I love this place. Been here 3 times and all 3 times the food was phenomenal! Don’t really recommend certain places to people but felt inclined about this place. Staff is great, friendly, and food is made quickly. You must try the San Jose burrito! You will fall in love too! Sorry… tried to take a photo of the food but couldn’t hold back shoveling it all in my mouth. Trust that it is worth the trip. Prices are very good also. See you there.

This place was beautifully designed and really gives you the ethnic feel They had fantastic guacamole ordered to taste They had trivia night which made it more enjoyable The four star rating is for the seafood chimichangas — I will say I am very picky about my chimmys and it didn’t meet my standard

Table side prepared guacamole was the best we have ever had anywhere! Really enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. Shrimp dish was delicious. Salad/grilled shrimp dinner was excellent. Waitress and service were great. Pleasantly surprised. Will definitely return!

Attended an event in the large back room this past weekend. Although they knew we were all going to be there, I did think the service was a little slow. However, the food was REALLY awesome. I’ll definitely be back — I love mexican food. The chips were yummy and the salsa was sweet(not spicy at all). I had a hard chicken taco and a bean and rice enchilada — so so good!

Plaza Azteca has actual Mexican food. Reeeeeally good Mexican food for this area. Definitely pricey but the portion sizes are large and the quality is just rare as hell in this area. On top of the food being great, the décor is nice and the staff is friendly and on it!

Guacamole and house margarita were not good. What saved the day was dinner. My wife had fish and I had Mexican steak. Excellent. I like the décor. Work on your drinks and guac.

Went here tonight for dinner. The place was dead for a Sunday night, and after tonight I know why. Ambiance: 5⁄10. Décor was cool but a bit much for the five people that were in the restaurant. Service: 6⁄10. Hostess was condescending and flirting with waiters the whole time. Our waitress was pleasant and attentive, but there was a slight language barrier that made ordering difficult. Not a huge deal though. Food: 3⁄10. The house margarita tasted like a large glass of sour mix with a splash of dirty dish water. Not good. The chimichangas and chimurrito were bland but edible with huge portions(esp. the chimurrito). Free chips and salsa were the best part about the meal. Now, all of this could have been tolerable, but a little while after we got home, my friend and I became VERYILL. I do not have a sensitive stomach and eat Mexican food all the time. I would avoid this place solely on this. Save the money and get Taco Bell for similar results. :(

I have been here a few times and each Time have been happy with my experience. Everyone who works there is very friendly and I’m greeted quickly. I generally sit at the bar and someone brings me over complementary chips right away. The same woman is always my server at the bar and she is always great. Friendly and answers my questions about the menu. She checks on me and makes sure my drink is filled. The food is very good. I had chimichangas and they error loaded with lots of delicious cheese. It comes with rice and beans and I found that tasty too. I had a sangria and it was decent. Some reviews complain about the price of the drinks. One thing is that there are a lot of different kinds of tequila. The kind and quality you get dictates the price. If you want«house«tequila the price is reasonable. If you start getting into more rare and pricey tequila the price of the drink will go up. So if you don’t want a 14 $ drink don’t order it. :) I love the food there and the service and will Be back for sure.

Food was very bland but the drinks were ok. Services was good. The place is always dead so you should never have a problem finding a seat. It always seems that everything that comes into this building never lasts. It’s in a weird spot to get to off the highway. The chicken in my meals was very salty and dry. Plenty of other options in the area that just simply do it better. I’d say at best it’s an ok place to go get some drinks.

Came here on a Saturday evening for a dinner date with the Wifey. We were seated as soon as we walked in, I was truly surprised by this seeing it was a Saturday night and it was pretty busy. Interior décor is very nice and pleasing to the eye. Really nicely done!!! Waitress was very pleasant. Service overall was pretty slow, not sure if this is typically the case in general. It could be slow this evening due to it being a bit busy. Food was excellent!!! Super fresh and great quality. I must say this place truly offers authentic Mexican food. We have been to multiple Mexican restaurants and visited Cancun twice. We know true authentic Mexican food. This place is it!!! I went with the their steak plate. It was awesome!!! It came with rice, beans, guacamole, and three wraps on the side. Wife had one of their salad plates. Overall, we were both satisfied with our experience and definitely will return in the future.

Plaza Azteca was great. You really need to try the Piña-loca. It’s a mix grill of chicken, steak, peppers, onion, and pineapple. Served in half of a pineapple with rice and corn on the side. It’s fantastic. Also the table side fresh made Guacamole was great. A fresh take on Mexican. Really enjoyed it!

The food here is great better then most Mexican restaurants. Prices are good and the atmosphere is really nice. The only reason Im not giving it a 5 is because I have had better Mexican food. I had the steak burrito which was HUGE and delicious.

I lived in Dan Diego for 25 years, so I know hood Mexican food. I was surprisingly delighted with this restaurant. The service was top notch and the food was tasty. Most Mexican restaurants in New England have soggy food and bland flavors. I had a chimichanga. It was crispy and the meat was shredded beef, not hamburger. I was here for lunch and was abit dismayed that the lunch crowd was not larger. I hope more people discover this new gem. I’d like it to survive in an area that already has lots of competition.

