Ventoux Roasters

You would never know that this cute little coffee shop is less than a mile from the hustle and bustle of University Village. The baristas are so polite, the drinks are exactly what you would hope they would be.
I just ate a giant chocolate chip cookie that I totally ruined my diet, but I just couldn’t help myself. Their pastries are calling to you from behind the glass display You can’t help but to surrender to them.
I love that people who are walking their dogs just come right in, order their drinks and their puppies act like regulars. The environment is friendly, laid back and unpretentious.
A hidden gem that most regulars definitely want to keep to themselves.

This is a place where you don’t want to share or get popular, but you just have to because you cringe when the reviews are that little.
The barista knows his stuff and is very passionate on coffee. The latte is pretty good. We should always pick a place that roast their own beans. One thing to note is that the coffee is not hot enough…
The interior design is pretty nice, love the bike and other biking gear that hang on the wall. The chairs made with coffee beans bag.

Nice, stylishly dour little café across of the cemetery that is clearly established to be solely focused on pleasing Java bean geeks. Pretentiously unpretentious. Dressed down. All about the coffee. Roasting on premises? I believe so.
Coffee snob I’m not. Coffee pedestrian novice I am. But I do know a good Americano. I’ve had theirs’ a dozen times and it disappoints. Always lacking in crema. Viscosity too thin. Does not take me anywhere close to Memories of Piemonte. The local Americano Gold standard being Hotwire in West SEA.
I’ll continue to frequent this café as it’s nice and I like the view of the grave site.

A neighborhood gem! Great place for a quick pick-​me-​up on a meet with a friend or run all the errands kinda day. I’m a fan of their cappuccinos, which are always consistently smooth and balanced. Ventoux’s intimate, humble vibe truly sets it apart from all the cafes out there. Their coffee beans are roasted on-​site and the café interiors are filled with bike décor, magazines, and various coffee gadgets. There’s a real feel of dedication to the craft of caffeine here. I’m also always pleasantly surprised by the range of clientele that come through Ventoux: parents reading to their toddlers, pre-​teens catching up after school, old couples chatting over some newspapers, and a few laptop work-​nuts like me. If you’re looking for a relaxed, homey spot for your next cup of Joe, I highly recommend Ventoux!

Best espresso I’ve had in Seattle so far! Really cozy, chill place, and in an underserved area. Service was very personal and actually listened when I talked with them. Will definitely be returning and recommending.

There are enough reviews about this shop’s fantastic, rich, smooth espresso & beans — I would like to focus on the aesthetic awesomeness that is showcased here. From the tables to the seating to the «Le Tour» decorations, this place seems to further enhance that fine choice of drink — be it drip or espresso. Wood benches, while stylistically pleasing to the eye, are substantial enough where there is enough support for you to sit and work for hours without any wincing of back pain. The chairs opposite the bench, too provide the same satisfactory support. For more aesthetic beauty, various Le Tour de France relics — from bike frames to bike shirts — line the walls of the coffee shop, providing a great ambiance. The place is primed to make your next visit an all around great experience.
Also to note is that there always appears to be seating. Definitely a place you ought to try.

Best espresso I’ve had in months, maybe years.
They know what they’re doing here and take it seriously. Otherwise the café is a bit cluttered and casual, and a recent visit had a ratio of 1:1 children to adults inside. It seems like there would be more kid appropriate places for parents to go than here, but fortunately no one was tantruming.

3 reasons why I’m giving Ventoux (Vahn-​too) five stars:
1. I ordered a shot of espresso, and the sole barista (was it Matt Ehresman himself, one of the co-​owners?) mentioned that the beans were from Costa Rica when he gave it to me. First time ever that a barista has given information about their coffee before I actually asked them. A clear sign of coffee passion merged with friendly customer service.
(1.5. Something else that I just remembered: The barista smelled the espresso before serving it, to probably make sure that he was serving a high-​quality shot.)
2. The actual espresso was great. No sourness at all, which can indicate a poorly pulled shot.
3. Awesome aesthetics and vibe. There was shelf full of various coffee-​related and news magazines available for reading (e.g. Roast, The New Yorker), and bikes hanging on the wall.
Ventoux has definitely earned a place on my list of favorite coffee places.

