Sunshine Herb & Lavender Farm

I’ve been to the Sunshine Herb & Lavender Farm several times over the past couple of years and always received the best of product and service. I had some questions about some products and the owner was on hand to answer them with an impressive depth of knowledge. I even asked her about which products would be safe for my friend with Celiac Disease, and she didn’t miss a beat. She really has the science down to an impressive degree and was patient with me despite the place being quite busy at that moment.
They have a line of products just for men, the Sports line, which I believe is tastefully done. That’s what I have experience with, and it’s been a very positive experience. They’re scented with masculine scents with just a touch of lavender that complements without making me smell like a woman (no offense if that’s you’re thing but it’s not mine).
Just walking into the store is an aromatic festival for the nose that everyone visiting Sequim should experience at least once, in my experience.

We have been here a couple of times and always gotten fantastic service. They have a large gift shop with a huge variety of merchandise. Even during the off-​season, they had a great selection in the gift shop as well as keeping a variety of lavender plants available for sale in various sizes and types.
This is our favorite lavender farm in the Sequim area. We’ll definitely be coming back here next time we’re in the area.

I too have driven pass and had always wanted to stop. Recently I had a chance to stop and check it out.
Being a small business owner myself I had a lot of questions about her product and the adorable barn.
You can see the pride in the building and landscaping. Is it really that surprising that they would NOT want people’s dogs taking a dump or peeing on their property! .let alone taking a picnic in their front yard or let your kids run around their gardens? Sometimes I think travelers take private land for granted, especially in Washington where so many of our public parks are landscaped and well kept.
The shop is open 6 days a week during the winter hours, tough to do and create inventory for the shop. By making product there it requires a commercial type kitchen due to FDA regulations — not cheap and not easy! Love the lavender drying up on the wood beams in the shop.
Will be stopping by again and supporting this business.

I’ve been going to The Sunshine Lavender Farm for over two years now. My husband and I make a special trip over there if I run out of shampoo. My recent trip was back in May of this year. I have purchased from them: eye cream, lotion, shampoo, hair conditioner, sleep balm, lavender oil for my skin and hair, lip balm, cookies, and a few other things. I absolutely enjoy and appreciate all the lavender products I have gotten from them. I have only met Carmen. She’s charming and eccentric. Her hair products are reasonably priced. The under eye cream is really nice… It doubles as the best makeup remover ever! It works beautifully… I love it. Sunshine Lavender Farm has a lot of different things. Respect the farm.

I loved the review about the Lavender Nazi… but no one mentioned Stalin and Mussolini inside. EEYIKES. I was excited to visit after driving past numerous times while visiting the area — now I’m sorry I stopped and more sorry my friend was treated so poorly. They’re incredibly slow, unfriendly, and condescending. I’d never encourage anyone to stop… unless you need fodder for a comedy routine.

Thank goodness this was the last stop on our lavender farm tours. We (my family and I) enjoyed our weekend from our vacation rental with the cows waking is in the mornings. The breath taking views, the friendly, informative and entertaining visits to several farms. We pulled up to Sunshine, an attendant met us and noting a dog crate in the bed of our truck instructed us to back up no pets. While we are very respective of property owners preferences, we as consumers have the right to expect civility from said owners. I suggest skipping this farm and drive further out.

Beautiful lavender farm — supposedly the biggest in Sequim. Nice shop with various interesting items for sale. BUT, as other posts pointed out, the Lavender Nazi does make it uncomfortable to visit. We arrived a bit before opening and he begrudgingly opened the gate and gave us an irritated glare. We may have offended him by arriving early and waiting outside the gate and taking a few pics from outside. LN was also quite rude to some people who had the audacity to speak to some workers cutting lavender. Really, if you have a farm that’s open to the public, you have to be pleasant. Hard to say what it is about the lavender farming business that makes these folks so unhappy. Even the cashier in the store seemed pained to be there. Nice farm, but I recommend stopping by the side of the road for pictures and purchasing lavender products elsewhere.

Great service and great products. The guy let me take a bunch of pictures and let me use the bathroom. I didn’t even buy anything. I guess sometimes you just have to be nice. Kindness goes a long way.

