We are located in the historic town of Sedro-​Woolley, Washington, USA, «The Gateway to The North Cascades and The American Alps.» The mountain shop provides the finest quality rentals and retail equipment available for camping, hiking, climbing and other outdoor pursuits.

Best of all we are experienced climbers and guides who actually use the items we sell so we can provide you with help in selecting the right equipment as well as suggest the right trail to take a hike on or mountain to climb.

Craig Van Hoy, owner and director, has been climbing and guiding in the Pacific Northwest for over 35– years. Through Northwest Mountain Guides we offer guided hiking and mountaineering trips in the Cascades and Olympic mountains. With our partner company Go Trek, (www​.GoTrek​.com) we have international tours, treks and climbs all over the world. Our destinations include exotic locations such as Nepal, Mexico, Russia, Africa, SE Asia, and Argentina. Join us on an international adventure for the experience of a lifetime!

History

Established in 1975.

Craig is recognized as one of the finest mountain guides in the world. He has over 400 summits of Mount Rainier by 19 different routes. In 1989 he reached the summit of Kangchenjunga as part of the first American ascent. 8568 meter Kangchenjunga is the third highest mountain in the world. Craig has participated on three expeditions to Mount Everest, two via the Northridge and one from the South Col which led to a successful summit in 2004. Craig has also summited the «Seven Summits». As owner of Northwest Mountain Shop & NW Mountain Guides, Craig is a year-​round guide and leads the Northwest Climbs as well as expeditions to Aconcagua and the to Mexican Volcanoes. Craig is an AMGA certified Alpine Guide.

He is fluent in Spanish and proficient in Nepali. In Latin America he has guided many expeditions in Bolivia, Ecuador, Argentina and Mexico. In 2013 Craig completed his 20^th successful summit of Aconcagua and 53^rd summit of Pico de Orizaba (more than any other American guide).
