Pleasant Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary

Kevin and the staff at Pleasant Hill made a difficult experience very pleasant. I cannot say enough nice things about the service our family received. Kevin was professional yet friendly. Most of all, he was flexible and that was very much appreciated. The grounds at the cemetery are beautiful and I know my parents will be well cared for at Pleasant Hill.

Nice place for a funeral. The people are lovely as are the grounds. The parking lot is a tad small, so it makes sense to carpool if you’re expecting a lot of people. Still, super lovely with the nearby rolling hills, farms, orchards, and tweeting birds.

This is a wonderful cemetery. My Grandfather, and Father are laid to rest here in the Veterans section of the park. The Chapel is a nice place, and can hold a good amount of people. I have a few gripes. The first being the cost of the plot, and service is rather high especially for Veterans.
I was astounded, and still am shocked that it cost myself, and my family $ 15,000 to lay my father to rest. It would have been more, but luckily the Military provided us a free head stone.
Secondly, my Grandfather’s was laid to rest here in 2005, and his headstone has shifted, and is very much not level now. I am going to contact the cemetery and ask them to adjust it. Depending on their response, and action, I will adjust my review accordingly.
In closing, I do enjoy the location of this park as it is close enough that my family can visit frequently. The park is a peaceful place to reflect on our loved ones who have moved on to heaven.

LOCATION
This is a popular location for burials in Sonoma County. Charles Schulz, the creator and illustrator of the Peanuts cartoon, is buried there.
Pros: It is located in a still rural part of Sebastopol, next to an elementary school and vineyards. From almost any burial or interment spot there are lovely views. The endowment ensures that the entire property is very well maintained.
Cons: To us, it looked a bit like a lawn and was very open and exposed (we didn’t think we’d want to visit the location and have a teary moment). Only flat, bronze gravemarkers are allowed, with the option to have a permanent bronze vase attached. The maintenance and manicuring was too much for our taste — fertilizer, lawn mowers — it could easily be converted to a golf course! But that is really just our own tastes — we saw many families looking very content. We just preferred a location that looked more natural. Green burials are not yet an option (plastic vaults are as bad if not worse than concrete vaults), and likely will not be due to the Park’s desire to have the ground surface remain even.
MORTUARY SERVICES
Pros: We worked with Kevin Doody, who was relatively down-​to-​earth and able to switch out of sales mode — more than can be said for many of the other mortuaries we contacted. He was easy to work with in getting documents, preparing our loved one for burial, etc. He worked well with the caretaker of the cemetary where we buried our loved on, as well as with the company that provided our sustainable casket. When we advised Kevin that we wanted a green burial, initially he said no, but then later came back with the proposal of a plastic vault. Although this was not a satisfactory solution (e.g. wood would be a more eco-​friendly choice if a vault is required), we appreciated that he looked for one.
Cons: There aren’t any from our experience. The casket was ready and in place, and we received all our official documents quickly.
I would recommend to anyone looking at mortuary services or burials sites to consider Pleasant Hills for either. But remember that you don’t have to accept all their services. We fared well having them help us prepare our loved one for burial, then burying him elsewhere.
