it didn’t look like they had even wiped the seats. I asked them to please remove the dust on the backseat, to which the guy replied that «this is a complicated stain requiring special solvents». It’s dust, I know where it came from. My seats are leather, so I literally just ran my hand along the stain and voila! — off came the dust. I then asked him again to just wipe it down with a towel and low and behold… he did, which removed the dust.
Sometimes a little coffee spills inside etc, hence why I get the «handy j supreme» wash but every time the drink stains are still there when I pick it up and I end up wiping it myself.
I really wish they would put just a little more effort into it

I came here from Sherman Oaks Car Wash, see my other awful review, and said I CAME HERE FROM ANOTHER CAR WASH THEY DID A TERRIBLE JOB ON THE INSIDE… I NEED THE INSIDE DETAILED SO THAT IT’S CLEAN. PLEASE DON’T WASH THE OUTSIDE JUST NEED THE INSIDE DONE.
I didn’t speak in tongues or mince words. But they
drove my car right thru their little car wash anyway and when my poor, underpaid not very professional car cleaner very proudly gave me my keys… I asked him for his spray bottle and spent another ½ hour cleaning the car while he stood there telling me that if I get a toothpick I can get the gunk out of the cracks. I said ok thank you and kept on cleaning as he gave me tips on deep cleaning the car. Im thinking my head might have been smoking by then and thought if I say one angry thing I will not be able to stop.
I respect these guys… it’s a tough job… that’s why I don’t want to do it. So I go to places to do it for me… but it’s been dissapointing get thus far.
I am trying Robs Car Wash next… blah!

It’s 5:00 pm on a Saturday, and I need my car washed. I know it’s kind of late for that, so I call ahead and ask, are you still open?
Yes, I’m told, open until 5:30.
I arrive at 5:11. The sign says that it’s open until 5:30.
The attendant tells me they are closed.
You could have just told me on the phone that you don’t want me as a customer and don’t want my money. Thank you for wasting my time. I will not try again.

My experiences with this carwash over the years have been positive. I can recall having to request/​point out missed spots/​final touches but once and the staff member took care of it immediately. All I reallly ask for in the end is mats be back in place after being beaten and wiped, all seats and visors and anything adjusted be back in place after my inspection, and no leftover wetspots. Usually if I even ask for a towel they will ask what I spotted and take care of it. Other than that, not my fault if someone’s slack day reflects on their tip-​out.

I like relaxing a bit when I go to a car wash. Maybe that makes me silly… but it’s really loud, facilities are mediocre at best. There is very little seating. It’s pretty dingy. Don’t know if I’ll be back.

Ownership! Clearly this has happened before as stated in earlier reviews. This place is terrible. Horribly run. I have never given this bad of a review in my life.
