Design Within Reach Annex

Liked this place. Can see how it’s hit or miss but isn’t that true of all outlets? If you like modern furniture, it’s a must-​check-​out. Don’t expect bargain basement prices though — you’re getting better prices than DWR proper but it’s still DWR.

I actually made a trip down from Boston to check this place out as I had been meaning to do for years as a collector of mid-​century modern. Overall the staff is great, selection (and relative condition) of merchandise varies widely, but if you get to know the staff they will alert you when items matching your description and taste become available. There are certainly good values here, you just have to be patient, persistent and carefully inspect everything before buying. Minus one star for the off putting location and complex. The complex is basically a deserted outlet mall with just DWR and a tiny discount perfume shop.

I just went here yesterday. The staff were all really friendly and I made out with a couch, a chair and a tray. Great prices for as-​is items. Each of the pieces I bought had small imperfections. Some of the furniture I saw seemed really nice and I couldn’t see anything wrong and the discount was not very steep.
Depending on how handsy/​craftsy you are, you can fix some items. In the case of the ones I bought, there were scratches on the leather couch and recliner but I am sure I can hide/​camouflage them! I just wish my apartment were smaller so I could have gotten more items…
Delivery (as of yesterday, Nov 14 2015) was $ 125 for the first item and $ 25 for each additional item) so I think that’s OK for delivery to Manhattan from Secaucus.
These are high end items so folks expecting McDonald’s prices for Kobe steak will be disappointed. Right now, there’s a 20% off sale so do sign up online for their sales. I never would have known about the annex/​warehouse, otherwise. Today, I’ll be going to the one in BK
Oh yeah, for us NYC denizens without a car, the 129 NJ Transit bus leaving from Port Authority literally lets you out within the equivalent of a block from this location. Also note that the stop where you get left off is the stop where you’d be picked up on the way back — the stop across the street is not for a bus taking you back to NYC! And those buses can come early and the driver won’t wait so beware!

Customer service was great and we love our couch. Our only complaint was that we couldn’t get ahold of the drivers until late afternoon. They were running late and didn’t call to let us know. They did a great job getting our couch through our narrow front door. Good job!

I have purchased both at the store and on the ebay site. Unfortunately it wound up being a bad experience. I purchased 4.4k dollars at the Annex and then another 2.5k on eBay the same weekend. The manager Jody could not have been nicer at the store. The delivery would have been free over 5k at the Annex and $ 125 otherwise. I requested that my orders be added together for a total of almost 7k for free delivery and I was told no by the ebay manager. Worse yet I was told that not only could I not get free shipping but I would have to pay $ 375 for a small desk and dresser to be delivered an hour away. Out of principle I refused. They claim ebay is a different place but it is clearly not as I saw all of the same items in the store at the same address. I am not sure why any business would treat a good customer that way. This is not the first review they have had like this and clearly they do not care. BE VERY CAREFUL with this store, my experience is there is some customer unfriendly policies at best and dishonest activity at worst!

Although there are several Design Within Reach studios closer to where I live, the Secaucus outlet is by far my favorite DWR studio. It sells both full priced new items as well as outlet items at low prices.
Many of the outlet items are arranged like they would in the studio, pairing great items together to help those less adept in interior designing (like myself) to visualize how the items may look together. The outlet stock is also refreshed several times an hour (great credit to the warehouse boys). You can spend an entire afternoon there looking through items as they keep bringing them out. Generous free parking in the front and back of the store is also very helpful. Once you’re done you can load up your new furniture easily, and the warehouse boys are always on hand to help you (remember to tip them for their extra hands!)
But the main reason why I love this store is its amazing staff. I visited it on July 2 and was attended to first by David, then by Tina. Tina was extremely helpful. As I was furnishing my home for the first time, I was quite clueless as to how some of the items I have would fit with some of the items I was looking at. Tina was very generous with her design advice, and was always helping me generate new ideas with various pieces, even items that I never considered previously. Tina was also especially kind in accompanying me as I browsed the store. As I was alone, it wasn’t easy inspecting the items. Tina never hesitated to give me a hand, helping me to turn heavy items around so I can have a closer look. And whenever I expressed interest in items not displayed on the floor, she would radio the warehouse boys to check if there were any behind.
I left the store many hours later with a lot more items than I had intended but I’m extremely pleased how they all fit so nicely and elegantly in my living room now! I have received numerous compliments from our guests and I would like to share them with Tina. Thank you so much Tina!

We loved the discounted furniture and ended up buying a couch, dining table and media console. at a very affordable price. After paying a flat rate for shipping to the city we were psyched to receive our beautiful furniture. We received amazing customer service from Kevin!
Thats where the good reviews end. We have waited a week and a half for our items to be delivered. Unfortunately, there was a mixup where the dining room leg was lost (it was supposed to have been replaced.)
I called and spoke to Stacy today. she fixed the mixup and we are expecting our furniture soon.