As soon I was figured out they were turning this spot into a Mexican restaurant, I anxiously counted down the days until I’d be able to grab a quick bite without having to drive into Providence. I’m pretty sure my friends and family were real sick of listening to me talk about it. But then I tried it and it was radio silence from then on out. I’m a self professed Mexi-holic and really love me some Mexican food. All kinds really. Tex Mex, Baja, Yucutan & Mayan, high end fancy pants NYC Mexican food, hole in the wall kiosk type Mexican food. Really, I love it all. But Plaza Azteca does not serve Mexican food I’d want to eat again. The fish tacos were a rip off. The portion was tiny and I’m pretty sure the«special chef’s sauce» was Miracle Whip. Gross. The rice and beans served with the Flag Enchiladas were totally bland and the rice was very under cooked. Also, my dinner date complained that the filling in each was total mush and had a hard time distinguishing one filling from the next. Overall the best part of the meal were the chips and salsa. Service was ineffective. I ordered a margarita to start and when I finished it, I was asked several times by three different waitstaff if I wanted a refill, which I refused each time yet they never took the empty glass away, thus prompting everyone to keep asking if I wanted a refill. Also, I never received the glass of water I asked for twice. The décor is like something out of Disney World, faux authentic. I can see how some people who frequent chains like Applebee’s or Chili’s might be fooled into thinking this is somehow any nicer than those places but it’s not; trust me. This review may be harsh but it really is necessary. You can’t open up a sub-par Mexican chain in an area where there are PLENTY of other Mexican options that are way better and way more authentic. Hell, Chipotle tastes more authentic than Plaza Azteca.

I’ve been here twice now and I feel confident with my three star rating. The first time was lunch at the bar. Complimentary chips and salsa were tasty. My large skinny margarita was a LOT of ice and not much alcohol for $ 15. The tableside guacamole was great. I ordered the fajita quesadilla off the lunch menu. After the bartender confirmed the order I was surprised to see an enchilada or burrito show up. They corrected it within a few minutes. After checking the tab, the bartender rang it in wrong. It was tiny. It was only $ 9, but tiny. I had the guacamole and almost a whole basket of chips by myself, so I didn’t leave hungry, but be warned the lunch quesadillas are small. I decided to give them another try today and again things were just a bit off. The small margaritas were loaded with ice and were $ 12. Tableside guacamole was once again tasty, but we never got napkins. The waitress came by twice to wipe down the table while we were having the guacamole and salsa, but didn’t bring napkins until we were done. I ordered the Flag enchiladas, one beef, one chicken and one cheese. The food was delivered and it was nice we had napkins, but no utensils. We kept trying to flag someone down with no luck. After almost ten minutes my husband got up to hunt down the waitress. After she brought us the utensils, it seems like another waiter took over our service. We never saw her again. The manager also came by to check on us and gave my husband a coupon for a free appetizer on our next visit. My enchiladas were meh. Nothing special, kind of bland and the chicken appeared to be dark meat. I’ll give them another shot, but it’ll be a few months to see if they work a few kinks out.

This restaurant is BEAUTIFUL! You’ll feel like you’ve walked into a sleek & sophisticated Mexican paradise the minute you step into the room. We started off with the Fresh Guacamole which is made to order tableside. Be sure to have dollar bills handy for the tip jar that sits atop the portable guacamole station. The guacamole was fresh and flavorful. I loved that we were able to choose our spice level(mild, medium or hot). I ordered the San Jose Burrito(10″ burrito stuffed with grilled chicken, crema fresca, chorizo, rice & beans, topped with creamy cheese dip & pico de gallo). This burrito was big enough to share(which is great, because I wanted to try everything). Well seasoned & flavorful, I would definitely order this again. The Tres Leches cake, with a raspberry sauce, was very heavy, but good. I would only order this if you’re planning on sharing it with someone, otherwise the staff will have to roll you out of the building. The prices are on the higher side, but well worth it for the quality and service you receive. Although I didn’t order a margarita, their cocktail list was very colorful and appealing.

We arrived for dinner at 5:15 and were seated fairly quickly. We figured this was a good sign since it seemed busy, little did we know the chaos that would ensue. First off, the restaurant was also so loud it was difficult to even have a conversation. We mostly sat and smiled at one another since it was too loud to hear across a small 2 person table. Our waitress greeted us while clearing another table and then walked away. We waited another 10 minutes before seeing her again. We put in drink orders and an order of their table side guacamole. Our drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive. My boyfriend’s house margarita had a long black hair in it and my skinny margarita had no agave sweetener. We then sat for over 10 minutes waiting for our waitress to come back. We pointed out the issues with our drinks and asked for them to be made again. She came back after another 15 minutes with correctly made drinks and admitted that she had to go to another bartender to have them made correctly. Our table side guacamole came next. This was the only reason Plaza Azteca deserves any stars. The waiter made us a delicious and fresh guacamole. After another 20+ minutes our food arrived and we put in another drink order. My boyfriends burrito was two small flour tortillas filled with chicken and onion, covered in a cheese sauce. He asked for beans instead of rice, but got the rice with no beans. He said the food was pretty horrible and very clearly not any form of a burrito. It appeared to be more of an enchilada meal. My steak quesadilla looked appetizing. However, after pulling it open to look at the meat I realized there was no cheese on the to portion. After a few bites I found a gritty, American like cheese product. It tasted just like Kraft singles. I ate around the cheese until I started feeling unwell. Our second order of drinks arrived but I was too ill to sit any longer. Our waitress asked if I was ok, clearly seeing I wasn’t doing well. I felt sweaty and waves of nausea hit me. We asked for the check and paid as quickly as possible without taking more than a sip of our new drinks. I’m now sitting at home, fighting back the worst nausea of my life. We paid $ 67, which clearly accounted for all the drinks we didn’t end up having. The food was horrible and we sat waiting for drinks and food for entirely too long. Our waitress admitted to being barely trained(we even witnessed her putting a full drink on the back seat of a booth which almost spilled on a guest). If I can give you any advice, it would be to stay away.
