Abundance – A Plus Size Boutique

I was just in New York where you would think they would have great clothes for plus sizes. Nothing except the traditional department stores. I have never found any store to compare to Abundance. As everyone says, coming in you feel like you are home. I love that when I put on something that looks bad they tell me to take it off because it is not working. I have been shopping here for years. Can’t imagine going anywhere else.

This isn’t just a store with exceptional clothes for us curvy gals, it’s a family of women who will do anything to help you feel beautiful. A few months ago I came here with a huge problem: I was going to be on The Today Show and had shopped for days all over LA and couldn’t find anything to wear. I was leaving the next day and I was frantic. The women at Abundance all joined in, stayed late and got me all set up for the show. While so many other stores couldn’t be bothered helping a size 16 gal (if they even carried any clothes in my size), these kind, expert women treated me like a queen, I can’t say enough about this store and the people who work there.
My review is very late in coming but, ladies, please know how much I appreciate and thank you.

Spending time in this store is like spending time with honest girlfriends. Admittedly, the prices are not cheap, but the clothes are not either. And you do get what you pay for in the end. Gigi is incredibly helpful and Michele is AMAZING. She spent so much time with me, and suggested pieces I would never have tried on that shockingly looked terrific! The level of service in this store is unmatched as far as plus size shopping is concerned. I didn’t feel awkward because of my size, I didn’t feel pressured to fit in to something unflattering, I felt celebrated and was given a boost of confidence! And I left with unique, funky pieces that I love. Thank you, Abundance!

I cannot say enough nice things about this store.
Every single saleswoman there was helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. They all went very far out of their way to help my mom find the perfect outfit for my wedding. The owner, Michelle, was unbelievably amazing and even made sure that we saw the showroom samples of one of her lines when the right outfit wasn’t immediately apparent. With their gracious help we found the PERFECT outfit that was flattering, funky, and not ridiculously priced.
One million thumbs up.
Also, they have little cookies, crackers, cheese and flavored water next to comfy couches so make sure to volunteer to help a loved one shop here.

This was a happy find for my mom. She was giving up hope looking for a mother of the bride dress for my wedding and we happened to stumble upon Abundance.
We arrived on a Sunday (which is great cuz most stores are closed!) and Cindra helped us out. She showed us all the beautiful Montage dresses they had and finally she brought out a gorgeous red/​maroon one that looked beautiful on my mom. My mom was hesitant because of the hefty price tag and wanting my dads approval who wasn’t with us. She ended up buying the dress the next day however she bargained the price down a bit. She was a little frustrated as towards the end of the sale she wasn’t treated very kindly and she went home crying with the rude remark made by the owner but she eventually got her dress.
If you’re a plus size woman looking for fancy dress this place might have a handful of options but not many. Again I wouldn’t try to haggle the prices but if you do, be prepared to leave without the dress.

The minute I stepped into Abundance, I found myself in shopping heaven. I had so many wonderful options that I truly went into a buying frenzy. This is the first store that «got me»! The store is well stocked, the employees are helpful and knowledgeable about their inventory. My daughter and I had a wonderful couple of hours selecting beautiful clothes with some labels that we’d never heard of… and my daughter is a SHOPPER. I loved it so much that I returned 2 weeks later with a dear friend, who also shopped big. I have made several more purchases over the phone and each time it was seamless. I received a thank you note after my first visit, then one with each mail order. I appreciate the friendly atmosphere and flawless service.

I absolutely love going to this store. I feel like they are family. I always have the most amazing help and I love their honesty of how the clothes look on you. I also love that you can’t go to Macy’s and buy the same thing. Really great designers for every style. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS STORE.

I just had the best time trying on clothes at this wonderful boutique. I needed a dress for my sons wedding and the first dress I tried on was perfect. Comfortable, no spanx needed, and can’t wait to wear it to the wedding. I also needed an outfit for the rehearsal dinner, no problem, found something beautiful. Connie also showed me basic clothes, pants, skirt and shirts, all same fabric and go with each other, so I can mix and match the pieces. I feel like I died and went to heaven. I have a favorite store that caters to the plus size woman with wonderful fabrics and designs, not to mention the friendly and oh so helpful women who work there. Thank you.

I’m a bit torn over this review so let me just lay it out for ya and you decide.
Pros:
–Very friendly & helpful staff
–Lots of clothing for such a tiny store
–It’s nice to find a store for a fuller figure gal without every garment being made out of 70’s polyester! (hear that Macy’s buyers)
–I like quality, breathable, natural fabrics.
–Has some more youthful (in mind) items.
Cons:
–Pricey — even for the simplest, non-​fancy of garment
–Tiny store so it can get crowded with as few as 5 shoppers and one must dig (just a bit) as the items are tightly stocked. But again there’s a helpful staff available.
–Needs more items with a waist! Not everyone is into or needs the «tent» effect.
–Needs MORE youthful (in mind) items. (and I don’t mean like Torrid-​yuck).
–Would like quality without blowing a hole in my wallet.
So I’ve gone here a few times and will go back, but I have to be prepared both in mind & in wallet for the prices. The clientele I’ve run into while there seems to be older and either in the industry or connected to it so it’s probably in their budget more than mine.

