Joe Dumars Fieldhouse

Haven’t been here in a long time. I see it gets worse and worse every year! So sad it had so much potential. The whole place smells. The management in the bar seems to have gone downhill. Staff seems lazy in there and I didn’t once see a manager walk around, Greet or check on us. Bayou is decent it just feels dirty. Basketball and hockey courts are the only thing I would return for but I have much more options.

The parking lot here is a slip and fall injury attorney’s dream. It is full of potholes. Dangerous parking lot in winter full of ice, large holes and slippery. Indoors it smells terrible. Could use a thorough cleaning and multiple coats of paint. Coaches do not keep roller hockey parents informed of changes to schedule and make many changes to calendar at the last minute. Dirty, not well-​kept atmosphere.

I have to give a shout out to Joe Dumars Field House. Even though the place is jammed with local students on a field trip they let my granddaughter do a few activities today. Sure, I can understand the place is booked out for other’s, and she can’t do all she wants, but they didn’t turn her away and break her heart.
The place is huge. I’m secretly glad she can’t do much else. There’s a ton of activities, games and junk food.
The workers seem on top of everything.

I came here for my 15^th birthday party with 6 of my friends. This review is ONLY for the bayou section.
Here are the pros and cons
Pros: decent amount of stuff to do, things for people of all ages, the activities available are high quality and fun, good atmosphere
Cons: the staff must all hate their job cause that’s what their attitude said. The staff wasn’t at the activities, they were behind the counter and I had to go ask them to let me do a activity, and even when they did come they seemed like I was a burden. And the main thing I was looking forward too (the slot car race track) was broken!

I come to Dumars to play in their Little Caesars Roller Hockey League. I’ve played in 2 other leagues and I’ve never been disappointed in this place. The competition is high and there are lot of players to meet with many skill levels. What makes this place even better for hockey players is the bar. You can grab a drink and some decent bar food at a fair price. The service is always good and you can always count on them having any big games on TV.
This place is also great if you’re a basketball player and, from what I’ve heard, they hold leagues for some other sports. I did come to Dumars once to use their Fieldhouse of games and I remember having a good time but that was back before I was even in high school. Some things have changed since then but I still see kids running around and they always look like they’re having fun.
As a member playing in one of the hockey leagues, the only thing I would have to complain about is the officiating. Some of the officials do not seem comfortable and I’ve seen many shares of penalties that should have been called.

Clean and friendly place :) went out for a group whirlyball game and it was fun! Would def do it again and the staff was awesome!

I’ve been playing hockey here for ummmmm, I don’t know, a decade or more. That’s ten years in case anyone’s wondering. But yeah it’s roller hockey. It’s competitive and the leagues are matched up well. I think it comes out to close to $ 20 a game. I play ice hockey as well and it’s somehow only about $ 12 a game and that includes refrigerating the ice, resurfacing and locker rooms that you can fit a WHOLE TEAM in. The lockers at JDFH are pathetic. Imagine fitting 9 dudes in your bathroom at home. Actually, don’t imagine that. But point being, they’re small. I’m not exactly sure why it costs more to play there than Troy, Fraser, St Clair shores etc but it does. It’s literally a floor you roll around on. There is almost zero maintenance. Oh and if you play in the summer, don’t count on them going hard on the AC. They keep it roughly somewhere between 80° & 4,000° it feels like. It’s like bikram yoga, in hockey equipment. Again, cutting costs and charging more. If I didn’t love hockey so much I’d just not play here, but I’ll play anywhere.

Took my daughter and her friend here (11 year olds) — they thought it was ok.
They liked the laser tag — although they like zap zone better because it is bigger.
Daughters friend liked the high ropes course.
The good:

— games (many were old and broken)
— not the cleanest and best kept up place

Here for a group birthday party. Tons of activities. Five star for that. Food and drinks way underwhelmed… actually they sucked. And why don’t they plow the parking lot after it snows? Its a mess out there today 15 hours after it stopped snowing

If you love your children, take them elsewhere. I heard about the «Bayou Adventure» on Tuesday and was excited to take my kids there all week. I read about all the fun activities and the giant animatronic troll at the entrance, and I thought, «my kids are going to love this!»
Upon entering, we could only smell the funk of locker room and feet. Visually, I thought I was in the wrong place unless they were trying to pass it off as the smell of the swamp — and if the real bayou is anything like this, I’m staying out of Louisiana. More than half of the arcades were broken (and those that did would either eat your tokens or not give out the proper tickets), the slot car activity and animatronic troll were broken, the place was dirty, and the teenage employees have all the apathy of prisoners on work release. Like putt-​putt golf? They have a disheveled course littered with wood chips and no boundaries on many of the holes (hope you enjoy playing under a dark bridge and fishing golf balls out of a filthy makeshift pond for your young kids). My kids were so disappointed, and I was mad at myself for hyping them up for the «big surprise» on the weekend.
I hope this review keeps a few people out of this place. I wasted $ 30 here, and will never step foot in again. I can’t believe Joe Dumars’ name is on this place — I’d be ashamed if I were him. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to give my kids a bath to wash the filth off.

Such a strange place but super fun. It’s got every single form of entertainment under one seemingly tiny roof. It sort of looks like a small warehouse with multiple levels of entertainment. Actually it’s impossible to describe because they literally pile entertainment on top of entertainment. Like, above the trampoline is an obstacle course. Above this like, race track thing is a laser tag room. Then of course is the whirlyball which is why we were there. Never heard of it? Google it. Super fun, sort of sketchy equipment, literally had a car breakdown and a few balls get crushed, but whatever. Fun!

Went here with a group of my Wife’s coworkers and their family to play Whirlyball. I quickly realized I suck at scoring, but I’m really good at crashing high-​speed into people. Defense is my game! We got about an hour on the court, and it was a BLAST! The staff was friendly and helpful, and a good time was had by all (until the bruising set in the next day).
Afterward, the package included pop, beer, & pizza. The food was surprisingly good. Maybe the only down side was that the service in the bar was AWFUL. Slow, and uninterested is all I can say.
There are more things to do at this place than I’ve seen in any one establishment, so if you’re looking for somewhere to go to play B-​Ball, hockey, rock climb, putt-​putt, race cars, obstacle course, whirlyball, video games, etc. then you should give it a try!

Interesting selection of activities, but unless you’re there for hockey or basketball it’s sort of a turn off. The place smells like 100 dirty feet.
There’s a bar, which is a nice perk for the adults, but mixed drinks at the bar were quite expensive and not that good. The mini golf was under a dark staircase.
The laser tag was short but fun, as was the «high ropes» type course. I can definitely see taking a child there and having a good time for a couple of hours.
My sister left her Visa (a pre-​loaded rewards card) there and they «misplaced her card» but when she checked the balance found that someone had charged almost fifty dollars on it weeks after we had been there. I’m holding out hope that they make good on that situation but it’s been 5 weeks and no progress has been made yet.
