I haven’t been here since the re-naming and renovations, but I am happy I decided to stop by for lunch. Walking in, I was impressed by the cleanliness and orderliness of the restaurant. The portions of food were very fair for the price, and the food was prepared relatively fast, especially considering how busy it was when I visited. There’s a corner of the shop with plenty of bottles of sauces including teriyaki and sriracha as well as complimentary hot tea. The staff will run the food to your table but you need to get your own water, utensils, and napkins. You bus your own tables as well. Overall, great price for delicious food. Would definitely come back again!

Why do I set myself up for disappointment? I went there to get fried rice. I ordered the combo fried rice with shrimp. I was shocked that the cost was $ 12.00. I thought this better be good. well when I got back to work I open the box and only found 2 small pieces of shrimp. I looked through the whole box and yep that was it. Really? And it was also super bland. I had to put a bunch of soy sauce and salt to get it close to having any flavor. I guess I won’t be ordering from this place again. I might as well get on the train and go to China town for some fried rice.

The food is pretty cheap and you get a lot of it as well. I know they’ve had some issues in the past as far as food inspections but I haven’t heard anything about this within the last year. I also really enjoy the rebranding from University Teriyaki to University Kitchen. I would recommend the chicken fried rice, that’s always what I get.

Last time I was here was at least a few years ago when it was still known as University Teriyaki. Decent place for teriyaki walking distance to campus.

Don’t let the 3-star rating fool you — this is a perfectly solid place to eat on the Ave. In its previous incarnation as University Teryiaki, it was known for its questionable sanitary practices as much as its large, cheap plates of Asian fast food. Despite UT getting shut down by the health department somewhat regularly, I ate there just as regularly and never had an incident, but I recognize that I’m braver than many. Well, after a name change, a polishing-up of the interior and a slight menu revamp, UT is now University Kitchen, and I like it even more. The menu is lengthy and varied, from trusty teriyaki plates to fresh sushi rolls(haven’t ventured down that road yet, though) to Korean classics like tofu soup and bibimbap. The prices are still low, and the plates are still the size of your head. They did seem to step up their culinary game, with the teriyaki using better cuts of meat and the bulgogi going from a plain pile of pork to a sizzling skillet of thinly sliced meat, generously sauced and mixed with onions and bell peppers. I even received banchan once! The joint is still very much no-frills — counter service, bus your own table-style. Still, the food is cheap and plentiful, and the staff and management seem to have stepped up their game when it comes to cleanliness and quality, so I feel better about eating here — not that I ever felt all that bad about it in the first place.

I was a regular here for two years but the summer of ’15 something changed. The chicken is very fatty now, and although the portions are suitable for the price, the yakisoba is much too oily and the vegetables are soggy by the time you get halfway through your meal. I have found similar restaurants on the ave that are much better.

If you think this place is under new management, think again. The roaches in my food tasted the same as the roaches in the past. Not quality roaches but it doesn’t matter since the traffic is high.

Love this place! Food is yummy and cheap. I usually have their soondubu or a roll depending on my mood and I haven’t been disappointed. I gave it a extra star to make it a 5 because the staff has been so friendly.
