Hawksnest Snow Tubing and Zip Line

So much fun tubing with family and friends! Great staff and very friendly! Dress warm and buy tickets early as they tend to sell out fast!

It is a fun activity to get the kids out of the house for a winter weekend in the mountains. Things to remember:
1. Dress warm. We’ve had crying boys because of inappropriate gloves, shoes or waterproof pants
2. Go early in the day before the Charlotte and Greensboro day trippers but the first couple runs in the morning will be slow

My husband Ken and I did the Hawksnest Zipline today, 11 cables, 1.5 miles and 2 swinging bridges which offered the most beautiful scenic view of the NC mountains. The weather was amazing! Our guides Chelsea and Brad were so amazing, they were made us feel so comfortable and they were so patient. The operation was run so professionally and all the cable landings were very well built which really made us feel so safe. I am 64.5 years old and my husband is 71 we both wanted to get right back on and start all over again. Be sure that this was the most choice of Zipline experiences we could have ever chosen. Abby works with the the greeting guest and could not be nicer. Thank You Hawksnest!

Great experience — staff were knowledgable and patient. 11 different runs on our trip. Through the trees and over streams. Exhilarating in many ways. A must-​do for those looking for adventure with a little «edge»

My family and I enjoyed the zip line course so much. Our guides were great. They were good in instructing us and made us feel at ease.

Went zip lining here and had an excellent time! Guides were friendly and fun. Amazing!

We came here with some friends and my son. The price was totally worth it! The staff was nice, especially in the ski shoppe. We all came ill prepared for the blizzard that we walked into — but we were greeted with smiles and warmth (literally).
We had a BLAST. Though, when they tell you how to spot yourself from spinning, make sure you’re listening…

Zip lining was incredible! Seth and the other instructor were top notch and very patient with us beginners but it didn’t take long to get the hang of it (pun intended!) highly recommended!!! Also great for seniors we had a 66-​year-​old with us and he loved every second of it!

We went on 2÷28÷15. This is the second review I’ve tried to write regarding them. The first one was «filtered» by Unilocal’s automated system however I would recommend checking out the other ones since almost all of them are a rating of 2 or less. I will try and see if this one will get filtered too.
The sessions are more than other tubing places and are overbooked. There is a $ 5 parking fee and no organization to parking. Due to sessions being overbooked long waits in line to tube the main slope. It took 25 minutes the first time and 15 minutes the second time. The slopes were not groomed properly which resulted in only being able to tube ½ to ¾ down before walking down the remainder of the slope. I spoke with the owner regarding the long lines, parking, and slope condition. He dismissed my concerns (while rolling his eyes) & said my expectations were too high.
They are more concerned with making a buck than ensuring a good experience for their customers.

Hawksnest was our first experience snow tubing ever and we had a great time. It was suggested to us by a friend to go there. He also suggested that we buy our tickets in advance because they sell out quick for the time slots so if you show up and buy at the door you may have to wait 2hrs or more for your time block to tube. So we bought ours online and it was really easy to get right in. We tubed for a while then spent time at the bar on the 3^rd floor at the top of the building and it was a nice cozy place.
Our only complaint was that the drinks were a little pricey for what they were. $ 12 for a top shelf liquor drink was a bit much for a small bar at a snow tubing venue. We paid a dollar less than that the night before at a high end restaurant for the same drink. However other than that, we had a fun time, the staff was very friendly all around from the ticket counter to the guys on the slopes watching over everyone. I would recommend this to young and old alike!

Well organized…1 hr 45 min. is plenty of time. You will be exhausted after it is all said and done… then go inside and enjoy some hot chocolate!!!

We picked a great day on the slopes and had a blast. Fresh snow the day before and the place was freshly groomed. After a few runs the tracks were smooth and fast. Highly recommended to folks of all ages!
Next we’re coming back for zip-​lining!