I had the mis fortune of meeting the Lavender Nazi today! As we pulled up to the Lavender Farm, we found it was closed. Being a little dissapointed we parked just outside the gate and stepped out of our car, just to take a few pictures of the beautiful lavender flowers. But before we even snapped a picture… the Lavender Nazi man showed up! He was walking briskly towards us and already yelling! He claimed that he was the owner and that this was privated property and we were not allowed to park outside of the gate; nor take any pictures. We mentioned we were just going to take a picture then leave, but this guy just went on and on.
I just could not believe how rude he was. As we left, the people across the street even said they were NOT very nice there! I agree… this review is directed to the man, the Lavender Nazi. Maybe he shouldn’t have a business where he deals with people. Did he not know… he had the mis fortune of running into a Unilocaler???

LAVENDER LASH OUT
We drove from Kansas City to Port Angeles for a great NW vacation. On the way home we stopped at Sunshine Farm, which my wife and mother-​in-​law were looking forward to since seeing it on the drive in. To be fair, we did have a pull behind travel trailer, so instead of parking in the lot we pulled off to the side of the driveway that leads up to the store. While the ladies were shopping to buy what was surely to be a lavender sampler basket, my father-​in-​law and myself pulled some sandwiches out of the camper to feed the kids. Meanwhile, my youngest boy ran through the sprinkler that was running two times, barely enough to get wet. The lavender lady immediately came running out of the store, across the parking lot, and proceeded to scold us, and I quote «this is a retail shop and not a rest stop» and that my child was being irresponsible by running through the sprinkler which had the potential to distract guests coming in to her shop. I will concede the point that we probably should have been more discrete about eating our lunch. But really? As a business owner, would you really care if someone grabbed a quick bite while others in their party were shopping? And to address the concern in such a contrite way was a huge turnoff. My wife was also taken back by the number of «warning» signs throughout the store. Needless to say, I called my wife in the store and they politely put all the merchandise back on the shelves and we patronized another local lavender shop which actually welcomed kids with open arms. Perhaps someone should buy this property and turn it in to a rest stop. But before you get any ideas, make sure to hire a front desk manager that actually enjoys people.

Beautiful grounds but the service is seriously lacking. The lady at the counter did not smile once at us even while buying our lavender salts. Should have just left them behind but oh well. And no bathrooms. They do have a butt hit available though. My husband thought about buying ice cream but wasn’t greeted with a friendly smile or hello so he declined to patronize.

I am saddened by the negative reviews posted on this site. I have been coming to Carmen’s family farm for a couple years and my experience has always been very pleasant. In fact when my husband has accompanied me he has had to drag me away as I could spend hours there.
Carmen is very kind and happy to share her passion of farming lavender and creating various healthy products. I usually come away having learned something new. I have tried many of her products and find them to be of good quality.

After a friend recommended this place, we parked in their lot late in the afternoon on our way back to Seattle. First thing I saw were signs warning that dogs are not allowed (I thought they meant «in the building»), so while my friend went inside, I let my small seizure dog out in the parking lot. Immediately a snarling woman came bounding out from nowhere telling me that the dog must go back in the car. I explained that he was a service dog & she snarled that she’d need to see his papers, which I had. (I had never planned on bringing him inside anyway.) I put him in the car & proceeded to the shop where outside I was greeted with a sign saying «No shoes with metal cleats» (who wears metal cleats outside of athletic events?) & another saying «Children must be attended by adults at all times» hmmmm. Upon entering I admired the displays of massive amounts of lavender hanging off the rafters when I saw the first of many signs reading «No photos in the store»…okay…whatever.
Why? Does photography ruin lavender? Am I going to open a competing shop next door? As I moved around the store I was taken (not by the variety & quantity of products) but by the number of warning signs. So soon I began jotting down the verbiage from the various laminated warning signs: «Thank you for not opening products», «Shoplifting is a crime», «Please do not open products» (another version of the afore-​mentioned sign), «Please spritz paper strips & not the air», «Parents please keep children by your side at all times» (that was the second type of parental warning sign), «no photos in gift shop» (another version of the warning on the front door). Though there were others, the same snarling woman who greeted me in the parking lot had finally acknowledged me & snarled as to whether she could help me. I told her that since I couldn’t take pictures, I was taking notes. She glared. I left (which is what she seemed to have wanted in the first place).
I THOUGHT THAT LAVENDER WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE CALMING EFFECTS!?! Clearly Sunshine lavender doesn’t work!!!
I say stay away from this place & go to any other lavender farm… maybe even a large Safeway which may offer lavender something where one is treated with more friendliness & fewer signs!!!

