JR Cigar – Selma

Use to stop here every trip when I smoked for my cigarettes. I would always take a walk through as they always seemed to have so much stuff and the prices were pretty good. A cigar room, Christmas area, books, clothing, fragrances, Dolls, boots etc
Worth a stop on your drive through.

Just went in to the remodel store. I was very disappointed. Great chairs and lounge area with three tv’s. But little thought was put into the remodel. Cigar stock cut down. The pipe tobacco is now a joke. Prices are higher and the bulk selection is all gone. In essence they now sell cigarettes with a cigar option. I will not be back again.

If your in the area you definitely need to stop in and see the new layout of the smokers lounge. I am sure that folks that were used to see JR as a complete store will be surprised. But the folks that like settling down to a nice cigar of cigarette will be pleased. They have 3 sitting areas and a place to play chess. The removed the small smokers area from the old shop and expanded the area so that you have different areas to congregate. This was really nice because even for an avid CIgar smoker. The previous location was stifling with smoke from different Cigars. Great job on the new location.

Bought box of JR Ultimate Double Corona. Prices here are higher than in the the online catalogue. I won’t be shopping here again.

New J.R. Cigar is awsome. Same knowledgeable staff but incredible new facility in the same place. Best cigar and place to hang out and relax in the entire area. If you like a tobacconist and not a head shop. This is the place. Again great and informative staff

Best cigar selection and prices on the east coast!

Starting in 2016 JR no longer carries retail merchandise!!! New owners have destroyed one of the best stores in America by abolishing the retail and only selling tobacco related products. It is a very sad day for all of us!

Really bummed that this store has decided to go to all cigars and cigarettes today is the last day for all of the fantastic deals and goodies they used to sell in their outlet section. We would always stop here on our travels up and down the coast I could spend hours in the store. Very disappointed

Still a good store to visit. Store is shrinking by the week. Price for pipe tobacco has gone up 2.55 per oz. Tin prices have gone way up and looks like they are out of a lot most of the time. Get the feeling that they are leaving the pipe side and just focusing on Cigars. Still like to visit but harder to get service in the bulk side. Cigars prices are flip flop as well. Got two with beetles. Was not replaced.

Great selection of cigars, pipes, and tobacco. Not much more needs to be said, I don’t know of a larger selection anywhere i have traveled to for work or leisure. The staff is friendly and helpful.

This seems to be a place where all tired fashions, linens, etc. come for a last chance of purchase. The place is large and there is a great assortment of items available. However, if you a a cigar smoker then this is a required stop. The selection is massive and there are plenty of accessories available from lighters to some quite attractive humidors. Prices here are very goo;, and staff will assist you find what you are looking for; and offer suggestions, if your preferred brand isn’t available.

This store was… Interesting. It’s a completely random collection of stuff. Mostly cheap stuff, although we found some fun things. I can see the appeal mostly for tobacco products. They sold us a lighter that didn’t work. Unless you’re going for cigarettes, try the Tanger outlets for better quality.

I would travel to Selma at least once a month to get my cigar fix when I was stationed at Fort Bragg. Wide selection of cigars, knowledgeable staff, and military discount. Now that I’m overseas I still can get my brand shipped to me without delay (APO) and with the military discount.

Mostly just cheap quality stuff that’s way over priced. Want a Timex watch for $ 40 that would cost you $ 25 at WalMart? A $ 15 hooded sweatshirt that’s around $ 10 at Kmart? Then come here. Oh and it smells RANK in here too. A mix of cigarettes cigars and oldness.

4 stars for cheap cigarettes. It’s a fun place to just walk around as well.

Any one who has taken the drive up or down the east coast through the Carolinas knows there are two things you see wherever you look. South of The Border signs and signs for J&R !!! South Of the Border is a tourist trap pile of shit to put it simply. J&R is an amazing everything in one place store. A huge walk in humidor for all you cigar lovers. They have always had some of the best prices for cigars. A massive selection of discount cigarettes. Clothes, patio furniture, wine, candy, watches, perfumes and cologne. You getting my drift here? There is pretty much nothing that you can’t find here. Prices are decent too! The place is massive and will delay your trip by at least an hour! Not a bad way to stop your ride and get to stretch your legs for a while.

How can you drive past this place and not stop? And then… when and/​or if you do stop — how do you not buy anything?!
JR’s is packed full of knick knacks galore. Forgot your toothpaste, grab some here. Want some ice cream, stop in for a scoop. Need to pick up a bathing suit for a reasonable price, a baking pan or some sheets — JR’s has it all!
Since I was a youngster, I always made it a mission to have my parents stop off at Exit 97, so that I could jump right into the heaping mounds of JR gloriousness! This past trip, I managed to snatch up a dog beg, 2 necklaces (2 bracelets were included for free), a dog bone, dog toys, a donut pan and some snacks for only $ 45. How can you beat those prices?! If you haven’t been to JR’s… you are missing out and should seriously consider stopping in next time you get the opportunity!