Cool, quaint, off-​the-​beaten path spot where the people are serious about coffee. They are closed on Tuesdays to use the small spot to roast their own beans, which I imagine they source by direct contact with farmers. I met one of the owners, and he was friendly and genuine. He made a tasty and memorable short latte for me and commented on one of the magazines I was glancing through on their rack – a mag for roasters and their world’s growing complexity of sourcing directly and doing so responsibly while being profitable and reasonable on the end we see and taste. He said the mag was a «really good one.» If I lived closer, I’d definitely visit them at least weekly. I love learning about coffee praxis and working with the tedious art, and hearing wisdom from the people in the small business world taking a risk on being profitable with this art is, well, just really fun.

I was in the neighborhood and craving an iced mocha today when I stumbled upon a cool little coffee shop with nice vintage cycling décor. As for the coffee, I had an iced mocha. My mocha was nice and creamy, however it lacked a little something. I’m not sure what, but I like a little stronger coffee flavor and this was slightly tame on my tastebuds, yet still satisfying. There are a couple seats out front in the shade which are nice to sit in and watch the world. I may be back…

Ventoux Roasters is my new favorite coffee shop in Seattle. I ordered a latte and a cheddar and ham scone (something I don’t normally like) and I was in heaven. The latte was perfectly brewed with just the right amount of foam. The scone was exceptional, they give it to you cold but I suggest (and so did they) that you put it in the microwave for 25 – 30 seconds. I promise the scone was worth an extra 30 seconds. Upon my first bite I could taste the perfect mix of moist, buttery cheddar and ham. Even better than the coffee and the food is the staff. Carlos is an exceptional human and it shines through with his warm and inviting customer service! I will definitely be back.

Easily the most consistently delicious drip I’ve had in Seattle. I’m a man of simple expectations. Black coffee. Drip. Hot. No interest in the Bougie shenanigans that reigns around these parts. Just drip coffee. Hot.
The 12 oz. drip here is 2.20 (taxes included + refill). Which is on the high end of the chill price range (1.50−2.25 as I see it). But without exception it is always delicious. Truly.
They roast the beans directly behind the counter. Which I guess makes a difference.
Somehow these guys have cracked the code on taking coffee seriously without any need to engage in weird didactic overshares or condescending coffee policing.
With a very chill bar at the window facing out onto a sunny cemetery (lovely trees and vista + everybody is secretly put at ease by sunny graves), makes for a pleasant vibe to do stuff or talk to people or whatever.
The space works out such that there is talking (not some silent coffee place like Broadcast in Roosevelt where everyone in there are dead silent laptop foot soldiers of lite-​capitalism) but doesn’t produce a distracting din.
Porch-​like chairs out front are real chill too and are properly shaded.
Finally, the real charm here are the owners, Matt and Carlos. Kind, relaxed, into biking (again, without being weird and elitist about it). They’re doing the roasting, the owning, the brewing, the whole bit. Real chill, real chill.

This place is legit at pulling a good shot. So happy it’s just a couple blocks walk from my house! Space is light and bright and has a great vibe. Will be back!

Small, quaint and perfect in nearly every way. In-​house roasted beans yielding a gorgeous shot of espresso with a smooth, creamy crema. Simultaneously intimate, yet with a relaxed atmosphere to provoke productivity or quiet reflection on a weekend.
The decoration was a mix of local art (hooray!) and the owners clear passion for cycling. If I knew more about bicycles, I’m sure the barista/​roaster/​owner would have been more than willing to chat about his two-​wheeled passion.
Alas, I was stuck drinking a gorgeous shot in a great café. The wifi was free, but a little spotty at times!

What can I say? Love our neighborhood coffee shop!

In town visiting my in-​laws and heard about this place from my FIL. It’s AMAZING! Delicious coffee, cool atmosphere, and super friendly owner/​roaster.
My hubby’s latte was nice and smooth; I had the Rwanda drip which was nice and light and converted me from my typical Ethiopia.
We will def be frequenting this place whenever we are in town. Don’t miss it!

If you’re in the neighborhood, this café is tough to beat. The coffee is smooth and not too acidic. The place is usually staffed by just two people who spend most of the time behind the bar. Perfect vibes for your weekend morning coffee. They have a wall full of framed art for sale as well.
My lone criticism is that it’s fairly apparent they need to wipe the tables down more often, but it’s nothing that won’t keep me from coming back for more!

