History
Established in 1978.
During the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, Leff Construction was actively involved in alternative energy systems and identifying economies in building systems. David and his father, Irwin, who had just retired from his law practice in San Francisco, built the first solar multifamily project in Sonoma County. Red Hill Planned Unit Development, a 44-unit townhouse community in Cotati, was an award winner in the California Affordable Housing Competition in June 1981.
In 1987, David and Irwin incorporated as Leff Construction and Development Corp. and continued to expand as developers and builders of small infill residential subdivisions. At the same time, they built and remodeled homes for local homeowners. Leff Construction began developing its unique approach to design-build and found that homeowners benefited from our early involvement. In our practice, as design ideas are explored their costs are considered — your budget and your vision are integral parts of the home design.
Meet the Business Owner
David L.
Business Owner
Dave lived in London until he was nine and his family moved to San Francisco. He attended Sonoma State University, graduating in 1976 with degrees in Psychology and English. He was on his way to law school when he decided to stay a little longer in Sebastopol and improve his carpentry skills.
In 1978 Dave formed Leff Construction as a sole proprietor. In 1987 his father joined him in the business. Over the years Dave has learned and applied many different building philosophies and methods including solar and sustainable building, historical renovation and infill real estate development. He is interested in alternative building approaches and has added the best of these into his design-build approach at Leff Construction.
Dave is a current and founding member of the board of Sebastopol Rebuilding Together. He also currently serves on the North Coast Building Exchange Board of Directors and heads up their Green Building Committee.
