Our services include pet sitting, daily visits, dog walking and overnight care. We care for dogs, cats, birds (even hummingbirds), bunnies, rats, guinea pigs, hamsters, fish, chickens, reptiles, horses, llamas, goats, sheep and an occasional cow/​steer.

History

Established in 1991.

In the 1990s, I started taking care of animals part time while still working full time. As fate would have it, I was able to purchase an existing pet care business at exactly the same time that the company I was working for was downsizing. So I took that leap of faith and opened Calico Susan’s Hug A Day Pet Care full time.

Susan and Patrick have taken care of our pets since we moved to Sonoma County, nearly 8 years ago. I am not certain how I found her originally, but boy were we fortunate in that regard. Over the years, Susan & Patrick have cared for a growing menagerie of cats (3 total), chickens (up to 9) and fish at our house. They are reliable and responsible, and nearly always available. The cats are clearly well cared for when we return; the chickens are happy and fed, as are the fish. We have, at times, had «special needs» for our pets — for example a kitty who has kidney disease, needing both subQ fluids and medication very regularly. When she was initially diagnosed I thought that we would never be able to travel again because there wouldn’t be anyone I could leave her with. Susan and Patrick were experienced with this medical issue and had complete confidence that they could care for her in our absence. Even our vet was surprised at the level of care that we could count on with Susan & Patrick. As a side note, I should mention that this kitty, who is a very picky eater and has the tendency to lose weight if not doted upon, actually gained weight while we were out of town due to the loving care of Susan & Patrick.
Susan & Patrick have come once a day, or at times twice, to our home while we were out of town. Susan provides regular updates via email or text message if I request them, so that I don’t worry about the pets while we are away. We return to happy pets and a watered garden! I can’t recommend them highly enough. Honestly, we trust them with some of the most important things in our lives — our pets!