Best family outing in a long time. Never noticed it was one of the coldest days of the year. We had a fantastic time! Ages ranged from 46 to 8 yrs old in our party of 5 and I think the 40 year old’s enjoyed it the most. Will definitely do this again. Thank you Hawksnest!

Kids — 11, 10, & 5 — had a blast! It was frigid, but they loved every frozen moment!
My wife and I actually forgot everyone’s gloves back home (5 hours away in Charleston, SC!) and didn’t realize until we arrived; thank God they had a great selection of gloves — a bit pricey, but beggars can’t be choosers, I’m told…
We definitely plan on driving up again in the Spring or Summer to check out the zip-​line excursions as well.

Came here with our family on a Sunday for 12pm tubing. They do have 8 lanes or more but the weather was prolly around 60 degrees for our visit. Soooo only 3 of the lanes were tubeable meaning you could make it the whole way down without stopping and having to walk the last ½ of the lane. They do have the magic escalators so there is no walking back to the lanes. Overall this is a great place. Very big lots of lanes and friendly service. The lodge (I guess you call it) is very big. Its 2 floors. It has a food area downstairs with mostly drinks chips snack type items. Upstairs is mostly seating areas. They also have a 2 large decks for watching with plenty of seating if your not up for the tubing! They have a couple of staff taking pictures while your there and photos are for sale if your interested when your tubing time is up. They have zip lining to but with a family of 5 that’s way out of our budget. There is also a gift shop with tshirts and hoodies. If you forgot your gloves or sunglasses they have those to!

Zip lines are awesome and the course at Hawks Nest is long and fun. The entire family had a blast and we’ll do it again soon.
Your safety is very much in the hands of your guides and here the guides were excellent and inspired confidence. That can be tricky because you’re trying to have fun, not needled with rules. I’ve no complaints in this department. The guides were top notch, safety conscious and a laugh.

Love the way each and every one of the employees treat each customer as if they are the only customer.
This is a once in a lifetime experience! It’s AWESOME and shouldn’t be passed up.

I wanted my 100^th review to be something really fun, and you don’t get much more fun than Hawksnest.
Picture it — Middle of Nowhere, NC, high in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I have a «thing» about heights, things that go fast, etc. Yet I find myself inexplicably drawn to the idea of a zip line. Go figure. Add to the anxiety of facing the fears, there is a lady in front of us pacing around, talking loudly on her cell. She was proclaiming that she was a «Zip line dropout. It was sooo scary and really high and just like a rollercoaster…» on and on, several different calls. By then, we were looking at each other with a «What have we done???,» wide-​eyed expression. We HATE roller coasters. But, we have already paid. In my book, that means no going back.
So we wait. By now we are pacing. Before too long a couple of people come up and size us up for helmets, harnesses, and really thick (like ¼+ in.) padded leather gloves. The harnesses weren’t as uncomfortable as they looked and there were none of the dreaded wedgie issues.
Then were the instructions, mostly on how to brake. Good information to have. I was a bit confused about which hand went where and at exactly what point one should apply the «brakes.» Too soon, it was time to go. There were 10 lines of varying lengths. You could do one and then opt out, if you went loony, like the lady with the phone. After that, you were in. We were accompanied by a «sender» and a «receiver.» On top of the first platform, I was fairly calm as I looked at the line. Not too high, not too steep. I tucked my legs and started down the line. I was very interested in the brakes. Too interested. I stopped about 10 ft. from the landing platform. The «receiver» patiently came out and sorta towed me in. Okay, that was embarrassing. Gotta lay off the brakes.
After that it got much better. Within about 2 more lines, I was not only getting to the platform, but nearly did a few «George of the Jungles.» Luckily, the receiver had had a LOT of practice catching people before they smashed into the platform.
It was nearly 3 hours of amazing zipping over the trees and water, watching wild turkeys strut below. It was more fun than I could ever have imagined. There was no similarity to a roller coaster.
Overall, I’d give Hawksnest «Two Hoots and a Holler!» Or 5 stars, because that’s all I get.
