History

Established in 2009.

After working in the professional picture framing industry for many years, I decided it was time to venture out on my own. I set up shop in West Seattle where I offer the highest quality products and professional services, as well as showcase the work of skilled local artists and craftsmen in the gallery. I am dedicated to providing the best customer experience and the best framing solutions, whether you are framing a single basic piece, or preserving and maintining an extensive, valuable collection.

I gave Courtney some tricky framing challenges: objects, original art, non-​traditional ideas, etc. She worked with me in the perfect way, letting me process my vision and supporting me every step of the way. I left over five pieces with her and crossed my fingers…

Courtney’s framed almost all of the art on our walls and she has consistently done a great job.
She has a wonderful eye for translating the spirit of the art into a complementary frame job — her style is never heavy-​handed. She enhances the art itself without distracting the eye.
My favorite piece she’s framed is a quirky print with a palette of red, gold, neon orange, black and white; she took the almost unnoticeable shapes in the print and subtly echoed them in the texture of the frame. She even hand-​wrapped the silk around the matte and hand-​gilded an inner matte — the details are just gorgeous.

A few years ago my grandmother gave me an awesome, framed woodblock print. During my last move the glass broke and I let it sit for about a year before I decided to fix it.
I know broken glass isn’t that crazy of an issue, but this picture is one of my favorite possessions so I wanted to make sure the repair was done correctly. I had heard about Wallflower on Unilocal and the West Seattle Blog, and I had also passed it many times while dining at Fresh Bistro. It sounded like this was my place.
I went in after having brunch one day and showed Courtney my picture. I had built it up in my head that this was going to be super expensive (clearly I know nothing about framing). I showed her the picture and she quoted me $ 30 for regular glass and $ 55 for UV glass. I went for the UV since I love this picture (did I mention that?) and prepaid.
Courtney called me a week later and I picked up my picture. Perfect! I’m glad to be able to hang it in my living room again. I would absolutely come here again if I had any framing needs.

I first came to Wallflower because I bought a Groupon. I was so excited by Courtney’s work that I’ve since gone back and will keep going back. I took some of my most treasured folk art items. I’d framed a few of them years ago at a chain framing store but realized the frames really didn’t show off the art. Courtney brings an artist’s eye to everything she does. I picked up an item today and it was so beautiful, it literally gave me goosebumps. I’m so excited about it.

Courtney has framed (or re-​framed) about a dozen pieces for me over the past two years. Some tiny. Some giant. And everything in between. She even did an old Navajo rug in a shadow box frame — a piece that was challenging for me to display previously — and it came out so great!
Custom framing is not cheap (and if you think it should be, I suggest you try Aaron Brothers), but if you really love your art pieces, photographs or want to preserve 3-​D heirloom items (like flags, bones, fabric, etc.) so that they’ll last well into the NEXT generation, this is the place to go. Courtney will treat your items with great care and make them look so fabulous, you’ll only wish you’d done it sooner.

Courtney has an amazing talent to find a frame you think you might not like and when it’s placed next to your print you can finally see her vision. I’ve had two things custom framed here and have let out a ahhhhhh wow! each time the framed print is shown to me. She is worth the drive from Seattle and also has affordable art on the walls that changes regularly from local artists. She’s patient as you try to decide between the red one, the blue one, no! The silver one! Perfect.

My sister had painted an oil picture for my mom which was only special because she had done it. When I saw the picture framed I could not believe it was the same picture. The texture of the frame added depth to the picture and the color brought out the hidden colors of the picture without taking away from it. It was expensive but now my Mom has a picture that really is art on the wall. Who would have figured my sister was so talented and who would have known a frame could add so much.
