Looking for a place for lunch yesterday, someone recommended this bakery and deli. We were not disappointed! The sandwiches are made with Boar’s Head meats on your choice of freshly baked bread from the bakery. If you are still hungry after this sandwich, they have a wonderful selection of pastries,‘s cookies and cakes.

My only wish is that they open about 5:45. I work in the area and start at 6, so I have to come for lunchtime or after work. I would sooooo stop in and get pastries for the office if they had an earlier opening time. I have no self control when it comes to walking in this place and I want one of everything! Their breads are good, and cookies are excellent.

Just moved to ansonia from Bridgeport so I was already familiar with Chavez bakery as we have one in bpt but let me tell you this Shelton location serves up a breakfast sandwich called the hungry man and it is absolutely amazing!!! My new favorite place for breakfast sandwiches and baked goods yum!!!

My husband and I just moved to Shelton and I’m so happy we found this bakery. The baked goods are amazing and sometimes we even get sandwiches which are equally as delicious. Highly recommend! The staff is incredibly friendly and I’ve never had anything bad there.

The food is great. Good deli sandwiches, delicious bakery items. My family especially raves about the muffins and cookies. I normally get a ham sandwich with cheddar for lunches, which is reliably good. The service, on the other hand, varies from excellent to dismal, depending on who is working and who serves you. Some are quite generous and careful with your food. Others are quite parsimonious and careless. Best advice is to watch them closely in case you get one of the bad apples.

My sister has been jonesing Bear claws for a while. Yesterday stopped while so school kid was getting door to door service. I thought I’d pull in and get her one. Being late they were closing they were not available, but they happy to stop take my order and put in an order for today. She was so happy get them and gives them 5 s. They are really good.

Average at best. Food is good. Service is not. I frequent the deli and love the quality of meats and toppings. Side dishes(pasta and potato salad) lack flavor. I’ve had a few cakes and pastries and enjoyed those as well. If there is a line, expect to wait a solid 20 minutes. They do not know how to handle a crowd. They also tend to use additional toppings on your sandwich that you didn’t ask for– it’s annoying to clarify the info or(worse) get back to work and find out your sandwich is covered in something you don’t like. Try to avoid the stocky blonde chick who has a MAJOR attitude problem– every time I order from her, she rolls her eyes so much that I’m convinced her eyeballs are going to fall out of her head. Maybe that’s why I get extra toppings? She can’t see what she’s grabbing?

I’ve been to their other locations(Bpt.) & this one is run fairly well. I’ve got to be honest, I’ve only tried their bakery items, no deli stuff really. But the bakery items I’ve tried was VERY delish!!! Cakes/pastries. They will make things to order, just ask. Service has been fairly friendly. Prices are reasonable. I will return for sure!

Is this suppose to be a Portuguese bakery??? More Italian pastries than Portuguese. A few months ago I place a large order of several hundred dollars worth of pastries for an event. I pre-paid it and when I went to pick up the order they asked me to pay again, they claimed they didn’t have«record» of payment. So after nearly 15 minutes of back and forth, I showed them the payment to their establishment from my bank account on my phone. A wide apology and that was it. Rarely would I go back for pastries, not of sound quality.

We ordered hot dog and hamburger rolls for our Memorial Day picnic, also an anniversary cake. We were thrilled with everything! The rolls were like the ones we used to get from the old French’s Bakery in Stratford!!! We are so happy to have found rolls like this again — really makes anything you put in them extra delicious!!! The cake we got was delicious and beautifully decorated too!

It really is nice to have a bakery back in the downtown. Remember the Culinary Shop? A hard roll cost .60 cents I think thats a little expensive for a hard roll but thats just what I think.

another Chaves bakery in the fast growing empire of the Chaves Family!!! Wonderful Italian bread, excellent cakes and dessert. very good service and its easy to get to… Nice to have a neighborhood bakery again!