Went with the family, grand parents, wife, 3 kids, and myself. The place is not family friendly at all.
There are signs on every isle of the gift shop saying how your children need to be attached to your side at all times and make sure they do not touch or stare too hard at anything. Also do not open or sample anything!
Out side in the farm area was not much better. We were yelled at because our kids where walking in bark. From the street it seems very much like a family friendly fun enjoyable place. Don’t judge a book by its cover. 5 minutes and we were all ready to be out of there.

I actually really liked this place. It’s a nice lavender farm to stop at on your way to Olympic national park. I didn’t have any problems with the owners the way other people describe, and I probably will drop by again next time I’m in the area.

ALSO dying over Brian’s review, lol. My partner and I stopped in today for the first time and… instantly creeped out. The signage alone was insulting. (Haven’t been told NOT to do so many things since, well, kindergarten.) After a «complimentary shop lap,» we split. Quickly. Thankfully, we’d just came from Purple Haze up the road – where we’ll continue to visit and take out-​of-​towners.

I have mixed reviews about this place… the store has one of the most impressive displays of lavender that I’ve seen. They have lavender EVERYTHING — salts, sugars, bath products, oils, candles, teas — and a LOT of different options for each. I wandered around suddenly needing everything in the store.
They also have a cute little café with lavender ice cream, cookies, tea, coffee, etc. I opted for a lavender camomile tea with lavender simple syrup which was delicious.
However, the communication with the woman who worked there was just off. If I had found out that she was hard of hearing, it wouldn’t surprise me — but I don’t think that was the case. We asked her a few questions to which she just ignored us and never answered, even though we asked a few times and she was making eye contact with us. It was strange.
I didn’t have a chance to check out the other lavender stores but selection-​wise, this is a good one.

I am still in stitches over Brian’s Lavender Nazi review. I got the same vibe. I would have given a much better rating for the first few times we have gone over the past several summers, but our most recent stop was not a good one.
I brought a friend from Los Angeles when we were on our way out to the Hoh Rain Forest. She loves lavender and went on a crazy buying spree. She spent over $ 100 and I spent closer to $ 40. We both got one product that I was fairly sure was the same thing I had purchased last summer. They didn’t have any testers so we just went ahead and got it. We got to our hotel that night and I opened my bottle, took one squirt and hated the scent. It wasn’t at all the one I had purchased before.
We went back the next day and the owner seemed really miffed that we didn’t like it. She said they didn’t do returns, but begrudgingly added some lavender scent to the bottle I had opened. It still wasn’t what I was looking for but I said forget it and took it anyway (I had paid for it after all). She agreed to do an exchange for my friend. She got another product that didn’t have a price tag on it (a duplicate of something she had gotten the day before). The owner called it an even exchange but when we got back home my friend realized that the price difference between the two was $ 4.
I know $ 4 isn’t much, it was just the principal and the attitude. I was embarrassed for having brought her in and had such a bad experience especially with as much as she spent. There are other places locally that have similar products so we will be taking our business elsewhere next time.

TOTALY DISAGREE WITH 1ST REVIEW! why would you think it’s a ‘Nazi’ store because they ask you NOT to take photos or NOT to open THEIR products or such? There was a HUGE table of many of their products for you to test… What’s wrong with a sign stating «thank you for not…» at least they started out with «THANK YOU»…I think they have every right to post such a sign in THEIR store.
Guess some people think they should be allowed full reign of an establishment when they enter… ever think the store has had problems in the past with customers? Just thought a rude, condescending review…
My take on this awesome lavender farm/​store:
What a big store consisting of a huge amount of lavender products!
Since we went in September, we were not in the ‘lavender season’ so not much to see on the farm, but the Sunshine store is HUGE!
The lady behind the counter was quite and let us do our shopping, but also helpful when we had questions.
I purchased some vanilla/​lavender body mist and both my friend and I got an oil of lavender, peppermint and eucalyptus which you apply to your temples (and we rubbed some on the outside of our nostrils) and automatically clears your sinus’ and gets rid of any headache you may have at the time! GREAT STUFF!
The back room they even have ice cream you can get.
There were so many other products I wanted to get here, but knew we would be hitting other lavender farms/​stores so did not purchase more. Sure wish I had, the other lavender farms/​stores did not have anywhere near as many items or selection of lavender products as Sunshine did… unfortunately we did not make it back to Sunshine so did not get the other products I really wanted. :(
Will definitely stop here next year and purchase alot on our annual BFF trip through the Olympic Peninsula!