If you are a size 12 or over, this is THE place to go in the LA area. Gorgeous little boutique with masses of clothes that are fashionable, forward, elegant, and pretty much whatever you’re looking for. I lucked out and arrived during a slow period, so the attendant went looking for things she thought would suit me and my described interest, brought them over for my «Yes, love that, I’ll try it on,» or «No way, not my style.» Once a huge batch was collected — and all the time I was sitting in a lazy fashion on the comfortable couch with my friend, being served as if I was a queen — they were very helpful as I tried everything on. I walked in only really interested in checking the place out and seeing if it was as great as a friend who recommended it said it was, but their selection is so fabulous I ended up buying 6 items before leaving the store (the styles going from elegent all the way to hip). I can’t guarantee you’ll arrive during a slow period and get the level of service I received, but the staff was wonderful. They have an eye for what will suit a person. Now, don’t ask what my bill was before I walked out … this place isn’t cheap. On the other hand, the fabric quality is FAR better than many stores, the selection is great, and I would consider their clothes generally quite high quality. Planning another spree as soon as I can afford it :) Really, a fantastic find.

I have been here a few times. The staff is very helpful and knowledgable. The clothes that I have purchased are well made, beautiful, stylish and make me feel attractive when I wear them. They are not inexpensive. It beats going into a department store where the clothes aren’t tailored to a plus sized figure.

Fantastic store, I visit every time I come to LA from the Bay Area, fly into Burbank,
rent a car then head for Abundance! Always find several very cute clothes~

Saw an ad in Performance magazine and looked up the website. Gorgeous clothes! Stopped in — was welcomed warmly by Cindra (sp?) and Michelle (owner). A wonderful experience, great service without pushiness. The clothes are excellent quality, very high-​end, not necessarily for someone on a tight budget. I had lots of choices, found a couple of things that were just perfect. I know I’ll be back!

Maybe I’ve visited in the wrong seasons, but I’ve never found anything I liked here. I’m too old for Torrid, but I still like to have clothes that have some sort of shape to them. The stuff I’ve found here is great quality and smashing colors, but I’ve had a hell of a time finding something with a waist. As a top-​heavy apple-​ish/​hourglass, the last thing I need is loads of beautiful fabric hanging from my bosom.
If you don’t have these requirements, Abundance is a good place to shop; the quality of their goods is probably unmatched by any retailer in LA. But if you need something with a silhouette a little more tailored, you may have to go elsewhere.

Wow! Y’know that Blind Melon video for No Rain, with the little girl in a bumblebee costume wandering around looking for other bumblebees? Well, here’s the hive baby! These are the clothes, and the atmosphere, that I had been searching for.
The breadth of selection is fantastic – everything from formal, artwear dresses to bohemian printed funky babydolls to crinkly gorgeous linen. The stuff that floored me was the asymmetrical, clean-​lined Japanese inspired pieces with the quirky details like a pocket on the back of a jacket or slits under the kimono arms.
You gotta go! The prices are great, the sales are crazy, and the staff is warm and knowledgeable. Even though they loved an outfit on me that I didn’t fancy, they never pushed. They also shipped a few pieces to me later, that I regretted not buying in the store.
Don’t miss this store if you are anywhere near the Valley, girls!

I was visiting LA and needed a dress for a party! I’m a size 18 and in my mid-20’s so it can be a challenge to find something cute and flattering. We first went the mall and it was a flop. Not from the area, I turned to Unilocal and typed in «plus size» near LA. I found Abundance and we began the 20+ min journey with traffic.
I FOUND THE BEST DRESS! The woman who helped us was WONDERFUL! She listened to what I needed and pulled out a few dresses. As expected, some of the styles were a little to mature for me, but I found 3 possible dresses and even if they didn’t fit, she said they could order it in my size. Well, I tried on the only one I really loved and even though I thought it was a size too small, it fit GREAT! It was even on sale TWICE! It was about $ 170 marked down to about $ 110 and then with the current sale, it cost about $ 85.
Excellent experience. 5 stars easily. I’ll be back next time I’m in LA!

It has been awhile since I visited LA but when I was back there over the Labor Day weekend I made it my first order of business to head to Abundance and shop for a special occasion dress. And I do mean it was my first order business — after picking up my rental car at LAX I immediately pointed my car north with my first stop being at Abundance.
Of course, I found THE PERFECT DRESS and they were having a crazy sale so I also found lots of other fun, creative and elegant pieces that I gladly paid for and brought home with me to Palo Alto.
Thanks to Michelle and the crew there for doing such a great job and providing women of fuller-​figure a superb place to shop for sublime clothes.

My first trip to Abundance was like my first trip to Disneyland — truly magical. And, the folks at Abundance have never failed me. They always have a terrific range of amazing styles that look and feel great, and have plenty of sizes to choose from. So, instead of painfully paying for items that I don’t really like (but fit), as I have in certain department stores, at Abundance, I always fall in love with many more items than I need, and end up having to choose which ones to leave behind. It’s a wonderful feeling. Enjoy!

Abundance is the place to go if you are a plus size woman looking for excellent quality and gorgeous design. As a young «fatshionista,» sometimes I find Abundance’s clothes a little mature for me, but nevertheless I respect the quality of the clothes and the obvious care that the buyers take with their selections.
Every time I’ve shopped at Abundance the staff has treated me like a goddess. They a wonderful women who understand a plus size woman’s figure and will dress you in the best.

Abundance lives up to its name.
This is a fabulous shop for a plus-​size woman who loves clothes, loves fabric, and loves her body. Clothing runs from moderately priced to rather expensive, and all comes with lots of personal service, knowledgeable encouragement, and respect.
While there are some conservative brands there (Eileen Fisher, etc.) there is also the wildly inventive, and the staff are helpful about suggesting things that you might not try on your own (bubble skirt? on ME? are you kidding? well… hmmm… I tried it and was dumbfounded. I liked it. And if I hadn’t liked it, they would not have pushed it.)
Abundance has the largest selections of Tianello and Vicky Vi separates and standards I’ve seen anywhere in sizes 14 – 26. They’ve also got lots of wilder stuff (URU, some labels I’d never seen before) and it is FUN.