This is a slightly discounted .05% upgrade from Walmart. They have everything from Christmas decorations, swimming gear, kitchen utensils, bedding, hunting and fishing supplies, toiletries, clothing, limited wine collection, you name it. No really food or grocery section but a few snacks and some cheap wines in the front of the store. A few highlights — they carry name brand items clothing they had some women’s items from New York Company, Elle Style & Co and some others, discounted name brand mascara Maybelline, Loreal and Cover girl, there is a health/​beauty supply section with shampoo face wash and soaps. If you need a Walmart and don’t want to go off the beaten trail or far from 95 this will work. Stop by!

JR Cigars was founded by a third-​generation New York stogie-​peddler named Lew Rothman. I don’t know who the «J» in JR is and they’re not talking. His first store was a tiny hole-​in-​the-​wall in New York he ostentatiously named «The World’s Largest Cigar Store.» He did things like throwing the boxes away — then contracting with his supplier to ship him unboxed cigars — to save space.
And then Rothman went broke. To get back to financial health, he did something most people would consider insane: he borrowed $ 20 million from the bank and built this store. Y’see, Lew knew you can’t make huge money selling cigars unless you’re where huge numbers of people are… and Selma, NC, is almost exactly halfway between New York City and Daytona Beach, Florida on the busiest Interstate Freeway in the eastern US. Everyone’s daddy told them, «you’ve got to spend money to make money.» Lew Rothman actually did it. Since he built this place, he’s made enough to allow him to build a major cigar empire including manufacturing, importing, warehousing, wholesale, retail and mail-​order/​online. Fully 80 percent of the cigars smoked in the United States today were handled at some time by the Rothman colossus. Want to know how big this empire is? He has a 120,000-square-foot warehouse in Burlington that looks like the inside of a Home Depot, except it’s 150 percent larger than an actual Home Depot… and he sells through it 12 times per year.
Lew Rothman makes his money two ways. Obviously the first is the sale of unbelievable amounts of quality tobacco products. The other is that he’s a scrounger. This guy will buy, for pennies on the dollar, anything he can get his hands on that he can sell on a shelf in a store, and he can sell things you can’t imagine anyone actually wanting. If you just happen to have a 40-​foot container full of left-​handed kumquat peelers in a fetching shade of chartreuse, Lew Rothman will buy it from you. And then he will sell every one of them. The Shamwow Guy ain’t got nuthin’ on Lew Rothman.
Obviously you aren’t going to drive 600 miles to go to a flea market, so what’s up with the cigar department? Go in there and you’ll see cigars on tables and cigars on bookshelves. The sticks on bookshelves are his standard brands, the stuff he’ll always have. The sticks covering every inch of the tables are all these weird stogies he bought up for pennies on the dollar. You can find some great deals on the tables but don’t fall in love because when they’re gone, there ain’t no mo. Anywhere. In the WORLD. The prices are reasonable, the selection is fantastic and finding the place is no problem at all.

What a great place. I went for the cigars and ended up browsing the rest of the store because I was amazed at the variety of stuff that they carry.
The employees in the cigar store were very helpful and polite. There is just too much product. I recommend that you peruse their catalog before you get there. They didn’t have the Rocky Patel 15^th Anniversary that I was looking for. Bummer. Still got plenty of stock for the humidor. Nice selection of samplers. I grabbed four samplers and some of my regulars. I splurged on a nice Xikar torch lighter, too.
I stopped in during my return trip from Florida and left an hour later with a nice load of stogies that would have cost much more up in the Northeast due to tobacco taxes. It was a nice haul that provided plenty of entertainment for the rest of the ride home.
TIP: If you can’t make it to the store, don’t fret. You can order online and not pay the state sales tax. Sweet.

It’s the worlds largest cigar store! What more could you ask for?

This is one of those I-​95 tourist traps with signs about 100 miles out in both directions.
It is a gigantic warehouse full of… stuff. Cheap Stuff. Anything and everything you can think of at discount prices.
Not sure why it’s called JR cigars… but they do have a nice Cigar shop in the back after you get through all of the other knick knacks there. It’s not just random stuff, they seem to also have some name brands there as well. I picked up quite a few cute work appropriate tops here.
I won’t lie. its pretty Red Necky in there… however…its part of the fun! You city folks need to lighten up… I found the employees there to be very nice and helpful.

I stop here whenever I drive down to Florida for couple cartons of Marlboro. They are less expensive than where I live so I save some money. I have a feeling there are placed selling them for less there. The gas station had a sign showing a little lower of a price and I wondered if it would have been had I just bought them there.
It’s a dollar less if one pays cash.

This place is nuts. They spend more money on advertising than they do on their inventory. Definitely worth a look if you’re driving through and want cheap cigarettes. Their cigar shop is also something to behold. There are people actively smoking in there. To a girl from Massachusetts, it just seems like all sorts of wrong.
JR is like a huge, less cheerful Christmas Tree Shop. They have everything from fake designer perfumes to assless chaps to fake vintage Coca-​Cola memorabilia.
The bathrooms stink of floral cleanser, but I hope that means they’re as clean as they look.

Hubby stops here to check out cigars while I buy popcorn and walk around.
Security is tighter than the airport for all this junk, (except the cigars). Def a different class of people here. Hey, if you are one of «them», come and be merry. I prefer the Walmart crowd to this, yea, thats how low I think this place is.
Sorry. Still a good time killer and rest stop if you need one as you travel by the interstate like we do. Btw, humidor is huge, good selection but we find better deals near home in Bonita Beach.
