Value Village

This is by far the cleanest, most well-​organized thrift store in the Ballard area. Goodwill pales in comparison, though the prices may be a bit steeper. I regularly find Nordstrom clothing here, along with many other items in excellent or new condition. It’s a great place for a bargain hunt! I’m frequently surprised by a great find. And I know this is a small thing, but I really love the hand carts that you can wheel around. So much better than full size carts that block aisles or hand carts that you can only carry.

When I first moved to Seattle, I didn’t want to spend money on work clothes and jackets that I knew were going to be super expensive. My cousin suggested I check this place out and I loved it! I seriously didn’t expect to find as much stuff as I did.
I found shoes, jackets, blazers, dress shirts, dresses ect. They were all in great condition at super low prices! I once found an awesome blazer for $ 2.18! And it’s in awesome condition!
I love this place, it’s truly worth coming to!

i usually do not go to thrift stores. but this place is absolutely fantastic… i could not get over the merchandise and the book section is enough for any book lover like me. The prices are just so good and the workers are the nicest and they really helped this olde goat. I am going to give this 10 hats and i am determined to come back as least once a week and get some of those books. Thanks Value Village.

I had one of the best shopping days of my life since having moved to this area of the country. Had to exchange some items, all very complicated, however, the good workers there made it possible for me to complete the complicated exchanges, did not complain, and I even got a good discount! Very cool. I go there about once a week and am always satisfied with my purchases. Good time, good workers, (knowledgeable workers to boot), not too smelly, too crowded, just a good experience. I do like Ruth! You do a great job describing items to me and that accounts for a good time. Thanks!

A thrift shop that I can’t afford to shop at.
It’s incredibly frustrating to go to a thrift store and not be able to afford anything in the store that I want. I used to come here for movies and games, but I don’t think I’ll be able to anymore, things seem to be geared toward selling to the rich and donating to the poor, rather than making things affordable for everyone and it’s a shame.
And since a lot of things they’re selling at retail prices are used and untested and without warranty, caveat emptor.
The staff is nice enough though.

Asked if I could get a lower price after being told by an employee doesn’t hurt to ask. They wouldn’t budge a cent and just glanced at the item in all of 2 seconds and came a decision. Clearly not the place to get a deal only all their ratty looking clothing is priced moderately fine. But their nice stuff is priced high. Looked it up after buying it at home and I could have just got it new at the outlet. Meh, I’ve experienced better sums it up.
Don’t donate your stuff here take it elsewhere. This place just wants a ton of money and they don’t want to give deals on nice stuff. Which is kinda the point of a thrift store, in that case with their attitude you mine as well just go to the actual store that sells the clothing cause it’d be the same experience.

I’m not a huge thrift shopper. I usually just come by to donate my clothes or books. However, on one occasion, I needed to find some 20’s inspired clothing for a work party. And, because I’m a procrastinator I went looking the day of the event. I went in not expecting to find anything, as it was the beginning of December and I assumed everything would have been picked over from Halloween. I was pleasantly surprised and found a dress, shoes, hat and feather scarf thing. Whole outfit for $ 30. Fantastic!
The store itself is bright, well organized and doesn’t have that strong thrift shop smell. I know you know what I mean. There book selection is small, but I did find a few books, too. Their books are a little more expensive than Good will, but not by much.

This location is pretty decent sized. They have a rather large furniture section. The quality could be better or maybe I just get there too late. The racks are not too close together and the shoppers have not been annoying or overly aggressive. The Goodwill return policy has changed which I am not too happy with. They will no longer give cash refunds.

Staff is usually helpful. Selection is decent unless you go to an out of Seattle vicinity location where the selection tends to be awesome!

I was visiting from San Francisco, and I had to get my thrifting fix on before going back home. Value Village is the California equivalent of Savers. And like its California cousin, Value Village didn’t disappoint.
I came in on MLKJ day, and everything was 50% off. I only left with one vintage skirt, but that was fine with me.
The store was clean and tidy. I saw many staff members hanging items up, and all of them smiled or greeted me when they first saw me. Awesome!
Unlike some stores on sales days, this thrift store had a cashier at every register. If it wasn’t for the lady WRITING A $ 6 CHECK, I could have been out suuuuuper quick!

Thrift shopping has kinda been a way of life since I was little. Now that I’m all grown up and can pick out clothes all on my own, I still love browsing the racks to find amazing deals on nearly pristine clothes.
Value Village has been a standby, but I’ve only been to this location twice. I have to say, I’m impressed by the selection and quality offered. My sister found a great pair of shorts and a lovely maxi dress for her upcoming trip to Hawaii. I found an adorable halter top, and stopped myself there. lol
I’m taking off one star for the higher prices at this location than at other thrift stores, but I’d still recommend it.

I’ve been a thrift store shopper forever. The point of thrift store shopping is good items at an amazing price. The point is not to pay retail prices for used goods… which seems to be what the new philosophy is with whoever has been doing the pricing.
I’ve tolerated it because there is still the occasional deal, and much more variety than regular retail. But I went for one of their gift bag jewelry jars. I talked with the sales girl and told her exactly what the jar was for – two girls one 2.5 and the other 4 years old. She assured me that everything in the jars was wearable and safe. I dropped my $ 13 dollars and went home.
Luckily I opened the jar before gift wrapping. EVERYTHING was broken except a mardi gras necklace and a rusty pocket knife (!!!).
I’m going to repeat myself. Despite the assurances of the employee – Everything Was Broken except a plastic necklace that MIGHT cost $.05 and a rusty pocket knife. I can’t believe this!
I’ve HAD it with value village.