Came across this small and quaint coffeehouse due to the reviews on line. Finished shopping at University Village and needed a caffeine jolt to carry us through the rest of the day. Walked inside and ordered our latte. As we were having our nectar from the God’s made for us, I inquired about the different coffee bean options that they had available. I mentioned my preferences (medium to bold roast with a smooth finish). He guided me to two options (one of which was being used for our latte). He gave me the comparison between the two and recommended that I enjoy the latte first and choose afterwards.
I even spoke briefly with the gentleman roasting the beans and could have asked him more questions (which he seemed to be happy to explain the process of his roasting small batches, etc) as I find these places fascinating to find.
Punch card already set up. Definitely going back when we are in the neighborhood. A hidden gem.

OK, these five stars represent the following here at Ventoux.
The coffee. deliciously roasted right behind the staff in the back and transformed into delicious coffee drinks for us customers up in the front.
The passion, the people behind the counter… are they real??? They are two of the NICEST most genuine guys I think I have ever met. They are co owners and they both treat the store like a couple of proud parents.
They make some real cool foam art! They grace all the lattes, even the hemp milk ones! I love that they carry hemp milk as an option for those with dairy and tree nut issues but think rice milk is nasty tasting. :)
They have some baked goods and are currently in the works to get even more from local companies. One day, they may start serving sandwiches but they don’t have a kitchen so that’ll be that.
The décor of Ventoux is cute, cheerful, clean and currently has some rad prints up by a fellow Bryant school mom. The store is inviting to all walks of life, babies, teens, adults and even the dogs get treats and water and rubs out front.
Like I told the owners, many others and now you, I so appreciate them choosing this fairly quiet neighborhood and adding some pizzazz to it.

Saw Rachel H’s post and the write up in Eater Seattle, so figured this a great way for this early riser to start my weekend by visiting the joining of forces, Ventoux Roasters and Hart Coffee Company over in my former neighborhood of Ravenna-​Bryant. Besides with today’s UW-​Berkeley game is away, I-​5 South was wide open!

I stopped in earlier this morning around 8:30-ish on 10÷11÷14 and there was already a line and people seated in this tiny indie café and roastery. Extremely good sign.
I had a 12 ounce mocha ($ 4.25) — nice coffee art, tasted great and not cloying
That’s the biggest volume available, but all coffee drinks are made with two shots.
No stamp cards available, but they’re still working out the logistics on tracking customers purchases.
Plus I ate a High 5 Pie Apple Flipside (=hand held apple turnover, $ 4.50)

Two Ginger Molasses Cookies ($ 2.00 each) I kindly received a 2 for 1 because for some reason they were split in two. Cookies looked Macrina Bakery-​like. Husband’s later assessment back at home was ‘Mmm, wonderful, chewy texture’
Kiddo’s added assessment was ‘om nom nom’.
Also beyond High 5 Pie, Macrina baked goods, there’s also nicely arranged doughnuts from Mighty-​O over in Tangletown/​Green Lake.
Final item purchased was a package of intoxicatingly fragrant, onsite roasted Ethiopian Yirga Cheffe Aricha coffee beans ($ 14.00) These were just roasted on 10÷9÷14. There were other varieties available, but I love a strong Ethiopian roast.
Total cost for everything with tax and tip was just under $ 30.
The café’s interior is eye-​catching from the pendant lights, bicycle hanging from the ceiling, enticing pastry case, cycling gears adorning the cabinetry, the coffee bean bags used as durable seat covers, antique sewing machine stand used as a table, and a brightly colored library card catalog also used for storage.
Like the roasted coffee beans I mentioned, there’s also coffee accessories and other accoutrements for purchase. The roasting apparatus is also visible (similar to Capitol Hill’s Caffe Vita, Greenwood’s Diva, and Phinney Ridge’s Herkimer) which is pretty cool. From the Eater Seattle’s article — there will be future cupping events to help with the coffee education. Nice touch there!

I enjoyed talking with both owners who exuded genuine warmth and enthusiasm. Kudos to them where they get to relish in the end result of all that hard work joining forces and completing the build out.
Judging from the volume of foot traffic in the 25 minutes I was there, this is clearly a well-​received and welcomed addition to the Ravenna-​Bryant neighborhood. Today was only Day 3 in operation.
If you want to avoid the multitude of Starbucks and the crowded ‘study hall’ at Zoka in the University Village area, head up hill to 35^th/​55^th, use Mioposto as a landmark, then look west a few businesses over and note the brightly red Adirondack-​styled chairs out front.
