Description

Specialties

The Ram’s Head Inn has offered the best of the East End’s agricultural endeavors and commercial fisheries since 1979. From our own island gardens to local farm stands to vineyards, our menus are designed to insure the the great natural flavors are not over powered by overly complicated preparations. It is due to this continued philosophy that the Inn has remained a favorite for weddings, family celebrations, corporate retreats and a cruising club destination.

Of course, the more than four acres of sweeping lawn dotted with Adirondack chairs and 800 feet of private beachfront with kayaks and lounge chairs, only add to the relaxed experience at the Inn.

And finally, when the sun has set over the water and the last drop of wine has been enjoyed, the Inn’s beds of pillow top mattresses and fresh cotton sheets offer the perfect way to say goodnight to the day.

History

Established in 1979.

The Inn was built in 1929 Ms. Jean Covey, an experienced woman in real estate and hospitality. The Inn has a rich history of owners and operators through the years who saw the Inn move from the elegant white jacket dining service of the 40’s & 50’s to the lively Irish focused operation by N.Y. Governor Carey’s family. The Inn changed hands in 1979 and while the hotel configuration remains the same as when Ms. Covey had the building constructed, the amenities have been updated to offer the comforts expected in a modern day property.

The restaurant is currently under the guidance of Chef Joseph Smith, who had his start in the kitchen when he was just 16 years old. He was mentored by Chef John Barton, who is currently a professor at the New England Culinary Institute, and guided the Inn’s kitchen from 1988 through 1996. Joe left the Inn and went on to increase and hone his culinary abilities. Needless to say, we are thrilled to have Joe leading our kitchen today.