I found two items without a price, and the cashier would not sell them to me saying that they would price it and put it out the next day??? I already dislike value village for being run down and usually containing product prices above retail! But now I will never set foot in another again!

I came here from Olympia, and this location was seriously twice the size of my store.
I saw a huge variety of items, from name brands to cast off from WalMart. I think it really help to go here with an open mind and just peruse the racks. You never know what you’ll find.
The staff here were really friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely be back again when I’m in Seattle.

It took me a very long time to be comfortable thrift shopping. As a person of the jewish persuasion, this seems silly, but I grew up around people who had no trouble paying full price for everything so I think I developed a distrust for the inexpensive. I’m on the road to recovery and Value Village is one of the reasons. There are still certain things I’ll never buy used — namely things I eat with/​off of — but when it comes to clothing and shoes and strange odds and ends, I get it. It’s almost more dangerous to shop here then at a place like Nordstrom because at least when you’re suffering constant sticker shock you don’t run the risk of buying 50 different things…
I suddenly feel like shopping.

Value Village is a chain of thrift stores in the Seattle area. I was in awe when I first stepped in because this location is huge. It is like a mini-​Walmart but for thrift items.
There’s a mixture of items here but the majority of items would be clothing. I really liked the used book section. The books were priced $ 1-​$ 5, at least from what I have seen. Extremely cheap and fun to peruse. I purchased a fiction novel for like $ 2.
I was a little disappointed by the clothing selection. There is a ton of clothing no doubt but most of the clothing seemed a little ratty/​worn out. Popular brands I saw were Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Old Navy, Target brands, American Eagle, etc. Since a lot of the clothing was in fair condition, you would be better off buying the items new at a store. And if you are like me and would like «nicer» items, this is not the thrift store to shop at. Prices here are fairly cheap, although to me a $ 6.00 ratty shirt is not that good of a deal.
I’ll try to come back more often since this Value Village was close to a bus stop.

Great selection of: furniture, children’s clothes, and books.
Average selection of women’s tops and sweaters and bottoms.
Barely exists: shoes and purses.
**If you need baby clothes this is the best store for them. I’ve been to a few Value Village locations and this one has the best selection and quantity in the area.
I walked away with a few cocktail dresses (BCBG; Nicole Miller), new pants for work (Calvin Klein), and some random shirts that I found for only $ 50.
Parking wasn’t bad but I was here on a Sunday afternoon and I didn’t wait in line to checkout and was served by a friendly cashier.

This Value Village is great in terms of location, quality of goods, and quantity of goods. However, in terms of customer service, this place disappointed.
I’ve been to this Value Village several times and have had a handful of encounters with snarky staff (sure, I get it, you work at a thrift store, but don’t have an attitude with customers because you hate your job). Some experiences I’ve had:
1. Long waits for managers to come up to the front/​cashier when called by an associate. The cashier would have to call them on the intercom a few times before they finally would show up.
2. Inconsistencies in policy. One time, I wanted to buy a vintage teacup for my sister’s bridal shower. There wasn’t a price on it, so they priced it at the cash register. However, yesterday I wanted to buy a pair of boots for Halloween and there also wasn’t a sticker. So I brought up another pair of boots that were similar that had a price sticker. I was guessing they’d be $ 8, given the other pair of boots that were similar. The cashier said, «sorry, our policy is that if an item isn’t priced or if a sticker has been peeled off, we need to price it overnight and put it back on the shelf tomorrow. So the earliest you could buy them is tomorrow.» I said, «Hmm, I can’t come back here tomorrow. Can I possibly talk to your manager?» She said, «Sure, but I know what she’s gonna say.» When the manager finally arrived to the front, she said the same thing, that they couldn’t price items on the spot and that I had to wait overnight. Are you kidding me? I’ve been to many a store, second hand or not, and have never had to wait to purchase an item because a price sticker was removed. They simply manually enter in a price, or scan the barcode off another comparable item.
*EDIT: I went back to Value Village yesterday and guess what – they had the boots on the shelf WITHOUT A PRICE. You know what I did? I found a sticker on another pair of boots and put it on them. No shame. You do what you gotta do.
3. Inconsistencies in price. I had purchased dozens of teacups from the Value Village in South Center, all between $ 0.99 and $ 4.00. When I wanted to buy an unpriced teacup at this location, the cashier thought about it and said, «This one will be $ 15.99.» For a teacup. Vintage or not, that is ridiculous, especially considering the ones at a different location were sold for cheaper.
Man, what a pain. I don’t care if it’s Value Village or Barney’s. Policies should be consistent and the customer should always be right.

I’ve been going to this Value Village since before they moved into the old QFC. I love the 50% tag discounts and $ 1 Mondays. The staff has always been friendly. The nice thing about the space is it doesn’t have that terrible «thrift store» smell that other stores are prone to having. I love the new dressing rooms but get a frowny face from customers that cannot follow the garment limit.
Value Village is the BEST place to go for Halloween shopping (which is what I was doing there last week). Their costume section is better organized than I’ve ever seen with new costumes, old costumes, and other Halloween do dads.