Great place to find high end furniture at reasonable prices. Often these items are heavily discounted with very little damage. Staff is very helpful and even request that we email them our «wish lists» in the even that our desired items come through their doors. New inventory at each visit! Very close to the city.

It seems like many of the reviewers who rank this place low (one star) are ordering on ebay. .. I wouldn’t do that. First of all, if the item is good — it’s selling in a day or a weekend at the annex. The good stuff is NEVER making it to ebay. Why would they bother photographing and planning shipping for the stuff they can sell right off the floor in days and have the customer leave with it? It’s the stuff that’s sitting that gets put on ebay — in that case, go and select and know what you’re getting.
This place is a huge warehouse and has a ton of defective and very damaged stuff — but it also had some nice pieces mixed in — just returns with minor damage or scuffs. If you find something like that, it’s probably only going to be 30% off, but if you find the thing you wanted, and you’re getting it 30% off, you’re ahead of the game. As the damage increases, the prices decrease. Interestlingly, I also found that some of the damaged pieces made me shy away from certain things (even at full price) because you can really see how cheaply made some of the stuff is! Especially when they have a sea of a specific item — all damaged. Overall though, there are some deals to be found. Like others have said, it’s hit or miss and you can call ahead and if you get someone nice on the phone they may tell you whether they have any of the thing you’re looking for. I have a very crafty friend and he’s bought more here than I have because he’s willing to attempt some repairs at home — so he’s gotten some great deals.

I don’t normally write reviews but I am so frustrated by their professionalism and level of customer service I had to share.
My husband and visited the store at the end of July and purchased a credenza and bed frame. The credenza had no scratches or dents but arrived with several on the front. The bed frame was missing a part so it was ordered on the same day and told it would take a month.
Upon receipt of the goods the damage was immediately reported to the sales associate, Meredith, who was leaving the job in a week. As I did not hear back I called the store the day before she was due to leave and she said she would sort it out. She called me late the next day (her last day) and promised a credit in the amount of the credenza to be used at the store. I asked her for it in writing but she said it was on my account and could be looked up in the system. I naively believed her.
So, a month later my husband calls chasing the part for the bed frame and is told it will take another month. He also asks about our credit and is told a different amount (way less) than what was promised.
Anyway, after speaking to the manager we come to a compromise that they will collect and try and fix the credenza. It’s September and its still here and not fixed. Every time I call to speak to Mandy, the manager, j have to remind her who I am and why I’m calling and she acts like its the first time she’s heard about it.
Lastly, they gave our credit card details to a thurs party without our permission. We found out when we received out monthly statements.
I would really avoid buying anything from here. It seems they get a lot of unhappy customers and the only way they are dealing with it is by avoiding us rather than helping us.

Hidden in a very industrial section of Secaucus New Jersey, I’m one of the few Manhattan islanders who has braved their way across the Hudson to explore one of the best kept secrets of interior designers in NYC. The DWR Outlet is really a hit or miss place in terms of inventory. However, I found 2 amazing chairs for about 90% off their retail price. Not bad right? At the same time most of the heavily discounted merchandise is beat up or broken. There is a good amount of all types of furniture anywhere from 30% — 50% of the retail price. If you are looking to pick up any made to order pieces there is a full show room as well. My advise, if you are serious about making some furniture purchases, the DWR Annex is well worth the trip.

Customer Service is atrocious!!!
Bought a $ 4000 chair AS IS but the workers wrapped it up damaging it more. Called corporate headquarters who referred it back to Meredith Maxwell, the manager who IS the problem. She spends the whole day on her cell phone or filing her nails. Very unprofessional. We’re headed to small claims court

When you pay prices as high as what DWR (and even the DWR outlet) charges, you expect to get an acceptable level of service and quality. Unfortunately, we had a terrible experience ordering from the DWR outlet. The listing on ebay for our coffee table did not mention any defects — when it arrived, there was a giant 2″ crack in one of the legs that had been glued back together and was missing a chip of wood, as well as a few dings and scratches in the table surface.
That was two months ago. I called the outlet as soon as the table arrived, and was assured that the matter would be resolved. We have been calling and emailing Anthony trying to get a replacement — he keeps on saying he will send it, but then we don’t hear back for a week at a time, and then he reassures us it is coming. Our next step will be to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. We are feeling majorly scammed and will not recommend this store to anyone.

Great deals and discounts to be found at the annex. Our sales representative Meredith continues to be helpful, by sending emails with photos of furniture we are looking for. I have furnished several rental apartments and thanks to her I always feel like I am getting the best deals and service.

Yes, I am biased because I work for DWR. But the Annex is a great source for furniture on the cheap (er than usual). It is hit or miss, but it is possible to get some real deals here, especially during the occasional warehouse sales. And if you have your eye on a specific item that’s not in their (scratch and dent, overstock, returns) inventory, make friends with one of the associates and they’ll call you if it comes in.
