3.5 stars! Western Bakery & Dim Sum is a surprisingly decent dim sum place off MLK. We ordered the steamed BBQ pork buns, the fried shrimp and chive dumplings, and the egg custard tart. The BBQ pork buns were delicious, but these are, admittedly, hard to mess up. The fried shrimp and chive dumplings were also tasty. They were definitely a little bit more on the rustic side with big pieces of shrimp and chive in a rather large and misshapen yellow wrapper. The egg custard tart was not good, although I can’t quite put my finger on what was wrong with it. Too sweet? Not cooked enough? I’m not sure but I wouldn’t get this again. The place itself is a little run down. Not dirty, just old. If ambiance matters at all to you, get your dim sum to go. Western Bakery is located in a strip mall with a huge but horrible parking lot. Be careful when you enter, because cars WILL be coming at you from all directions. While you’re there, you might as well pop into Viet Wah Super Foods, which has an excellent selection of Asian groceries. The menu at Western Bakery is actually pretty extensive(see my pictures). Now that I know it’s legit, next time I’ll be a little bit more adventurous in my ordering…

This is completely based on comparison to the dim sum i have available in California and not the surrounding restaurants since i’m not a local. With that said: There was nothing more i wanted on a chilly day than some comforting dim sum. + My go to dishes are the har gow and shrimp rolled in rice paper — these were quite possibly the worst I’ve ever tasted. The filling was small and flavorless and the wrappers were too gelatinous, almost mushy + the xui mai and taro cake were pretty tasty! Much larger portions and thank goodness for that soy sauce & chilly paste + the saving grace for me was what they called a pan fried shrimp & chive dumpling — quite delicious + as i eyed the desserts while paying for the bill, they gave me a complimentary custard mochi and it was pretty darn yummy. As for the décor, its slightly not on the pleasing side and cannot hold a large party.

Nice little hole-in-the-wall! My uncle took me here and I was impressed with the food and price. The inside is crowded and small so I would suggest waiting till after peak hours. I liked everything that we ordered and they were fast with their service. One thing to keep in mind is that they don’t bring carts around for the dim sum, you have to order off of a checklist. Oh yeah they have awesome baked hum-bows here!

Really good, really cheap prices. Perfect place for a dim sum fix. I bought BBQ pork buns and they are much cheaper here than in Chinatown. A dinner to feed two was only $ 13 and included 5 different dim sum dishes. The place is relatively new, but is well worth a visit!

A small place that was an old Westernco Donut shop. It was remodeled into a fast food Chinese restaurant that sells dim sum and believe it or not still sells limited donuts. Lady owner is very friendly, she offered free tea while waiting for order to go. Tea is good Jasemine… Quality of dim sum is only so so. Some of the items are cooked to order because it is from frozen stock… Try their Spareribs with rice. Pretty tasty with black bean sauce and not too expensive.

a nice little neighborhood place for tea & snacks! there are many interesting«small plate» dishes to try here ~ many have photographs or are in the display case & the staff will be happy to describe the various choices … a handy checklist of items will be provided, so you can check off those that interest you! the quality was good, tho’ it might take a little long for everything to arrive, but the shop is a good place to relax & overlooks the sound transit line going to the airport(see planes headed there, too!) the crowded parking lot is shared by restaurant, grocery & other bakery delis (a great little flower shop, also, across the other end), but you can park on the cross-street, if you don’t mind strolling a block or two …
